Rutgers 2025 Football Schedule: Best & Worst Scenarios, Season Prediction

Should only lose 3 games. Ak47 will take another step in development and the passing game will be good to great..I have faith in the recruiting on the defensive side of the ball. Rob Smith defense works well with fast players. Alot of speed on the defensive side..

I am not sure on that

Aug 30 Ohio - Win
Sept 6 Miami University - Win
Sept 13 Norfolk State - Win
Sept 20 Iowa - 50/50
Sept 27 at Minnesota - Win

Oct 11 at Washington - 50/50
Oct 18 Oregon - Loss
Oct 25 at Purdue - Win
Nov 1 at Illinois - 50/50
Nov 8 Maryland - Win
Nov 15 OPEN DATE
Nov 22 at Ohio State - Loss
Nov 29 Penn State - Loss

I think we have 6 lean wins and 3 lean losses with 3 50/50 games. Even if we go 1-2 in 50/50 games we get to 7 wins.

I think we will be more explosive on offense and better up front on defense. The secondary on paper will take a step back, but this past year our secondary was so beat up it might be the same or even better.
I think we finally take down a name B1G team this year, and IMO it's Iowa at home. Very good chance it'll be a Friday night game and the annual Blackout game so the stadium will be rocking and that'll lead us to a W over the Hawkeyes. Imagine how rowdy the stadium will be vs Oregon if we somehow find ourselves at 6-0 after a cross country trip in Seattle.

7-5 at minimum. We have a seasoned QB, talented receivers and strong RB room. D-line improves and we got some DB's in the portal that help. The other 5 games , we should be competitive in most.

If we can be 6-0 going into the oregon game that would be a lot of momentum and coverage. That would be a night game with 2006 vibes.

Schiano's preference is to win close games based on limited risk-taking and taking care of the ball. Even the bend-but-not-break defense helps lead to close games. But that works both ways.. we are closer vs teams better than us, and teams worse than use get closer to beating us.

So, really, it is impossible to predict how many times we'll be unlucky.. with turnovers, injuries, and inferior teams getting inspired by hanging around and pulling one out.

6-6 is fair.

6-0 3-0 in conf- we are ranked. Let’s say the 22-23 range.
That will be a game that gets a lot of eyes on it…

That’s not a preference. It’s reality based on our less than optimal talent level. Schiano had zero issues airing the ball out vs Pitt in 2008, with Mike Teel throwing for over 300 yards to Britt, among others. Athan will need to do the same, if we are to defeat Iowa, Oregon, Or Penn State.

I see 6-6 at worst (get the firing squads ready if anything below this).

7-5/ 8-4 would be good.

9-3 with a NYD Bowl would be a great season.

Next year the passing game is going to be good even great some games. Dt Sheffield is fast AND skilled. Duff and strong are prototypical NFL receivers, Fletcher should take the next step. Ak47 looked better and better as the season went along and that should continue into next year...

The question is, can the passing game be great against better teams like Oregon Iowa, and Penn State. That is going to be key. Satisfied with our receiving talent but AK47 will be the constraint on how well we do. He wasn’t accurate enough vs USC and Kansas State which is why we lost those games. If he can throw closer to 60%, we’ll be going places.

Overall depth is significantly improved especially at LB.

why can't it be his preference based on what you said about limitations? When at his time here was that not the case? Those couple years with Rice and Britt and Brown and Teel? It is his preference.. the ball is the program.. why it is his preference NOW does not matter.

Ultimately his preference is to win, and that will determine his play selection. The ball is the program doesn’t mean you run the ball 50 times.
It means you protect the ball at all costs.

Preferences change based on talent level. This year, the most of the offensive talent is in the WR Corp. so imo, we will be more balanced, and may even be more passing centric on rare occasion.

Those couple of years with Brown, Teel and Britt, show he is willing to play to the team’s strengths.
This year, we’ll have Ian and KJ, who won a significant amount of 50/50 balls. WR Corp has more talent than RB Corp.

I think that the 2025 play selection will be similar to 2008 when required. We are going to have to throw downfield to beat Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa, because they are going to stop our rushing attack.

Linebacker play is back for the defense, along with an improved overall defense.
Running game is steady and an experienced QB makes the plays we need to win.
8-4 Record.

well, at least you have committed us to being a long ball pass-first offense and not some dink and dunk, may as well have been a handoff, conservative offense. I hope you are more right than wrong. But even if you are correct about that, it was still Schiano's "preference" to be ultra-conservative.

Before I drop this line of response consider how in Schiano's first bowl game with us Arizona State could not stop our pass-happy offense and we had a 7-point lead at the half. But in the second half we got too conservative and ended up losing.

I suspect a conservative O really is Schiano's preference. So, in terms of the main gist of this thread I expect close games because even with a big lead we will shut things down. Heck, while behind a couple scores, we have seen games against top teams where we run clock and run the ball just to keep the score close. We have seen 4 runs up the middle at teh goal line many times.. insisting his OL blow the DL off the LOS and score. C'mon.. it is his preference.
