RU - Robert Morris Lacrosse Game Thread

Pless with the nice defensive play and Tolliver with the rocket off the fast break. 9-5 RU

This last possession by RM at the end of the third kills this sport.

Offense anemic, O middie gets caught on D and makes a rather ill advised attempt at a steal. Not good.

Not-for-nothing, and maybe I'm wrong, but one thing "lacking" with this team the last few years, especially in games against unranked teams, seems to be a "killer instinct. When you've got a Robert Morris down 7-3 at half you've got to BLOW THEM THE **** OUT in the 3rd period. 'Nuff said!!!!

11-7 Final. RU sloppy but credit also to a pesky RMU team. Pless made some nice plays today among the others already mentioned.

That Mazzone is a good lacrosse player. Commented on him after fall scrimmages. Yes, like Pless.

Type of team you've got to put in their place early and keep them there. We let them come back to tie in the 1st, put them in a hole, then let them do the same thing again in the 2nd half. De-cleat a couple of kids early and put an end to the "peskiness" real quick!

We should have shot around 40%. Sloppy game but we got the win. When everyone starts to click we sure do have a lot of weapons. Even with shooting poorly we shot 33% on the day.

Couple of takeaways- we have a professional team. There is a lot of seniors playing huge roles. We have been at this for now 3 weeks. It's going to be a work in progress after losing AC. There is a glaring hole at that spot.

Good things- The D. They played together, caused a ton of turnovers, and didn't really get beat 1 v 1. I am impressed with their play.

Jules- he looked very much in control. Not sure I would have passed that last one and not just scored myself, but whatever. He played very well, and got his teammates involved. That's what your point guard does.

Mazzone- he looks faster and quicker than he ever has. His IQ has always been great, and the kid just makes plays.

Not great things that need work- Better off the ground. We cause a shit load of turnovers. We need to convert those to our possession and get our run game going triggered.

Face-offs. Jo Jo coming back will help a lot.

Half field O. We were very erratic. We looked good one minute, poor the next.

Finishing- we left a bunch of them out there.

3rd attack spot. I am not sure we will have this worked out until mid year, but I am not seeing who that person is yet.

Mullins- got to get him going. He didn't do too much today.

All in all, would have liked to see us score more, and that was because we didn't finish well. Still, we got the W, while clearly having a lot of room to grow. Just keep getting better each week and we will be fine.

They don't allow the hitting anymore. One of my son's played D1 D. He'd be in prison if he was playing now.

Heninburg did look under much better control. Not forcing things. Still, he misses AC who made him a real offensive threat.
