Just heard on Sirius College station that we gave up 89 plays of 20 or more yards. The hosts were laughing at us. In comparison, Alabama was around 23 and Oklahoma in the 30's. Clemson and Michigan St were in the 50's/60's. Thank god we have Ash to fix this debacle.

In all fairness, we're not going bowling this year so the other teams' numbers will go up.

Amazing. In 12 games and one of those was Norfolk St. So really only in 11 games. Unreal .

We always seemed to be the "cure" for the other team's aliments. -Even if they were supposedly just as banged up as we were, they rolled over us like a tsunami rolls over a beach. (And, of course, after each tsunami we were always left with a "Flood".) ...But that time is over.

if you look around the winning programs, one trait that they have is that they have coaches who tirelessly:
1- study the basic formations and schemes
2- understand their own weaknesses and personnel
3- try to come up with compensating schemes to make up for those weaknesses
4- study the opponent's plays

i didn't see this over the last few years. this sport requires a tremendous effort from the coaches. either the effort or competency wasn't there, otherwise, we wouldn't be worst in the country. to me, it seemed like KF lacked the later.

5- Make adjustments to game plan to adapt to game

6- Pull underperforming quarterback before there is one minute left in the game.

I am going to love watching this board melt down if Ash names Laviano as the starter next year.

Actually, Norfolk St. had four plays of 20 yds. or more in that game...three pass plays and one run.

He might but if he does that will mean that he really is better than the other 5-6 QBs that we have, and in that case.. we are doomed until we can recruit better QBs.

Here are our current QBs:

5 Laviano, Chris QB RS SO 6-3 210 (started last year, did not perform very well)
19 Anthony, Troy QB JR 6-3 195 (Walk on)
11 Rettig, Hayden QB RS SO 6-3 210 (cannon for a arm, Flood refused to play him, looked decent the few times he did play)
17 Rescigno, Giovanni QB RS FR 6-4 225 (Duel Threat QB, suddenly he will have a much better chance to play now, may have never gotten a chance under Flood)
15 Clements, Jack QB FR 6-4 210 (Walk on)
18 Dare, Michael QB FR 6-5 225 (he was a good HS QB, redshirted last year)

Stop giving the other teams short fields too. Wisconsin must have started 4 drives inside our 50. Once I believe they started at our 25 or 26.

Our defense has been horrible for years now. And to think, we actually had fans who thought Flood deserved to stay.

Is there anyone here who thinks the defense wasn't horrendous?? It's been horrendous for 3 years in a row now.

Maybe not now, but there were many pointing to the arrests as the reason the D stunk this year (in defense of Flood/Rossi), completely disregarding what a dumpster fire the D was in each of the 2 years prior.

I still don't get why we played our safeties 15 to 20 yds. off the ball then at the snap they would back pedal another 5 to 7 yds. more. I mean what exactly were we trying to do play 9 on 11. Great we would give up 50 yds. in two plays instead of one. Maybe if they played up a little they could have been in the play to break it up. Still confused by this for three straight years now. It's no wonder we led the country in plays over 20 yds.

Sux when you lose so many ayers at the beginning h of the season to being knuckleheads.

why ? It is very probably that Laviano will be named the starter. He has the most experience, despite being a very poor quarterback, so you may get your love, but why will you find it so enjoyable ? I don't get it

i think they did it 3 reasons:
1- our secondary was not fundamentally sound enough to play man to man press
2- our coaches really didn't understand the opponent's plays enough to teach our players what to do
3- KF misunderstood the basic parameters of bend but don't break strategy
