Basketball Rutgers Basketball WILL NOT participate in a postseason tournament

So past few days we heard Rutgers would accept an invite then wake up to see this. Makes me think coaches wanted it but players took a pass. Perhaps this is an indication of this not being a tight group? Feeds into a lot of the narrative over the past few years that the locker room chemistry is not there. I’ve been very hesitant to jump on the ditch Pike bandwagon but there are too many indications this has been going on the wrong direction for 2-3 years. He has 358 days to turn this around for me…

The crazy part about college basketball these days is the next month or so more or less determines your entire upcoming season. Its pretty wild. I feel zero connection to the bball program due to how awful basketball “me me me” culture is.

Football we still get to watch the boys become men and see them grow up in our program.

Granted ive known kyle monangai since he was born but watching him grow through college was awesome. Same goes for a kid like robert longerbeam who comes in here as a 145 pound teenager and leaves as a team leader and nfl combine invitee

Now let’s fire Pike and Hire the NYU coach
On the cheap
I do think there are a lot of excellent coaches- better than many D1 coaches - in D3. But I'd go with other guys there over the NYU coach personally. He's done a great job there though undeniably.

What if they get invited to NCAAs? 😂

Agree with Kyk on barely getting to know players/rosters in bball. The one factor I loved about college sports is seeing kids in the program develop over time…long gone now
Agree 100%. I’m a die hard fan but if I stop caring about the players I stop caring about the team. Don’t know how much I can hang in watching new teams each year. It’s becoming worse than the pros. Another poster noted how Greg is making it work so I’m hoping he can maintain his culture.

Did they actually say they would accept, or only that they would likely be invited?

I also think it’s only a matter of probably two to three years before we start seeing schools lock players in with multi-year contracts

So you created your own reason then go onto to explain how it needs to be resolved? Maybe it was a mutual agreement by everyone?

This tells me we probably couldn't have fielded a legitimate team with all the sit outs. Pike may not have wanted to be embarrassed further either. Regardless, the right decision. An unenjoyable and disappointing season doesn't need to be prolonged just to endure another dagger to the heart

The point is anything is better than what is going on it’s a model for guaranteed failure

Weird, feels like the Crown was invented for a team like us. Made for TV with teams That didnt make the NCAAs. NIL $& for playing too. Are we a program that can turn our noses down at non NCAAs like UNC? Maybe because we have 50,000 banners hanging in the RAC already they felt like they didnt need one more. Even though only 3 of those are for actual national championships. Oh well.

I don’t think there’s an NIL incentive attached to the Crown after all

There is, up to 2 million.
anything just for participating? lol or is it winner takes all because if we can get like $250k just for running out some walk-ons and equipment managers then I don’t see why not

I do like how you think - to me D3 coaches are way undervalued. Got to hire the right one though and have an AD with some real confidence. Because it's outside the box any hiccups get magnified.

Yes I think NCAA need s to step in and require all freshmen to play first two years with one school before they are free agents.

Makes me think many intend on hitting the portal. We may be left with only 2-3 players from this roster next year. If this continues to be the norm will be tough to follow this sports
