Rutgers is The King of the Mountain in Men's Lacrosse!!

But seriously.... even if its just for a moment.. Being #1 in any sport for RU is a huge deal!!
No reason to expect this to be one week thing. This team is extremely talented. We have played a good schedule so far and have won in convincing fashion.

#1 is really nice but unexpected as I thought that ND would be #1 but it seems like ND and PSU split the #1 votes but we got alot of votes for #2, which is what carried us to the top spot.

It is nice to see but I actually would have preferred to see them get snubbed. Being #1 gets them nothing but a target and every opponents' A game. Not that they wouldn't have gotten that anyway but I would have preferred that they maintained a sense of being disrespected with something to prove. There is a reason this is the oldest sports motivator in the books. Many teams struggle under the weight of expectations. But this team seems like they are on a mission so hopefully they can rise above it.

Not sure how anyone can look at PSU and RU schedules/results side by side an vote PSU #1 - won't matter in the long run since we are in the same conference and will go head to head.

I have no expectations either way... I was just making the comment that this is a huge deal for the perception of Rutgers sports no matter how long or short it lasts..

Going head to head with Hopkins didn't help us last year

I bet today's practice is going to be a bit of a challenge. Being number 1 will guide them through it.

Has to be. They've got some time off, I would be making sure they haven't earned anything yet if I were coach b

That's what you have to do when you are Top Dog. Make the practices as grueling as humanly possible. You let up in practice if the team is struggling and needs to boost morale. Delaware is no pushover and I guarantee Brecht is letting them know that all week.

As they say, worst thing is to read your press clippings. Just take it as another tough game. Go down & take care of business. Look up when the season is over. If we're 1 then have a ripping celebration.

I am sure they are on it. In fact, I know they are. Last week was an incredible week. We beat 2 ranked opponents and a third pushover. Very few teams can make a claim like that at any point. We were bound for a let down with NJIT, but I know the guys learned from it.

It's full week preparation time from here on out. With a full week, the player and staff have proven themselves to be very focused.

Their goal isn't to be number 1 in March or April only. Going to be interesting to see how we respond. This is uncharted territory.

It's all out there for this team. They don't have a glaring weakness, esp. since Francisco has been on fire at the FO x. EMO is not where we would like but that is a trade off when you play our style of offense -- they are just not comfortable running sets. But that shouldn't hold us back. Defense is nasty and getting better. On O there are at least 9 legit scoring threats, including D mids.

The only thing that will keep them from going all the way is the mental side. They are not used to being the hunted. How will they react when every team is trying to either jump them in the standings or make something out of a lost season by taking out #1? It's hard, especially for teams that haven't been there before. For a team like ours, you'd almost rather they stay under the radar for a while and have them make a late run. But this team has already overcome a lot to get where they are so perhaps this team has the mental strength to get it done. Will be fun to watch!
