Rutgers Approves Construction of Athletic Practice Facility. Cost $115M?

RUready- I hear you on being a top state for talent and being the only D1 vs other top states with mult D1. But, NY/NJ kids will always be savoy enough to look outside of our small box. And when comparing size/location vs just state, we have many top schools within the same radius as states like Texas, Cal, Fla etc
As for the RAC- area itself needs an very good facelift and more seats but let's keep this wonderful old school feel. Win some games, make fan experience better and give the players an amazing facility to workout...you will see an upward movement quickly.

We also have much higher salaries than Kentucky alumni.

The issue is that a successful
Basketball program is more important to Kentucky alumni than it is to Rutgers Alumni. If a good number of Rutgers alumni wanted a successful bb program and were willing to support to make that happen, we'd have a successful basketball program.
Al you're correct we have higher salaries but at the end of the day their (Kentuckians) dollar stretches much further than ours. I been to Kentucky twice for horses races and there's a profound difference in cost of living. A steak dinner for two (NY Strip & Ribeye), one glass of wine and one beer cost $32, a total of $38 with tip. In NJ that bill is $62 (includes tip). The number of retired New Jerseyans (mainly Police, Firemen, Government Employees) moving to Tennessee and Kentucky is reaching epidemic levels. Just kidding with you. But on a serious note there's a large contingency of northeastern retirees moving to both states.

Go ahead and laugh. You don't know who I know on this board, who I'm friends with or what mods I've tailgated with. Trust me...I'm far more popular on this board than you and you know it, so fall in line or you'll be gone.
Wow talk about threatening people like a real wanna be wise guy. I've said this to DJ Spanky who I believe is a moderator. To successfully moderate you must keep a certain degree of distance between yourself and those who post. Once you allow yourself to get too close to the mob you quickly become an enforcer for the mob. The Florida poster didn't say anything to warrant a threat and Bigmatt718 is advertising to the world that his connection to those who enforce the law can get anyone banned that doesn't fall into line. Amazing, truly amazing. I really hope John Otterstedt is reading this nonsense.

Can we please get the name of this restaurant? thx [cheers] Haven't seen anywhere with steak dinners under 25-30 plus $8 each for wine/beer...Still- the same point though, which is very true

It was in 2011 Lexington, KY on a Wednesday evening after an excruciating 9 hour drive. Please keep in mind that I was doing between 80-90 mph. If you're Big on doing the speed limit set aside 10.5hrs. I believe Animal Kingdom won the Detby that year. Don't know the Restaurant but it was on the campus or just off campus. Great deal for dinner. One more thing, I couldn't find a nicer group of kids; good manners, respectful and courteous. Not so much in Louisville.

Agreed. But the extended argument that the kind of corruption that is rampant in New Jersey is unique requires only a review of Enron and the California Power Authority or worse yet, the $5M purchase of Gov Gray Davis in 1998/99 in support of SB 400 which effectively cost the State of California $241B .... decades of near catastrophic fiscal burden.

But note that neither of those involved construction, the context in which Caliknight was speaking.

This is such a typical reaction from a Rutgers fan. A great thing met by b*tching and moaning. Pathetic.
Your inability to mentally separate the good (fundraising and facility build) from the bad (design) doesn't make me pathetic.
If all you have in response is another ad hominem attack, just don't bother. If you like the design good for you. I don't.

Blah, blah, blah.

Rutgers would never be able to build a facility like the Rock in Newark. Better to just play our games there and have discounted NJ Transit fares. I hate navigating the roads that were built for Camp Kilmer and parking when there are huge RAC crowds. Wrestling matches are the limit of my patience. I go to classes right across the street and even that is a PITA at some hours. I'd hop a train at Metro Park and enjoy a posh place like the Rock anytime. I wish they had boxing there like they do at Barclay Center. That's another place that got it right.

I lived in Lexington for 2 years. I once suggested that the public education system there didn't HAVE to be 48th in the nation and that with a moderate tax increase the state could move up to the middle of the pack at 24th, for instance. They locals invited me to move back to New Jersey. Maybe the culture has changed...or maybe they still just get drunked up and drive around and around on New Circle Road or Man o' War shooting out road signs.

No, I can't. Sorry. The RAC has served its purpose and I will have a lot of fond memories of going to games there (as I'm sure you will, too), but it's time to move on. We're in the Big Ten now.

You can scream it from the top of your lungs but that doesn't mean you're right. Sorry. You have your right to your opinion, but as an outsider, you don't hear the feed back that people "in the business" provide regarding the RAC. It is not a deterrent in any way. Leaving the RAC for a box arena in no way could be defined as a "big ten move".

I was talking the $62 with drinks and tip in NJ...

So @HeavenUniv. linked Long Horn steakhouse. At their location in Piscataway, a 14 ox Delmonico steak costs $24.49 (with choice of side and salad). A glass of Woodbridge cabernet sauvignon is another $6.99. That's a total of $31.48 before tax and tip. (To save money, you can go with the 8 oz flat iron steak for $10 less.)

At their location in Louisville KY Outer Loop, you pay $23.49 for the Delmonico steak and 6.49 for the wine. That's a total $1.50 cheaper than Piscataway.

An article on this I just read on NJ.com was somewhat dry, i.e. this part of the money comes from here, this part comes from there. And what do you find in the comments section? The usual "taxpayer money" garbage, shots at "crappy teams" and -- in a first -- shame on RWJ Barnabas for "taking money for patient care" for this.

I understand support for Rutgers is not widespread. We've been over the reasons for that forever. But the hostility is remarkable. And THAT, not the Ledger, is what Rutgers needs to PR its way out of.
Hostility, combined with ignorance, stupidity, and zombie-level obliviousness is resistant to even the most clever PR and logic. The Star Ledger has been throwing lit matches at these particular gasoline soaked mounds of garbage for years.

We got some real wanna be tough guys on this Board.
Ridiculous.. explain what was "tough guy" about bragging about being friends with the moderator. ru31trap is one of the more consistent negative "fans" on this board. And now you have the claim someone that doesn't like his or her posts is being an internet tough guy.. "boo hoo I'm being bullied". If anything, calling someone an "internet tough guy" is being an "internet tough guy".

I do have to agree with GOR on this one. Trap is an AH but always consistent. (I certainly couldn't see many enjoying a tailgate drink with him but you always know what his stance is going to be) Someone like GOR- I am sure he knows most of us find him to be an AH on the board too(but, I think he likes that Rep and planned it) but again, very consistent (though, I have a feeling, he would be a great guy to have a tailgate drink with). A couple of others, who I shall not name also have that rep(one a GREAT fan and Tailgater but I think old age has just made him crabby and another from the westcoast who is more of a pompous/racist AH)
But at least all are consistent. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

To see what we are up against at peer schools, Michigan is building a full facility, including stadium- for lacrosse only.

I guess one question before we try to match schools like that is: how close can lacrosse come to breaking even? It could be that lacrosse is the intercollegiate sport of the future as parents see lacrosse as safer than football.

I will say this...if my HS in South Jersey offered lax in the spring, I would've played it in a heartbeat. I hated baseball and lax is a combo of soccer, basketball and hockey. It would've been perfect to keep up with conditioning for football/basketball since I played both in HS.

TV REVENUE: I have no idea if Rutgers gets TV revenue for MLax or if we do, how much that is per year. Help anyone?

TOURNAMENT REVENUE: Also need help with how much we get in tournament revenue from either B1G or NCAA.

HOME GAME TICKET REVENUE: I think we get about 2,000 - 2500 fans x $10 per ticket = $25,000 per home game max x 7 home games = $175,000 per season max.

COSTS?

I think we get about 2,000 fans x $10 per ticket = $20,000 per home game.
Then factor in any concessions or merchandise purchased after that. I tailgate before the lax games so that doesn't really apply to me personally but not everyone tailgates.

At least Michigan and OSU have lacrosse. Nebraska built a new hockey arena, but only has club hockey and has no plans of it becoming a full sport. I think the money could have gone elsewhere.

I think someone on this board recommending Longhorn Steakhouse is a new low for the Rutgers community.

Was in Piitsburgh
My goal is to go to PNC Park for the Phils-Pirates series. Outside of San Fran, Pirates ballpark in Pittsburgh is my favorite in all of baseball.
I was in Pittsburgh for work and went to a game there. BY far one of the coolest stadiums to see a game. Great sight lines, fantastic feel, amazing location, comfortable layout, and easy in and out. Loved it.
