Rutgers Opens at -5.5 vs WSU

Seems fair to me. Hard to take away THAT much from the Norfolk game. This one will be more telling from a national perspective due to the P5 matchup.

They lost to Portland State for gosh sakes and aaecplaying at our place. I would have figured about 7.

We're the home team. With them losing to a 1aa, I would have thought RU -10 or so at least.

How many times does it take people to realize that the transitive property doesn't work in sports. They will move the ball easily. The outcome will depend on how often our D bends but doesn't break and our ability to run the ball...

No they won't and there is no way they are stopping our o.

It's hard to pass when you don't have the ball and when you do you are running for your life. We will control both lines and the game. They will score a couple times but we will score many more.

WSU has a lot to fix on a short week with a cross country trip. Expect them to play better but if they can not pass block it shhould be at least at 10 point win.

Yea I know transitive property doesn't work in sports. But we're talking about a 3-9 FCS team who gave up an average of 34 points and 400 yards last year mainly to FCS competition. I don't care how you slice it that was a horrendous loss, WSU scored 17 points. I have said it before if your basing your prediction on last years game you are sorely mistaken. Connor Haliday is not walking through the door next week and in Leach's system that's the only part that matters.

I read somewhere they broke an NCAA scoring record with their new quarterback last year.

Interesting since he only played in three games last year. Holiday got hurt during the USC game.

He also left near the end of the game with an injury.

Not so sure what the take is on the QB then other than their offense is still respected with us only 5.5 points favored.

This game will be a good learning curve for our secondary. Assuming we win it by controlling the offensive side of the ball with the run, and with Turay and Hamilton in as well as Carroo and company playing the whole game, the LBs and DBs will get some good work in. And I really want this win.

Really ?
WSU was a 31 point favorite at home against Portland State (3-9 in FCS last year ) and lost by seven.
RU was a 35 point favorite vs. Norfolk State and won by 50 points.
The Cougars are a down team right now and their QB situation shaky. If RU has both Hamilton and Turay playing this game ain't even close. RU by 17 points.

Not that I think it's the end all and predictive....but I've seen some stuff that says it's RU -10 now . Probably taking into account the game results and the questionable status of the WSU QB.

I don't understand what the people see who moved the line toward WSU. WSU essentially just lost to a D-2 team, we spanked a D-2 team, and they are traveling 3,000 miles to play in our building. What am I missing? Is this based on perception alone?

Lol...again, our DBs are so green that they will be dinking and dunking their way down the field. It's bend but don't break. We'll see if our D can hold up. I'm surprised at the sudden bravado of this board.

Wsu was looking forward to RU and did not take care of business. They must rebound this week so we should expect their best which may just be good enough.

Let me add that if Norfolk could actually protect their QB just a little more, he would have thrown for 300+ yards easy. He had guys open all over the field.

I still believe WSU could hang 40 on us, and we still win.....if their qb has the time, he will throw for that 300 plus yardage.

the best way for us to negate that is time consuming drives ourselves...

We finally dominated a team that we should have by hanging 63 points. We finally didn't play to the level of our competition and get in a dog fight. Rutgers beats WSU by 17 minimum

WSU put up over 400 yards, won the time of possession, but failed to turn all that offense into points. I wouldn't want to hang my hopes on that performance. JUST as RU has to make adjustments during the week, so does WSU. This game is against a team that will throw the ball 60 times if they have the chance. I hope the secondary matures really quickly and the front seven can apply some severe pressure on the QB.

Yes - but RU still gave up 200 yds and 2TDs passing in 27 minutes possession (with longs of 35 and 29) to a sacrificial lamb team who you knew would be passing a lot. Washington is known a passing team and RU is currently known as having sketchy pass defense. Rutgers dominated score but some weakness is seen
