Unable to make the game, but listening on the radio. 25-22 at the half. How's it looking from the stands? Big Mark seems to think that we are getting fouled a lot underneath, but not getting calls.

I'm with Big Mark on that. In particular, the latest one on Rachel was baloney, as could be seen on replay. But of course, I'm not an official.

I've just got back to the house and see we won by 20. The last I looked on my phone, we were up by 3 at halftime, so I'm pleased to see that we pulled away from an inferior team. Copper and Scaife seemed to have taken charge in this game.

For anyone who was able to watch the game, what did we do in the 3rd and then 4th quarter to pull away, besides scoring more? Obviously we smothered their O with great defense which is always good. Did the officials start calling the game more fairly? What kind of D did Wisconsin put on us? A mix of man-to-man and zone? Just man-to-man? Just zone?

I'm just thrilled to see this bounce back win after a very tough loss against Iowa. Onward and upward.

Could not make the game tonight as I had a concert to attend for a friend so saw the same up by 3 at half. Congrats ladies for pulling away and taking care of business. Great job.

Great to see the team in a close one at the half pull away against a Sister Of The Poor. Now let's beat the Buckeyes please.

A P5 team is not a sister of the poor. Nice dig though.

Sisters of the poor in sports means a weak opponent.

Wisconsin's record since 2011

11/12 9-20 3-13
12/13 12-19 3-13
13/14 10-19 3-13
14/15 9-20 5-13
15/16 5-7 1-2

I thinks with this record they qualify

I guess you didn't enjoy the game. Geesssshhhh!
Even with the free tickets someone gave you. And it was $2 nacho night. I was there and the concession lines weren't very long! :grimace:

RU won , I'm happy.
If someone can't enjoy a win, they don't want to and that's their choice.
I won't put them down, but will point out that at least they acknowledged the win instead of ignoring it. Some posters refused to post after a win and only came on this board after a loss.

Who said I didn't enjoy?
Well since your first comment used the phrase "sisters of the poor" the assumption is that you weren't pleased. Did you get nachos?

And I found it interesting that you felt the need to look up Wisconsin's recent records to make your point.

Yeah..a 20pt win over a conference team is a good win. great rebound from the Iowa game. (damn..a couple of put backs and we'd really be sitting pretty)
but you can now only win what's in front of you. Go RU!

Rutgers should beat Wisconsin handily given the talent level. No reason that this game should ever be close. I knew Wisky was bad but didn't realize how bad they were. Now if you want to make a statement beat Ohio St. It's not all about beating lower level teams.

Thank you for your concern and, I hope you understand ,every RU WBB fan wants RU to win each and every game they play . Doesn't matter if it's against the good , the bad or the ugly. Winning is what's wanted and if it's a blowout even better.
Some might just like to enjoy a 20 point win , while understanding the opponent wasn't UConn.
Could be others don't know Wisconsin isn't in UConn's class and thought the Badgers are the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be class.
Glad to see someone willing to point out beating the Badgers by 20 isn't like beating UConn by 20.

Personally I think beating lower level B1G teams by 20 is a good sign, or at least better than squeaking out a 1 point victory over a so called lesser program.
Hopefully beating ( who some think are) lesser teams by 20 gives the RU WBB team more confidence in their abilities and coaching strategy, so when they face the better B1G teams the RU Women can come out of those games a winner.

For anyone who was able to watch the game, what did we do in the 3rd and then 4th quarter to pull away, besides scoring more

So Wisc played zone the entire game, even when Hernandez was in, which is when teams usually switch to woman-to-woman against RU. They did massively extend the zone when she was in, so the top of the zone was basically at the 3-point line, to take away her coming off screens. That opened up way more driving room in the center of the zone that our team did a bad job of taking advantage of.

Overall, we got pretty decent shots in the 1st quarter (which we barely scored in). It was just, nothing went in. Rachel missed some easy shots. Our guards missed some open jumpers. And there were a couple possessions where we couldn't get into our offense. But for the most part, we executed up until the part where we had to make shots.

Second half, two things happened. Canty started making shots and we started getting out in transition more off turnovers.

Jesse, thanks. I think teams are going to continue to mostly use a zone defense until we can show we can a) make more outside shots and b) get the ball to our high post player and down low and either drive to the basket or kick it out. What some don't realize is that even against a zone, there are soft spots just outside the lanes on both sides to drive the ball. What I think we need to do more of is exploit those spots in the zone instead of just passing the ball around the perimeter.

Also, under C. Viv we have always been able to exploit the other team's O by playing tough D and getting easy steals or blocks and then running in transition. Jesse, I'm glad to learn we did more of that in the second half. That's our MO and I think it helps us with the rest of our game. From what you said, we need to clean up the easy chippies inside. We seem to miss a lot of easy layups. In the game against Iowa, we missed at least 6 or 7 layups that could have been the difference in that game.

Again, thanks for filling me in.

Very good win against Wisky, I listened and it seemed like the team played well and the energy they showed at the start of the 2nd half to dispatch of the Lady Badgers was good to see. Nice to see a bunch of players contributing as we will need it coming up

For me the big test is Ohio State. Last year was ugly and this year they knocked off top dog Maryland. Very interested to see how close we can keep this. It would be a great sign for a close game. Not really expecting a win but its important to be competitive and not blown out
