The collection of Tweets also references pizza spots on campus, the aerial view of the New York/New Jersey skyline and much more.

I wonder where he got his pizza. NB, with the huge exception of Panico's, has embarrassingly the worst NJ pizza ever. If he's in Piscataway, hopefully he gets his pizza at Fratelli's.

I'd like these coaches talk about falafels and the grease trucks.

Falafels are something that I never had until RU and I will always love them.

True dat. Same with Baba Ganoush. Rutgers opens your eyes to Middle Eastern food even if it's just the trucks.

If I was at Rutgers now, I'd probably spend a ton of time at Efes on the corner of Easton and Somerset.

On the pizza front, I tried a slice of Skinny Vinnie's pizza a year or two back, and they had really regressed - and apparently sell sushi now, too? o.O

lived across the street from Kings Pizza on easton back in school, perfect for after the bars all closed.

The sushi has been there for over 10 years now.

Yeah, well, last time I had been there was around 2000 - it was my favorite pizza spot when I was there from 1996-2000. The pizza was much better back then than it was in 2013 or so when I went back. Didn't try the sushi - hopefully it's better than the pizza has become.

This whole Twitter emphasis on "the Garden" thing is bizarre to me. It hasn't grown on me since they started using it. I imagine anyone else from Jersey feels the same way.

Agreed. No one from here refers to NJ as "The Garden," at least I've never heard it. If anything, it makes you think of MSG. That said, I LOVE the enthusiasm of the new staff.

Increasing a profile on Twitter definitely helps. At Nebraska our previous regime never tweeted or anything like that. Our new coaching staff (Including Mike Riley) and support staff really do some neat stuff on Twitter with Photoshop and everything. Kids eat that up, it's a good thing for a coaching staff to embrace.

they are coming from the Midwest where pizza is basically awful except for Chicago. Even bad NJ pizza is delicious compared to what they have eating out there

When I lived in Cincinnati, I developed a love for Papa Johns--the doughy, awful sauce of a mess that it was. The garlic cheese sauce for dipping made it palatable. I don't see how Domino's and Papa Johns can survive in NJ.

I think that's what the term 'changing the culture' means.

So you're expecting an entire state to start referencing itself by the state nickname, which it almost never uses outside its license plate? It just really seems like a Midwest thing - Hoosier, Hawkeye, Buckeye, Badger. We aren't the Gardeners, no one seriously still touts the positive side of our state as its gardens, nor does any state for that matter. Jersey Fresh is a much better hashtag to me and is a phrase that is actually in use in Jersey lingo, on produce. Fence the garden just sounds so strange.

I still can't figure why anyone would call a huge chain of restaurants "Pizza Ranch" ???

Yeah, I'm sure the staffs goal is to get the entire state to start referring to the state as the Garden, lol. What they're trying to do is create a sense of identity and pride and trying to do it with something positive about the state. I can imagine an out of state kid asking why do you call NJ the Garden? Then a positive conversation about the state begins. In fairness to the "midwesterners" they're making a huge effort to embrace NJ and present the state/school in a positive way...in typical jersey fashion we resist. Like you said, no one really touts the positive side of the state...we are more into self loathing, it's a Jersey thing, lol

With all due respect, your suggestion of Jersey Fresh is kind of generic. You can put fresh behind any state name and it'll sound catchy.

Domino's delivers and they take food stamps (many fast food places do now). Nothing says "economic justice" like a knee high stack of Domino's boxes outside a Sec8 house on paper day.

I like "the Garden" theme. Sounds better to out-of-staters who hear NJ and think of Guidos and smokestacks

I do love the enthusiasm as well, just wished they picked a different phrase, but def love that they are thinking and trying new things!

Maybe you would rather it be #GTL with a picture of the situation. A lot of people outside your state think guidos when they hear Jersey and frankly Jersey Fresh sounds to me like something snookie would have said. Better leave this one to your coaching staff .

Well played sir. Well played[roll] Oh and I own a small farm here in NJ and have an apple and peach orchard so I guess I'm considered a Gardener. And yes I have a fence around it.

My new neighbor has a large fence around his garden, and I'll be planting one too... with its own fence. Interestingly, the fence is to keep the bucks (and does) out.

Yes we have a five foot fence but deer can hop that standing still. So we also have two Great Pyrenees dogs to keep them out, otherwise our trees would be destroyed. Just like the vulture coaches who come in to this state and pick us clean.

Yeah, his is 7 feet, and they leave his garden alone. The groundhog doesn't, but the deer do.

Another neighbor says he puts poles up at the corners of the garden fence and and runs string pole to pole, tying strips of cotton cloth in the middle that blow in the wind - and the deer have stayed out.

We'll see - I've moved from a fenced in townhouse yard to two acres, so my battles with nature have just begun. Ha.

Don't worry if your doing it organically by the end of next year you'll become an entomologist and know exactly what your doing. This is my 3rd year with an 8 acre farm, the internet will become your best friend as you will find a bug and wonder what the hell is this. Good luck you'll be fine. It's great to grow your own foods, we sell ours and lose money but we enjoy it. Next you'll have to get chickens they're great they give you eggs and eat all the bugs.

So is Coffaro's still around?

Sadly 'no'. My favorite dining place while I was on campus. All you can eat spaghetti or shells for $3.99 on Monday or Tuesday night if I recall correctly. Gabe, the owner, provided a dough mixing bowl full of shells so I wouldn't have to keep asking for refills.

Yeah, already found a wheel bug, and staying the hell away from that thing.

One of our other neighbors have chickens, and we may end up going down that road, too.

First order of business, though, is beating back a wisteria bush that the prior owners never spent any time controlling and has largely taken over the front yard.

Always had a bit of a green thumb, and my dad loved gardening - this is the first time I'll have the space to do anything more serious than a few boxes with tomatoes and cucumbers, though. Looking forward to it.
