Rutgers finally breaks NET top 100

Personally I think the NET is way off. Kenpom has SHU at # 62 and us at # 68. SHU's strength of schedule they have as now # 41. Our SOS is now at # 17 in the entire country. Segarin has SHU at # 59 and us at # 72. SHU's SOS is at # 36 and ours is at # 20. Somehow I think these two are more accurate. We play 20 games in the # 1 or # 2 conference in the entire country.

Somehow NET gives us a SOS which is nowhere near what Kenpom or Segarin gives us. We have moved up week after week and pretty soon we might even pass SHU. We are playing better than they are right now. We have moved up by far the most number of places in Kenpom of any other major conference team in the country. It is so nice to finally getting some recognition once again. Thank you so much to Steve Pikiell and our staff for making us relevant once again.

Say RU had swept the non-con and were 17-11 right now, we would be very pessimistic because of the lack of quality wins right now. It would be Iowa and four bubble teams. So I understand why RU isn't getting that much return on each win right now in something like NET. However, I find it hard to argue that this has been only the 90th best team in the country over the course of the season, even including the EO-less games.

The NET doesn't care about the AP Top 25, KenPom, or any other rankings. It is a formula that takes into account current-season results only.

Ohio State was rated #1 in the first rankings because they had beaten Cincinnati on the road by 8, Creighton on the road by 9, and four other wins by an average of 29.5 points.

It's a math formula. Rutgers is low because, besides from the game yesterday, our wins over power teams came by an average of 4.5 points and our losses to power schools were by an average of 12.8 points.

Compare that to Penn State whose wins over power teams came by an average of 10.3 points and losses to power teams by an average of 7.1 points. That's why they're higher than us despite two fewer wins over power schools.

Penn State is currently 45 positions ahead of us in the NET rankings. I'd make that a really inaccurate math formula that is factoring point margins of wins and losses way too highly.

It's also measuring strength of schedule.

I find it interesting that the mighty ACC has 5 teams with very poor NET rankings with all 5 over 100 and one team close to 200. So the rest of the conference is feasting on these teams. In contrast, the B1G does not have any team ranked lower than 100.
Made thus exact point the other day.

MOV aside, they beat Michigan, Maryland, and VT. We have no wins particularly near the quality of those three. But again, 45 spots for a team with a worse record and not much tougher schedule... yeah that's probably a MOV problem
