RU vs Elon 11/14/16

well, not real pretty. Kinda weird seeing all these strangers. Hopefully they will gel a bit.

This is unheard of. We were known as a power in women's basketball. I know we graduated some players but what has happened to our recruiting? I sure hope this season isn't a disaster.

Elon won 66-54 and now I have no right calling out anyone I think is bashing the team or coaches.
RU has to prove it deserves my backing before I start defending the program again .
That makes me sad, but can't defend without being able to point out something that makes my defense an honest one.

Honestly, 66-54 surprises me after the score I saw midway through the 3rd quarter.

This team obviously hasn't adjusted to losing Scaife. I don't know if they will.

Losing Tyler is a big blow but even without her RU should have won both games they played and not lost by double digits.
I could excuse the Chattanooga game loss if RU won this one.
Hopefully things will turn around so I can go to war with those I feel are unjustly knocking the team, instead of remain silent because I don't have a valid excuse to give.
Scaife's loss would be a reasonable one for RU losing to a lot of programs on the schedule, but Elon isn't one of them and Chattanooga probably isn't a good example either.

Our recruiting the past few years must have really sucked.
CVS has had a rough time recruiting during her recent short-term contracts. Yes, we were struggling even before that, but recruiting top players is difficult if your legendary coach might be on her way out. Athletes are always told to pick the school, not the coach. I love Rutgers, but how many players would pick us if they didn't know who the coach would be when they arrived on campus?

I haven't seen the team yet this year, so can't really comment on what is lacking, but regardless of short term contracts etc, I believe a Stringer coached player should, emphasis on should, be able to outplay an Elon player.
Madhat, for the wind to go out of your sails at this point is not a good sign for the upcoming B1G season.

We have not been the same since the fab 5 became the drab 2 .
We only lost 2 of the 5, but I agree that we've never been back at the level of the pre 2008 team.
I've always wondered how many of the 5 would have committed to RU if there had been no Imus incident.

Turtle , It is rare that something so good can turn into something so sour and be so impactful and essentially help to bring a program down. Those 5 recruits were supposed to be what made us a brand ..The Imus debacle should have been a blessing not a detriment.Sad indeed that CVIV may be remembered for only the last 5 years of what was a fabulous career.

I might be feeling down, but will always be thankful CVS was the RU WBB HC after she does retire.
No one can tell me that the RU WBB team would even been a winning program the last 5 years without her HOF credentials bringing in what recruits she could after they seen
the facilities and lack of financial support that's needed to make ( keep) a successful program.
I know there will be those who disagree with my opinion, but it is my opinion and they can have theirs.
This season looks to be the type that those opinions will be shared generously [winking]

Elon???? It's gonna be a longggggg year

Seton Hall is able to put a good team on the floor with its current coach. No fancy facilities there as far as I know. The women's team plays in Walsh Gym, which is charming, but hardly big time. That man can coach. I am tired of all of these excuses. A coach who gets paid as much as CViv does should be able to figure it out.

Good to see the excuses were ready for this one. This program has been surpassed by dozens and dozens - maybe 100's - of programs the past 5 years or so. She could have retired gracefully, before the complete breakdown of the program, but instead chose to stay and this can't sit well with her (whatever the reasons...). It just can't.

Stop with the excuses..this is a 6 win team...CVS needed to retire gracefully and Hobbs made a huge mistake giving her a new contract...the fanbase has been decimated...so sad

Someone asked - specifically - what happened to recruiting and DMD answered them. It is the issue that faces any coach, both one that is aging and also one who is facing the end of a contract (and questionable as to renewal). Also, earlier comments about the damage dating back to the Fab Five are accurate, IMHO.

It is not an excuse - had Vivian left the story would of course be different (better or not depending on who replaced her, obviously). The failure of the coaching staff to recruit better players has impacted the program severely. Fact - not excuse.

It's an excuse. Recruiting started to change because she refused to change her philosophy on O while the rest of the nation had started playing more exciting, up-tempo, high-scoring women's hoops. She finally did, however, it was too little to late at that point which the contract issue, yes, didn't help.

The contract Julie gave her was more than fair....4 years..I believe only 2 guaranteed. .incentive laden and given with the idea that CVS would make one last push which was not happening

I love the usual suspect comment that comes out as if winning doesnt matter when our coach makes so much

Most coaches retire gracefully before it gets to this point
