Rutgers offers 2019 6-11 center Emmanuel Ugboh of Iowa Western CC.

I like it, sign him up. Gives us another 6’10”+ guy for the 2019 season to provide better height and center depth. Complements the roster nicely for the last scholarship.

Official team bio:

FRESHMAN SEASON: Emmanuel "Manny" Ugboh returns his sophomore season as the only returning starter off last season's team that reached the NJCAA Region XI title game. The 6'11 Nigerian's freshman campaign was a very productive one. Ugboh started in all 32 games of the 2017-18 season; averaging 6.2 ppg, shooting a team high 62.8% from the floor, and was second on the team in rebounding at 6.0 rpg for a Reiver team that had 7 players move on to compete at the NCAA D1 or D2 level this upcoming fall. Manny's efforts earned him NJCAA All-Region XI honors, and an invite to the elite 2018 Jerry Mullen's "Juco Top 100" camp this summer.

High School: Ugboh attended and competed at the well respected and known Quality Education Academy in Winston Salem, NC. While in Winston Salem, Manny averaged 8 points per contest, grabbing 9 rebounds per game, and made his presence known of the defensive end as well erasing 4 blocks per contest. While playing for coach Isaac Pitts' basketball program he gained valuable experience as the prep academy played in over 70 contests during his time there.

He wasn't getting a ton of minutes (15 per game) but it seems he was on a veteran-laden team. High FG% indicates all his attempts came from right at the rim, probably. Poor free-throw shooter (53%) although he did an okay job of drawing fouls. He fouled out five times himself which is worrisome. His rebounding numbers were limited by the presence of teammate Isaiah Wade, a forward who averaged 10 per game and transferred to a power-conference team, although the worst one in the country (Washington State).

My first read is he seems like Candido Sa except his "strength" is offense, not defense - low ceiling guy who can give you some okay minutes. Remember that Sa led JUCO in blocks and then wasn't much of an impact guy here. Worth monitoring how he does this year. I assume (hope) the offer isn't currently committable and the staff plans to monitor how he does this season. That fact that he at least has an Ole Miss offer makes me feel better (at least it isn't a Souf situation).

Candido Sa was 6’9” though, not 6’11”. This guy would only take up a scholly for 2 years, I’d be fine with adding him for depth, at a minimum.

This is an interesting offer...with doorson graduating , it msy imply that one or both of doucoure or carter future minutes are st the four spot

Big boy. Looks like Yinka. Seems like a bit of a project, but most bigs are. Like someone said above, finishes strong through contact. Seems pretty mobile for his size. Needs to stop putting the ball on the floor though at the next level. Keep it high big fella! Keep it high!

Yes, I am worried about Carter. And Sa was okay - serviceable. Mensah was a big whiff.
Having said that, Eugene O and Geo have been great.

Don’t know much about this kid but Sa was a disappointment. We supposedly beat Texas out for him. He looked like he should have been so much better than he was, he didn’t improve in two years here, and he would just disappear in games.

Sa took time to develop and adjust but he was really solid as last year went on. In the big ten tournament, he even played with a hurt shoulder.

You guys have no idea how big of a get this would be. Look at the 2019 roster. Omoyuri and Baker are upper classmen and will probably be elite players by then.. Doucoure, Harper, Mathis, all top 150 recruits, will get another year under their belts and start really acting like top 150 players. Thiam and Shaq Carter are seniors. Not to mention Kiss and McConnell. Oh and we add top 150 player Mulcahy and top 100 player Jacob Young (remember him) to the team. Seriously, this is an NCAA team. Do you know what stops that? If we lose a big man to injury. We are too thin there. We get Ugboh, and make sure your schedule is free in March of 2020.

He looks very difficult to defend in the post and he's smooth. Never sure about the competition he's playing against but he looks polished. If we knew for sure what Myles Johnson and Shaq Carter were all about; it would be helpful but we don't know for sure. This kid looks like a much better player then Sa on the video. I'm intrigued. Older kids like this can be more physically ready for the Big 10 schedule.

Always amazed me how a kid who can present that kind of mismatch inside only averages 6.2 ppg. while shooting 62% from the field. I'd have gotten him the ball inside at least 20 time per game. Reminds me of the line - "who's the only one who can hold Michael Jordan under 20 ppg? Answer - Dean Smith.

By the matchups for one on one, which are usually set up for players competing for position, or minutes, it seems likely Carter may back up Eugene Omoyuri. That is fine as it does not seem like he is a miss. Omoyuri is a becoming a great player. Remember his game against Seton Hall? That stomp sent a message to the Hall players. He easily could have ripped that Hall players head off after that dirty foul. Instead, he won the game which hurt them more.
