Rutgers-Nebby Game thread

this is the kind of game against a so so opponent that shows just how far this program has to come. Even with more players next year we have a lot of ground to make up in execution, will and performance

You negatoid. Don't you know we have those injured players come back along with new recruits. the other teams will revert.

Our healthy bigs were dominated at St Johns. Sima shut us down.

Bringing in four "upside" players into the Big Ten wont move the needle as Corey needs help immediately.

Transfers happen every season and you can bet some of our local guys have people in their ears.

FYI Nebraska finished the game on a 60-30 run....this is likely a team that finishes 8-10 in the Big 10 so for those thinking that we will get 6-8 wins, we have to cut a 30 point gap if you average the two losses to them

I think even some of the Jordanites will get tired of this if we don't win another game this year.

the defense is pathetic...that's the problem, 3 years of this..remember Mack Seagears, Jack and Judge went from playing solid D to paying poor D in year 1 and 2
Wonder if Hobbs can bring in an assistant bball coach that is a defensive "specialist", perhaps a former head coach not aiming for the top job like we did with the Fridge to correct Flood's offense 2 seasons ago.

If Hobbs feels he needs to step in and hire an assistant for Jordan , RU MBB would be better off if Hobbs just cut the cord and replaced Eddie.
Once a AD starts feeling he needs to be the one hiring assistants for the HC, that HC needs to be gone ASAP

Hiring Fridge only delayed the inevitable and was just a short term fix that ended once he left.

I know an ex-coach that can bring it on D and could be looking for a college gig.....

His team's don't defend and won't defend. That's what you get with Jordan. It's been going on for 3 years. It's not because guys are hurt. Check the score of the Central Arkansas game

That was my first time in Pinnacle Bank arena. Unbelievable venue. We are so far behind our peers in B1G it isn't funny. Recruiting is impossible against facilities like this.

Duke's facilities haven't been upgraded since around 1988, but that program has been a winner since Bill Foster (RU HC 1963-64 to 70-71) turned the Blue Devils ( he was Duke's HC 1974-75 to 79-80) into a winner and Coach K made it even better a couple of years after he took over.
When you have a winning program facilities are not the problem, but they are a problem for programs ( like RU) that are considered losing ones.

Madhat - need a better example than Duke. Just finished a big project on the exterior and they have all the practice facilities. S&C, etc., of any team. I think they leave Cameron in all its ratty glory so that Dick Vitale can have a few orgasms each year in the press box that hangs from the rafters. It's the Fenway Park of college arenas. Great place to watch a game every couple of years.

Thanks 78 didn't know they just finished a big project and honestly didn't even think about them having good practice facilities. Your right: bad example [cheers]

But in my usual stubbornness, will still claim winning programs don't need the bells and whistles as much as long time losing programs do in order to recruit the better players.
To me HCs are the bells, facilities the whistles [winking]

I ask you this. When was the last time you saw ANY Rutgers player take a charge? Wonder where we rank in that category. Rebounding and taking a charge is all about position. How we doin?

Agree with 78 and 1984

Duke is a bad example----it's a National Brand . They don't recruit they select. They have lottery picks and National Championship banners to sell and the comparison to Fenway is spot on when you speak about Cameron. It's a fabulous venue to watch a basketball game.

Rebounding and taking the occasional charge is IMO about 50/50 position and " want to ".

You can't take too many charges you'll end up being carried off but you can take them occasionally and position is a big part of that.

The other part of rebounding many times is tenacity and just believing " it's my ball ".

I think that part of a players game comes long before he comes to college and it's very hard to develop that in a player if he doesn't have it by the time he's 18 years old.

just watch our players. they fall away from any contact. some of that is because we are not a very physical bunch. but they don't even stand their ground when they are in position, which frankly puts THEM in a spot where the foul could be charged to them.

It's a process :flushed:
Craftsman take time to build a house or a basketball program. In this case the plan has been delayed by the January 2016 blizzard which stifled all the creativity.

Duke - Rutgers in perspective. The Cameron project is 15,000 sf of new space for ticketing, lobby expansion and a hospitality area -- $20 million, all private money. That's part of a $250 million athletic campus upgrade, including the football stadium, again all with private donors (no bonds, no debt).
