Rutgers Board expected to approve $3.5 M Baseball , Softball Training Facility

I thought we broke ground on this already ?? I could've swore I saw a "shovels in the ground" ceremony picture more than a few months ago.

That's right...I thought I remember that it was supposed to be started already. I'm confused.

Given that Rutgers probably has the WORST softball facilities of any Power 5 school (and far worse than most other D1, D2, and D3 schools), this is a long time coming. Maybe now they'll be able to start getting some top players.

We're talking "worse than high school" levels here.

if any of you guys go to the Washington game next Labor Day be sure to check out their softball facilities. They are AMAZING.

I assume you hit it up during your "Softball Facilities Around The Nation Tour of 2013"??

haha yes you know what a huge softball nut I am!

Actually a few years ago we were vacationing in Seattle/Victoria/Vancouver and we walked around UWs campus and saw Husky Stadium (pre-renovation). Their sports facilities are awesome and their basketball arena couldn't be more perfect . Not too big , nice pitch on the seats. UW and Seattle is agreat place, for anyone on the fence of seeing the first game of the Ash era, would highly recommend it.

you are kidding me right
Not at all. There are sports that we will never be consistently good at for a number of reasons including weather. Anybody who is good at golf, softball, and baseball for example is going south or west. I will state it for the billionth time, we should never have more varsity sports than Texas.

Don't feel bad, we all have a stalker or two, believe me.

Baseball has been successful here

Baseball has been successful here
Baseball has been moderately successful while in the Big East. When was the last time they won a conference championship, tournament, went to the regionals or beyond? The CWS? Look, I'm not saying you have to drop all these sports but we simply have too many. Keep baseball and women's soccer and drop softball and men's soccer for example. How about golf and swimming? We have any pros or Olympians coming out of these programs?

Drop men's soccer? Yeah that makes a whole lotta sense... That saves how much money?

Isn't the PAC 12 the gold standard of Women's Softball or am I behind the times?

PAC teams are still up at the top along with SEC and a few ther programs, including Oklahoma and _ichigan are up there as well. . I really wish another B1G team would knock TUN off.

Start a womens football team while dropping softball and other non-performing womens teams until break even with numbers. We will have the only womens football team in the country. We will win the national championship by default, and not have to cut mens sports. Will help us with Directors Cup standings. If waterpolo counts, womens football should as well. Since our team wouldnt have to travel, or play games, they would have lots of time to study and attend office hours. This would lead to a higher APR, and more academic All-Americans. Win win all the way around.

You've gone beyond troll stage now...

Someone seriously said to drop "golf and swimming"? We have a freakin' golf course - NOT happening - and only have a Woman's Swim Team (so THAT isn't happening) that competes in a very nice venue (Werblin Center). Where on EARTH do people come up with this shit? SMH.

Why would we drop men's soccer? NJ has plenty of talent on that front and they've made the NCAA tourney what two years in a row now. Soccer is not our problem both teams are on the upswing. Well the women's squad has been good for a while, they're now building towards great or even elite.

Based on your criteria all DII and DIII schools should drop all sports, because their athletes aren't good enough to compete on a bigger stage.

There are plans to build a golf facility at the driving range isn't there? Women's Swimming already has a decent facility. Men's soccer made the NCAA's this year.

You can't just throw out other programs. If you're going to have sports at a major university they should be as diverse as possible. Besides RU still gets heat for dropping fencing, men's swimming, and crew. Don't need to give them more ammunition.

BOG will meet today.

The groundbreaking from before was just a photo op to announce that the funding was a success. It still had to go out to bid (completed) and finally that bid has to be approved, which is what they will do today.

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:Excuse me but other then nicely cut grass and some straight chalk lines and a couple of cinderblock dugouts what the hell else is there to a baseball field then some aluminum bleachers? PAC 12 gold standard for what greener grass? I guess they have attendants in the bathroom to wipe your ass when you are done! it's baseball field!:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I hope that clears thing up for the slow fold that get outraged with unlabeled sarcasm:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Do those schools read 30 articles a year about their subsidy and how it's a drain on academics? Does their state population buy into the idea that it's a drain on academics? No....we have two choices. Build facilities and start funding the sports at B1G levels or drop sports. Nobody when wins when you are half in.

You might want to go onto some websites and take a look at venues around the nation. Shit even Stony Brook, out on Long Island, has better softball and baseball facilities than RU does.

you are so off the mark on this issue. Why do schools have any Olympic sports. Yeh lets just have football, basketball and wrestling, **** everybody else....note the facilities and Olympic sport success of the Big 10 schools

why not drop football.....Northeastern football is pretty tragic when you think about it, culture is not there so why bothering having that sport, they go where its sunnier and warmer, just shut it down
