RU Quarterbacks and the Spread

Given Ash's desire to start mixing in the spread offense (assuming it won't come right away as the offensive skills are more suited to the pro style), does Gio Rescigno emerge as an early winner? How do you think his offensive vision would suit Russo, Dare, Rettig, or Laviano?

Do you even know what spread means?

Don't let the word spread scare you, Brain Kelly used to kill us with his version of the spread, and his QBs were gunslinging statues.

A spread offense is not the same as a spread-option offense. Ash likely won't be running the spread-option.

Actually, my big concern wouldn't be whether the QB can handle the transition, but whether we have a good enough O-line and enough WR's and pass-catching TE's to run the spread.

Solid Ash Ketchum photo.

Wondering if he can get OSU's 8th-string QB to transfer to RU and run the spread properly ;)

The spread actually masks sub par offensive line play. Why do you think MAC teams run it? Because they can't recruit big time olinemen. This is why the spread can be effective against bigger stronger teams.

RIP traditional Pro Style offense for RU. Truthfully I don't care how many QBs let alone players we put into the NFL. I just want a college team that wins. If that means a bunch of players with no pro prospects beating a team of future 1st round NFL draftees I'm good with that. The idea that somehow we could recruit better players by claiming we were making them "NFL Ready" is waaay over rated. Kids want to win. They all already think they are NFL material anyway.

With increase in number of NFL teams running some kinda power spread with sprinkled option plays, we will put enough. Plus I expect us to become a power D program just like the Schiano era.
