Basketball Rutgers Basketball Big Man Lathan Sommerville Enters Transfer Portal

Check post above.

This entire board is going to be crying in two years watching Lathan play.

Most talented big RU has had in my lifetime.

Whatever player he becomes, he could have become at Rutgers.

His biggest and most glaring weaknesses were on the defensive side and in his head.

I would actually argue that this staff could have really raised his game if he was willing to put the work and effort in on the defensive end of the court.

You aren't wrong, he exceeded my expectations for a freshman, sinve I dont have any for them, but was a huge let down for a starting center. Shouldn't have been on the court as much as he was.
Agreed but that’s on Pike not him. Great footwork and ability to score around the rim. Really really good foul shooter .

Clearly needs a lot of defensive help. As freshman go, he is at the top for scoring freshman. Especially, since he played for such an offensive challenged staff that does not know how to play to its players strengths.

I don't disagree, I preferred he came back

Then why did Steve reach out to so many bigs in the portal? Just because he liked to talk to them?
Oh he reached out and when a few showed interest Lathan bullied Pike and Pike folded. It’s been reported by multiple ppl and not just these blogs. Richie mentioned it again in todays Pod!

disagree. The kid needs to have stuff ran for him, not just this P&R or backdown nonsense.

Yes his weaknesses were on the defensive side of the ball, but he’s 18 playing against 23 year olds.

He came into the season overweight and lost a ton of bad weight. He’s going to be a monster after a few years, really bummed it won’t be at RU.

I am sorry to see Lathan leave. His father and our asst. coach Thompson played together professionally in Europe. That is how we landed him. Piscataway Mike wrote about this also. I hope Grant and Storch will stay at RU and that we can get a center who can play better defense than Lathan and can score, rebound and block shots. We really need some better players from the portal who will be much better than players we are losing. If not we can struggle a lot next season. THe NCAA has to do something soon as this NIL is ruining college basketball. So sad.

everyone on here that is calling to bail on the program is just further proof we are not dogs that are meant to be in this fight

i doubt people are sitting here saying this at iowa, nebraska, etc
These people you are insulting have been spending their time and money supporting this mess for 30-35 years. Pretty bad take imo. Rutgers needs to step up across the board

This guy acted like a pussy when he told the staff not to bring in a xfer center and then wants to be paid. Good riddance
Actually he did what he should have. It was the coaches fault for bending over and letting the player dictate the terms. Season sunk. Player leavess anyway b. We are stuck with the coach. Rutgers

Agreed the failures start at the top

Coach
RU Collectives

They have not gotten the job done. Poke you think you can coach ? Throw your own money in the ring and prove to the fan base you deserve to be here and we should back you.

Who? Storch

The NCAA stripped away all transfer rules. NIL would be a non issue without that.

Yeah this doesn’t get enough attention. If the legacy transfer rules were reinstated a lot of this probably goes away. A year is a long time to sit out to auction yourself off. It’s also a full year of earning potential lost.

And only one undergrad transfer, too. You jump, and that's your only jump until your grad year.

2 year contracts with a buyout option.
Athlete leaves gaining school makes losing school whole on NIL paid.

Treat it like coaches and buyouts. Definitely get rid of 1 year deals

Yea dude it’s almost like he was a true freshman. How many true freshman are starting centers for P5 teams? Can probably count them on one hand.

Get this!! His Instagram says he’s a 6-10 COMBO FORWARD !! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 Go look….

Who can’t shoot!! 😂😂😂😂
