Rutgers quarterback preview for 2024: Competition heats up. Will the offense?

If the new guy isn't head and shoulders above Gavin is there really any reason to think it will?

well you would assume every player is getting better each season so even if GW is the QB, one would expect some improvement
Also, with a better receiving corps, including the ones who stayed, namely, Dremel, Long and Strong (returning), and Miller and Brantley (transfers in). Perhaps too, KJ Duff (freshman) may contribute. The TE position still seems to be a question mark.

Let's hope...

He doesnt need to be head and shoulders better. He needs to be just better imo. Without stretching the field, being able to complete routine passes consistently, and having the ability to dissect a defense/progress through reads, our offense suffered.

Yeah, GW or the new guy, I think QB play will be better. GW was a lot better at the end of last season than at the start. Not good enough, but getting there. With a new competitor, he will work even harder to improve even faster in the off-season.

So he will be better and, if the new guy wins the job, he’ll have to be that much better than an improved GW.

I’m more concerned with WR and TE than QB when it comes to the passing game next season. We need a couple/few guys who can dynamically adjust routes when needed, and who will fight for and win the ball in tight space. That will make the QBs more confident, which helps them throw earlier with less worry about INTs.

If the receivers don’t improve a lot over last season, then it won’t much matter who the QB is; their numbers will suck because they will have to throw late, avoid throwing into tight coverage, and throw the ball away a lot.
