Why is it that it seems like a trait of a Rutgers fan is giving out the impression that the refs “suck” or are blind, hate Rutgers in general and can’t make a good/fair call that leans toward Rutgers even at home.

Also, what other Traits of Rutgers fans do you notice?

Some I have noticed include

They always complain about parking

They want to know if the game is old out or not and why only so many people showed up.

Why so many, the last one left from a group that was or a loner. The Die-hard that won’t give up and shows ups at practically every game.

The older you get the more likely you are to return to the fold. The “old” you know I really missed this being a fan thing and you don’t realize it until you got a lot of time on your hands and there are many just like you.

Not so much a trait but a common question: Why is there a water fountain bottle filler if you can’t bring in an empty bottle to fill up the bottle with water. I don’t recall seeing any cups at the RAC this season for drinks. Can you even get a beer put into a plastic cup?

There were people leaving Sunday’s game with under 4 to go and less than a 10-point lead...THAT (typically) DOES NOT happen elsewhere (football or hoops).

I’ve seen band members filling up bottles at the fountains

Right. What the hell is the rush? You paid to see 40 minutes of basketball - why rush out?

“gotta beat the traffic!!” ...and I’m not talking the handicapped here, either, I’m talking typically middle-aged men with or without kids.

I watch lots of college basketball, how many times this season have you seen a team in the bonus after 3 minutes. After the other coach got a T at that. After calling 1 foul on that team the entire first half.
How many games we’ve had where the FT discrepancy is like 30-16. It’s just too many and it’s right to complain about it even though the reality is refs call based on perception they are humans not robots and as long as media/fans call Rutgers bad then we are bad in the minds of the refs

I knew it was over when Fran chirped away at the half and that is a problem. Fully documented in the game thread so not just throwing out more ref-sweet-nothings after the fact.

It seems all Big ten fanbases cry and whine about the refs like sore losers. Officiating large bodies going in fast motion is a somewhat subjective activity.

The only thing I didn't like about the Iowa game was the inconsistency calling fouls between the 2 halfs although it applied to both teams. Having 5 more fouls than Iowa and going to the line 4 less times throughout the game is not out of the realm of fair officiating and one can probably argue against most of the calls one way or another.

Watched the Michigan - Iowa game on Friday night. Michigan was called for 10 more fouls than Iowa and Iowa shot 25 more free throws than Michigan. That's some ugly disparity.

This is absolutely an NY/NJ sports fan thing. People leave Giants and Jets games when they are GOOD because “eh i’ve seen enough, think i’ll hit the road and beat traffic”. Why waste the money going in the first place???

After hearing juwan Howard’s complaints I was concerned the same would happen in the RU game. It’s like the refs decided to let literally everything go in the first half which was great. After Frans T, the pendulum completely swung. Hard for the players to know what will be called. It’s the inconsistency that drives me crazy.

There are about 25 fan bases that all said Tim Higgins hated them, was the worst ref ever, and that they never won a game he worked.

Dude....you forgot bathrooms and concessions!!!

Iowa v Michigan just the other day.

Every fan base thinks every close game their team loses was decided by the refs. If we held on the other night Iowa would be flipping out about the light bump call Ron got on the sideline that gave us 2 FTs instead of Iowa ball.

We can complain about the refs, but how many FTs did we miss, how many layups did we miss, and we didn't adjust to the refs till the last 4 minutes of the game.

One of them was not St. Johns.
This violates the "every fan base complains about every bad ref" postulate. Ran off the court while the clock was still running? Who cares, he called a ticky tack foul on Brownlee that sent RU to the line for 2 FTs with 10 min left!

My pet peeve is that many are unfamiliar with “You’re never as good as you think you are on your best day, and never as bad as on your worst day.” The wild roller coaster of “We’re great, we suck” based on each singular game I suppose is typical of most fan bases. Really comical when it happens in-game!
