Rumor: Rutgers vs. Princeton at the CURE Arena (Trenton)

Have no idea why game is in Trenton. Will attendance even exceed 4-5k on a Monday night ?
Hopefully there’s another P5 opponent match up to be announced as rumored.
The train ride from NB is like 30 min. It might even be easier to get to NJCure arena from NB then to the RAC by car with all the crazy traffic getting into Livingston during bball games.

The so-called “rivalry” is not a rivalry to Princeton. Let’s make it a home game by packing the arena.

In no way is it or will it be easier to get from NB to Trenton than from NB to Livi
The train is literally 30 minutes from downtown NB to Trenton train station. It took me 30 min from the traffic alone to get from route 18 to a parking spot at the RU/SHU game.

If Princeton isnt a tourney team next year which is the nost likely scenario it really does little for the resume
I don't think its a they aren't in the tournament kind of thing, if you are scheduling mid majors or Low majors make sure they are at the top of their respective conferences and not at the bottom.Y

How often do high majors play one off non-tournament neutral site games with ivy/low major teams? Is this not a rare thing or is it?

I could be wrong but I think Villanova plays St Joes and Temple every year. Not sure if they are home and home or played on neutral floor. WVU used to play Marshall in Charleston for sure. Not sure whether they do now.

This isn’t really a one off game in fairness. We’re probably trying to get on better footing so Princeton can be a regularly scheduled opponent like SHU. It isn’t quite as bad as going to UMass even if NET says it is. Good teams play local rivals in basketball. They don’t shy away from them.

You and I were two of the very few on selection sunday reminding posters that the entire season matters to the committee. Games in November count the same as games in February.

If you meant that no fans care, I think you are wrong. Princeton isn’t just any opponent. The game will generate a lot of interest and free publicity. This thread is a good example of it.

I dont really see the great interest which doesnt benefit Rutgers

I’ll be there as this is less than 10 min from my house. There’s big guarded parking lots surrounding the venue for those of you wishing to drive. Also it is close to major highways ( Rt1, 195, 295, and even the Tpike is 7 minutes away) Trenton Social is a hipster like bar right across the street but I’m not sure it will be open if they do decide on a Monday game. River line is also across the street if that helps anyone.

The more you think about the circumstances surrounding RU Princeton, how can we come to any other conclusion that 1) Pike would not have originated this based on bad blood 2) The State’s support of RU athletics is now calling in a favor for Trenton/Cure?

Nothing wrong with it, but does anyone have any REAL info on why this is going down the way it is?

I do. It was straight-forward agreement. No behind the scenes interference.

Can you talk about what changed? It was made very clear up until now Pike wanted nothing to do with that program. Can you talk about why he wanted a neutral site game in Trenton? These dynamics make any agreement not straight forward by nature. What’s the agreement details on tickets/gate?

sounds like it might be the start of trying to set up a yearly game and neither side wanted to start it off playing at the other's house.
Could be this game might be the first in a possible series between Rutgers and Princeton and could change into a home and home.

It’s not literally 30 minutes, it’s generally 35-40 other than 1-2 trains, after having to get to New Brunswick station a few minutes early to make sure you don’t miss the train, and followed by a 10 minute walk to the arena. You’re looking at close to an hour all in, and that’s with the assumption that a) the kids care about driving to Livi when they can just take a bus, or b) most of our adult fans live in New Brunswick.

The attendance will show you that it’s significantly easier to get to Livi.

Those who were repeatedly saying that Pike wouldn’t play PU were plain wrong.

I have to refrain from giving out the contract details on a public board.

Np just DM me the details

This was my completely uninformed take.
Not that anything changed - just that the prior “insider reports” were vastly exaggerated saying “HC Pike will never play Princeton”.

Just because it’s “reported” doesn’t make it true or accurate.
And even if it is “accurate” in that moment, doesn’t mean it’s accurate forever or even the next day.

That why personally I take all “insider reports” (both here and even professional sports) with minimal interest.

I ll be at the game. I just don’t understand the venue location. I guess it’s a 1 year deal. Would have preferred a 1:1 or 2:1 type of deal with these type of the games at the RAC and / or Jadwin.

Trenton has given the bball progeam and AD a lot of breaks, think it’s a little favor in return.

or could be just a site both programs agreed on for one game because they didn't want to play at the other's house.

Trenton makes zero sense. Also on a Monday night - wtf.

At least give me Boardwalk Hall on a weekend where you could make it a bit of an event and make it a fun weekend attraction.
This is the absolute gin scenario. Would be a massive hit

No, I’d suggest driving as it’s easier.
The River Line (light rail) station is across the street from the arena but only runs from the south (starts in Camden) along the Delaware. The “main” train station is at least a 15 minute walk away.

RU playing here is def a test run in case some of a future season 24/25 25/26? have to be played at a different venue due to renovation. That’s how business Of athletics works

You’re better off playing Syracuse, Ole Miss, or LSU and beating them (120s-150s in the NET) perception wise than having to struggle with a sharp shooting sweet 16 team that will be embarrassing to lose to. Just not a good idea at all

I don’t want to lose this game but a close loss to them on a neutral floor wouldn’t be that big of a deal. If your on the bubble, having a loss to a bad ACC team is probably worse if your competing for spots with other ACC teams.

The more concerning thing is we no longer have an elite defense to carry us and we have to navigate 5 real OOC games early with a lot of frosh and sophomores and guys returning from injuries. Anything worse that 2-3 would put us in terrible position and that assumes we don’t get tripped by any of the cupcakes. Only 1 of those games at the RAC.
