Rutgers basketball player arrested on 7 charges, including ‘terroristic threats’

horrible- unexceptionable, can't get in trouble -too bright a light on you as any player in D1..... justice will take it's course... and his time on the banks may be over....

...but, jezzusHChriistmas.... what is with Piscattaway / Middlesex county law enforcement and constant "over-charging" of RU players? simple assault, criminal mischief, false imprisonment, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, theft by unlawful taking, and terroristic threats.... c'mon.....

Wow. I am beyond sad. I really like Issa. I hope someone didn’t provoke him. It’s not easy being a student-athlete. People can be really mean. Still no excuse, just saying. Nothing good happens that late. Wait for details before passing judgment. Issa has everything to lose here...already has. Smh. Ugh.

Go RU!

Clearly every sherrif in central Jersey has applied and been denied admission. Or they think driving thru town equates to driving thru the parking lots game day.

How about our players stop doing stupid shit?

Wow... just... wow.

When I saw the headline, I thought... oh no, who could it be? And then.... Issa? Not that I could really envision it being any of our guys, but Issa's probably the *last* one I would have come up with if forced to guess.

Curious to know more of what happened here.... if this is as serious as it sounds, or if it's a more minor incident that someone's making major by pressing a bunch of charges.

Between this and the football guys and the basketball ladies RU should just recruit thugs cause the "nice kids" seem to be thugs in disguise.

The fact they are third and fourth degree weapons offenses mean they are not for a gun. They are for other weapons which could be a knife but could also be common household items used as a weapon such as a hammer or other tool. Happens alot.

Terroristic threats as another poster said is a very common charge in NJ. Essentially telling someone your going to kill them with the victim believing the immidiacey of the threat is the basics.

thx...really hope this is not as bad as it looks.

So you are definitvely saying that since it is 3rd and 4th that it definitely isnt a gun?

What does disorderly mean?

"This program" as in the RU athletic department, or the men't hoops program specifically? I don't recall men's hoops having a player arrested. Tbh, things have been trending nicely since Pikes got here.

With how bad things have happened to the basketball program for 28 years

One particular incident can have a few charges associated it, hence 7 charges for probably doing a few really stupid (or horrible) things. I hope he gets this sorted out... but I'm really shocked that it was Issa.

Hobbs has some work to do. Individually the coaches we know of whose kids have had legal trouble include Ash, Stringer and now Pike. They are all upstanding individuals and certainly have the best in mind for their players. But they need to be better attuned to what is going on with their players. Hobbs needs to get them all in for some training this summer. This is getting out of hand!

Paints a helluva picture, doesn't it? Anything's possible, but I'll reserve judgement until more details come to light.

If a gun was involved I am sure they would have said FIREARM as part of the charge and it would have been 1st Degree. Especially since NJ is not a gun happy state.

The off court nonsense never ends .What a way to end the regular season with another embarrassing incident.

of course - you are 100% right.. I shouldn't guess -- and not trying to dismiss or make light of this... but, having seen "over-charging" many times... you could also see this

simple assault, criminal mischief, false imprisonment, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, theft by unlawful taking, and terroristic threats....

sounds more like a fight with a girlfriend, throw something and break a window or mirror...not let them leave the room... and you erase a few texts by hiding someones cell phone.....

just saying... initial charges can be very misleading.......

I served on a grand jury a number of years ago and had two cases of terroristic threats that were brought before us. From what I remember, a terroristic threat is one that you make against another where there is reasonable credibility that the threat will be carried out.

Standing over someone with a baseball bat and threatening to bash their head with it, very well could qualify getting charged with making a terroristic threat.

Honestly... part of the cost of business when dealing in high major athletes. Happens pretty much everywhere. Hope all involved are safe and hope Magoo is right that it's not as bad as it sounds.

No doubt. I agree with you. It's hard for me to imagine it being as bad as it sounds, having interacted with Issa. But, I guess we'll know more soon enough.

The credit card 8 was overhyped beyond belief....always best to let things play out....4 of the 8 are back on the roster, after the overhyped headlines, which when actually reviewed by a lawyer, was not as big of a deal as originally thought.....You had fans saying all 8 players would never play again or walk foot on the practice field again, less than 9 months later, 4 are still here and in school....and barring something else, will play this year.....

I don't know what happened with Issa.......what I do know is that RU fans typically jump the gun, overreact to headlines, help with revenue for places that report half the story without knowing much of anything.....It's not to say things that have no relevance or act as if RU is the only school that has players who have domestic disputes etc......

Always best to let things play out, get all the information and not assume NJ.com or app.com or someone has everything buttoned up when they don't.....or rarely ever do get it right the first time.

This is not going to be the last incident in time for RU, doesn't make it right or wrong, just a reality of 18 to 23 year olds, on a college campus, doing kid or young adult things. A student athlete isn't immune from the same things of other students on campus. And yes, they represent the school, blah blah blah.....

This is a distraction that the team doesn't need, but Sunday, the team has to play at Indiana and Issa won't be there.....he may not play ever again at RU, I don't know.....but at the end of the day, you cannot control or burn negative energy on things when they pop up, like the world is crumbling around you. Strap it up, learn from the mistakes, make it a teaching moment for others and hope for the best.

You people live in jersey, right?

Crawling thru a stop sign...

Failure to yield.
Reckless driving.
Failure to maintain control of your vehicle.
And more...

So true. I got a ticket from a Far Hills cop for one of the light bulbs above my license plate being out.

I know terorristic means to invoke terror but they really need to change the name of these types of charges. It’s not what people think of when they hear it and it invokes a lot of fear and hatred. This name needs to be resolved for specific heinous acts.

Damn. In no way am I defending Issa if this is true, but you gotta feel sick. The general consensus seems like he is a quiet and nice kid who probably made a mistake. He will likely be dismissed from the team and his career might be over. he seemed like a kid who lived in the gym. Someone like him won’t really have anywhere else to turn, as his home is back in Africa. Hopefully when we get more details it’s not terrible.

Post of the year. Couldn't agree more , especially about the jumping the gun knee jerk reactions of a lot of Rutgers fans

If it is a GF issue.. Thiam could have threatened to kill himself and Jersey cops would charge him with terroristic threats. They always look to pile on charges.. as man and as severe as possible.. drives up the need for lawyers and increases fines and court costs and plea bargains.

Don’t want to spread rumors until official word comes out but If what I heard is true I don’t think it’s as bad as it sounds but it’s not good. If true, he should be dismissed in my opinion.
Ohh-Kay

What’s the point of saying this if you’re not going to spill? This board is notorious for “I know, but won’t tell over the internet” only for it to come out over the internet within an hour or two.
