I was looking forward to enjoying the bar and dinner at the Rutgers Club before the home opener...but they’re closed today for a private event (just in case anyone else had the same plan as me!)

Hobbs is clearly not a pay attention to detail AD
There isn't an AD or executive that does everything right. Yes, this is ridiculous, but I'd cut them some slack, as they're probably making more $ from the private event than they would otherwise.

If so, then it's a major fuk up. I'll guess no and give them the benefit of the doubt.

They should always keep a section open for Rutgers folks. The design should have incorporated this.

The Friday afternoon before Homecoming, I stopped in with a few old roommates to check it out. It was closed, prepping for a private event. But they gave us a quick tour on request. Nice enough venue. But staff not impressive. They missed out on an opportunity and never knew it; one of the guys heads a healthcare system and was scouting it out for a possible event. I asked if they run or could run a shuttle between the RAC and the club for group events. No, said the woman. You might want to consider it, I suggested, especially for winter night BB games. She pretty much dismissed it. Attitude. Caught us all by surprise. We looked at each other. RU needs to up its game.

Rutgers in a nutshell. Mucky Mouse and incapable of creative value added thinking.

So hard to imagine for such a higher ed. Institution.

They're not used to big-time college athletics. Have to change their way of thinking.

Went tonight and was told it was Salsa night and I needed reservations. Very random.

How do you even join the Club?
Very easy, google it, get application m a short one, pay $25 and you are good to go. Got there in the downpour and then found out a private event and turned us away. Looked very nice with a beautiful bar . Looking forward to going there for the first time. My wife teaches there and has been at the club and says it is very nice with good food.

I went last week and spoke with Sebastian, the manager. He said that there is a cart that will shuttle us to and even from the game if we call

We saw it, a golf-cart style shuttle, open air. Not exactly what is needed for clients or benefactors. Amateurish. Well, worse than that, actually. Wouldn't take much to correct it. But "they" don't seem to get it. Not sure who is over the effort, but, clearly, there needs to be changes, quick.

Didn’t he club just move into the new facility this year? Previously on College Ave, so not as convenient for pre game activities. Probably no experience dealing with demand for such wants. Also not under Athletic Dept. so maybe AD did drop the ball on trying to coordinate outside his chain of command.

Is it a far walk from club to RAC ? I was under the impression that it was very close.

I've been there twice this year. 2nd time brought some guests who are unfamiliar with Rutgers. They were all impressed. The food was great. The service was also very good albeit the 2nd time the waitress was a tad on the inexperienced side but still polite and responsive.

The walk to the RAC is maybe 5 mins...tops.

It's a shame it was closed the night of the opener, but some of these replies are classic self hate Rutgers.

The Rutgers Club is a net-plus...really nice touch. How this somehow becomes "same old Rutgers" is pathetic.

The event on opening night was booked way on advance prior to the schedule coming out. However they are working on setting up a space if there are conflicting events. This Friday there is another private event but they said the bar area would be available and that next Monday there are no private events scheduled.

So it was closed for the home opener and it's closed for the biggest non-conference game. Not ideal.

Now it’s closed for the sold out Michigan state game...for a private event

Seriously?! So much for this being a "great alternative" to meeting in New Brunswick before bball games.
Exactly. I wanted to join, but if it's never open when I'm there for games, what's the point? They have to figure out a way to accommodate an event and walk-ins on the same night.

I think it is very possible that they do not yet realize that by moving to Livingston they have made themselves the BEST pre-game option for basketball and other RAC events. When they allow these private events book, I hope they know how much they are leaving on the table. Its probably not the biggest deal for a 6pm tip MSU game, but they really need to stop allowing private events on game days -- or at least make sure they are getting a lot of money for them.

I have a feeling the place is going to be a shit show for the first big game they are open. I highly doubt they are ready for the volume of people they are going to see.

When I asked what the event was, the guy said "I don't know. It just says right here 'do not allow reservations for Friday, November 30th.'" :flushed:

For pre-6PM? That is absolutely stupid. If they were planning correctly they could have a pre-game crowd and an event starting at 7

I asked to make a dinner reservation and they said that they were closed after lunch (which ends at 2:30)
