RU vs N'Western 02/10/16

I had to miss the game, but, wow, what a last sequence:

Coffey shot, blocked by Rachel
Kahleah rebound
Kahleah pass to Tyler
Tyler layup

It could only have been more perfect if Kahleah had passed to Briyona and Briyona got the assist.

Tyler's game winner against UTEP was very similar to Piph's against Duke. Tonight, she was more ahead of the field. And BTW, the Northwestern team looked absolutely stunned waking off the court.

did Tyler hit the shot vs UTEP in the NIT driving the length of the court?
Yes she did. Epiphanny Prince was at the RAC signing autographs pre game. I mentioned to her that my favorite RU moment was her length of the court drive to put us ahead against Duke in the Greensboro Regional in 2007 on the way to the Final Four. I told her that I thought of her and that Duke game when Tyler did the same against UTEP in El Paso to win the WNIT. She smiled!

It seemed like every time we went for a defensive rebound during the second half it either went out of bounds off a Rutgers player or else an over the back should have been called, so when Kahleah picked up the ball after Rachel's block on that final shot we were in business as it came at the right time. I am surprised NW attempted that shot so early and left enough on the clock for Rutgers. Looking at the positioning I felt that Rachel would block the shot or else get called for a foul. Great block, great pickup by Copper, great pass and nice Tyler lay-in.

Tyler and Kahleah hit big threes in the final couple of minutes, but Briyona's rebound, dribble out, turn around and hit the three to tie was what saved the game for us.

Our offense looked troublesome as we couldn't get inside. NW played great defense, I feel, and we were fortunate that Copper and Scaife were able to create their own shots. There was, however, a long fourth quarter stretch when all of our shots kept rimming out as if the basket had a lid on it.

That was nearly 2 years ago...
To quote myself : "I can't remember the last time she hit a game-winner."

LOL.

I just checked, by the way, and the WNIT final was the last time before last night that any RU player hit a game-winner - the team has won only one other game by 3 points or less since then, and that was last year's Nebraska game at the RAC, when it was only that close because of a last-ditch 3-pointer by the Cornhuskers.

Be happy with the win because there is such a small margin for error .Copper and Scaife scored 44 points which was just enough to win a nail biter.Every game is a must win as the NCAA Tournament selections gets closer .

I thought Rachel had that tip in at the buzzer against SMU, 2 years ago?

Interesting... I suppose that it's hard to hit a game-winner if the game isn't on the line. ;-)
