Linebacker Steve Longa was named defensive MVP and return specialist Janarion Grant was named special teams MVP.

Carroo caught 39 passes for 809 yards and 10 touchdowns despite appearing in only eight games due to injuries and suspensions. He was named an honorable mention all-conference selection by the Big Ten coaches

Grant had three kickoff returns for touchdowns, which tied for the most in the nation, and one punt return touchdown this season. The junior was named to the second-team All-Big Ten and the third-team by the coaches.

For the second consecutive year the Big Ten coaches only made Carroo an honorable mention selection.

Senior left tackle Keith Lumpkin and junior defensive end Quanzell Lambert were named the team's most valuable linemen. Senior defensive end Djwany Mera won the Paul Robeson Award, which is given to the senior whose performance, leadership and dedication on and off the field during his varsity career had the greatest impact on Rutgers football. Mera also won the Most Improved Scholar Award for being the student-athlete who has shown the greatest academic improvement.

Senior running back Paul James and senior cornerback Brian Verbitski won the Loyal Knight Award, which is presented to the players who distinguished themselves by sacrificing personal goals for the team and whose character and dedication have proved resilient in the pursuit of excellence. Verbitski also won the Scholar-Athlete Award, which recognizes the letterwinner who has the highest academic average and has demonstrated outstanding football ability. Verbitski has a 3.67 GPA.

@ru81 @Art Stewart Hey now! He was a walk-on, the kind of guy you don't hear much about typically, but he was the scout team player of the week for the Navy game last season. And it doesn't hurt the team's academic rankings to have a guy with a 3.67 GPA on the roster.
