Rutgers Baseball vs. Iowa

Appreciate your perspective,Zap. Lord knows you’ve seen a thing or two in this game. RU had its share of good fortune during that incredible streak and it’s should come as no surprise that they’d hit a rough spot.

Call it like you see it.
We lost our 4th hitter in the heart of line up, ran into some quality pitching and a collective team wide hitting slump is the result.
Kicking and throwing the ball around defensively happens when you can’t get going offensively….funny how that happens in baseball, tough stretches happen in baseball.
Tomorrow is another day!
Don’t forget their two best lefty hitters against two very good right handed pitchers. I also think Richie S might have made about three plays in right field that weren’t made today.

I went to the Friday game. Iowa's starter was legit. There were 12 - 15 scouts with guns on his every pitch. Contrastly, zero on Kollar who is having a great season and has pro aspirations.

Iowa does not beat themselves. They foul off pitches, make good contact and play great defense.

Rutgers has been reaching for pitches early in at bats and helping keep Iowa pitch counts low.

Our guys are a little snakebitten after today. Things just unraveled afte Florence departed.

Apparently Cimillo is day to day. It will be tough to avoid the sweep. As someone above mentioned, this is the meat of our schedule now.

Why isn’t Richie playing, he’s having a
good year?

Do us a favor: please don’t comment on baseball anymore. You’re absolutely miserable.
So what if we made a few hours in the last couple games, it happens, even to the best teams in the majors. Nobody said this team was great. They’re good, will likely make the NCAA’s, so enjoy the ride. My Lord.
Have you read your own posts during the lax game? Lol... thats like the pot calling the kettle...wait I'm not sure if that phrase is allowed by the woke police.

He and Sleight have also both been out of the lineup injured. Do you see Richie as good of a right fielder as I do in my less educated opinion?

I don’t mind being called out if I’m wrong or have my opinion challenged. I’m a big boy and have been around Rutgers sports far longer than almost everybody on this board excepting Beaced. But what I find utterly unacceptable is the propensity to disparage posters who don’t sugar coat all things Rutgers. You don’t like my contributions. Fine. Don’t read them. I try hard to be honest but can’t account for some people’s sensitivity to the truth. Apologies to those I’ve offended. And you can turn down the hyperbole.
No Grasshopper maybe on this board but not around this program. I have more time in the sh$&$$t house than that. I actually go back to 1968 first with baseball and football. It ‘s your continuous negativity you project not only regarding baseball but football as well. Nobody disparaged you since you brought nothing worth discussing. Nobody sugar coated anything… read my post above … it was an honest appraisal of this team and what we have lacked the past 3 games. Hitting , pitching , defense needs to perform better and so should you.

Not that it matters but I've got you beat by 10 years.

Here’s the point .Whether you have more years is not what the issue was. I defended these players and team. However , if they are playing poorly then I tell it just like that. This team is a good team … good teams go into slumps if that’s what they cal it still. We can’t match yet there pitching. I’m the dummy who said two weeks ago the season would be determined by the 5-6 series vs top teams in the B1G.Iowa always is a representative team and I believe a preseason pick to win the conference along with Illinois and perhaps Maryland, Michigan. Like it or not who was sugar coating the team’s play. Just don’t need to see Iowa’s up 1-0… Rutgers down 4-0 went easily in the 4th. Did you ever think perhaps some were also at the field.Maybe I was sitting near you in Left Field? But it’s not just today or yesterday. It’s every game …in every sport it seems. We lack frontline pitching like the kid today. The conference has several studs and maybe we do but they are still young. We need to keep 2-3 of the best from New Jersey here and not at Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, North Carolina etc. Improve the facility and that will help to some extent. Also it is almost a yearly thing with injuries…we don’t have the quality backups of those perennial power teams in D1 baseball.

Well , then I’ll respect my elders dad. Keep posting on here but at least make an attempt to show positivity once in awhile. Our programs have all shown growth potential the past 2-3 years . We are going to have more up and down periods in baseball, football , MBB , WBB ,M & W lacrosse , soccer. as the programs ( hopefully develop) mature under some very good coaches and staffs. I will try to temper my posts on what I perceive to be negative ones. GO RU !!!!!!!

I have been a supporter of Rutgers sports since I attended my first RU sporting event and watched the great Billy Austin in action. I am a double Rutgers degree holder and have donated my time and money to the Rutgers community for over 60 years. I have served on numerous alumni fundraising committees. My Rutgers pedigree is unassailable. Unfortunately, I moved to the left coast over 20 years ago and can no longer attend RU home games in person, although I did attend the Cal, Washington State and Washington road football games.

But I also am an unabashed critic when I see things amiss. I understand what it means to be a fan and to give unwavering support to all teams that wear Scarlet, but that doesn’t mean I can’t call it like I see it. As a long standing alum you should know that losing to Princeton ( or Penn State) tears at the soul of a Loyal Son, so the losses this year to the Tigers in lacrosse and baseball (when RU was the better team) were particularly galling. My comments reflected that angst.

Sure I can be snarky and satirically negative, but IMO all for a good cause. Some people on this board need to grow a pair . I want RU to succeed just as much as they do, maybe more, but if RU falls short , or is heading in the wrong direction, I’ll be sure to speak up. I’m getting cranky in my old age. My fear is that I won’t be around long enough to see RU win that first national championship.

Well let’s hope we all are around to see some productive Rutgers teams in the near future. To be perfectly fair is one thing when critiquing players and teams. But then we must realize what you also said about we were due after some close games. At least this is my take. You would be correct as the law of averages certainly comes into the equation. We are a good team . We are not ( against better opponents ) a dominant squad. We lack quality depth at key positions. This is proven by recent comments made about our sub right fielder’s play, missing Cimillo our catcher and a quality bat. We will win hopefully 10-12 more games before post season play. This conference may not get 4-5 bids. As for the other things … degrees, donations, community service I commend you but this is about something a little different. So live long and prosper as the late Mr. Spock used to say… most importantly enjoy OUR Scarlet Knights in all their future success.

Well said! Sounds like you played this game at a high level.

The Baseball season is "not a sprint" that has many independent events during a game, a season, and sometimes skill level anomalies occur.

Box scores don't tell us about nagging aches and pain that a player ignores and shows up every day prepared to play.

The success you have in practice does not always translate to a game that requires discipline and split-second response...hitters are a great example with swinging at fastballs in the 90's with movement and you hope they trust the hitting mechanics learned in practice.

Lastly, when you are in a slump you are likely to be pressing a bit instead of letting the game come to you.

Go Rutgers! Set a goal of making the NCAA tournament and build from there.

Playing much better today! Sometimes when you're missing people in the lineup, the guys that are playing try too hard to make up for it. I'll bet Steve had a talk with them and told them to just relax and hit the way you always do.

10-4 win. That's what good teams do. Nice bounce back , especially when short handed.

Nice try. In 1869, we finished 1-1. I was there in '61 for the undefeated season (I thought the 8-1 '58 team was better) and thought for sure we'd be heading for the Rose Bowl. Undefeated team in 1976 had a SOS of 114 out of 137, beating Navy, Bucknell,Princeton,Cornell,UConn, Lehigh,Columbia,UMass, L'ville, Tulane and Colgate. The game against Colgate turned into a cliffhanger and RU got the benefit of a very unusual penalty of a punt that denied Colgate very good field position and a chance to take the lead. I believe that team finished #17 in the national polls. A bona fide national championship awaits.

Good bounce back win. It’s a long season.
Agreed. Great win today. This team doesn't back down. Owens is building a program with local kids that is going to be highly competitive in the B1G. All this despite having to play catch up with respect to facilities.

I am very proud how our baseball team bounced back today. They came up off the deck and put it on Iowa and showed they are a pretty good team. Here is hoping we can get 100% healthy real soon.

Just need to do whatever we have to do to put ourselves in a position to be playing in June

Since there was no college playoff ( and there still really isn’t since it is rigged for only half the conferences), we can claim National Champions as much as anyone else .
