Rutgers Track and Field in Big Ten Championships

Updates during first day of competition:

Rutgers' Sincere Robinson wins Big Ten championship in men's long jump with a jump of 25'6"... A'nan Bridgett, who has the longest indoor jump in the conference this season, evidently isn't competing in the meet.

RU's Justin Cornetta and Alexandra Carlson have both qualified for the men's and women's mile finals. (10 athletes from prelims qualified for final).

Nadale Buntin and Dennisha Page have both qualified for the men's and women's 60m dash finals. (9 athletes from prelims qualified for final), and Nadale Buntin has also qualified for the men's 200m final (8 athletes from prelims qualified for final)

Kassidy Johnson has qualified for the women's 800m final (8 athletes from prelims qualified for final)

Sincere Robinson captures long jump gold to give #RUTF back-to-back conference champions in the event. The sophomore standout hit 7.77m (25’ 6”) on his first jump to dominate the field.

Chloe Timberg wins B1G women's pole vault with vault of 14' 7.5", breaking her own indoor school record of 14' 5.5".. Way to go Chloe! Chloe's winning vault in the competition was 10.5 inches higher than the second place athlete's best vault.

Kristina Tossas wins gold in the long jump!
CLUTCH!!! Her best jump this season had her ranked 11th in the B1G going into the championships, and 2 other Rutgers women jumpers had longer jumps than her during the season... Her winning jump of 20' 9.25" is almost 14 inches better than her previous best going into the championship meet of 19' 7.5".

The mark also puts her 16th on the NCAA list, keep your fingers crossed she gets into the national meet!

It looks like freshman Chris Serrao also made it into the finals for the 60 hurdles! Go Chris!

I noticed that Rutgers "Did Not Finish" in the men's distance medley, and that Penn State was disqualified. Does anyone know if Penn State's violation had anything to do with RU not being able to finish the race, like if they cut our runner off, interfered with our handoff, etc? Or were the two totally independent of each other? I wasn't able to watch the live stream on BTN+ so I didn't see the race.

Buntin takes 5th in the Men’s 60 meters in 6.72… one one-hundredth from fourth place. Currently, RU Men in 9th place. Women in 5th place with strong showings in field events.

A few other Saturday results so far that involved RU athletes scoring points:

Sincere Robinson, who won the long jump Friday, finished in a 4 way tie for 6th place in the high jump, jumping 6' 9"..

In the men's mile final which was relatively slow and strategic (with a winning time of 4:13.03) , RU's Justin Cornetta finished in 6th place, running 4:15.30. The first and second place athletes in the race had season bests going into the championships of 3:55 and 3:56 respectively.

In the women's mile, RU's Alexandra Carlson took the runner up spot with a time of 4:36.75, finishing only behind Illinois' Olivia Howell.

As new jersey1 mentioned above, Nadale Buntin took 5th in the men's 60 in 6.72.

Dennisha Page finished 8th in the women's 60 with a time of 7.42.

Kassidy Johnson had an impressive performance in the women's 800, finishing 3rd with a time of 2:04.36. Her previous best was 2:05.75.

Great job by RU freshman Chris Serrao to finish 3rd in the men's 60 hurdles in 7.74. Chris had a season best of 7.95 going into the championships, qualified for the final by running 7.84 in the prelims, and took third place in the final with another season best of 7.74..

And Nadale Buntin wins the men's 200 in 20.73!

With 2 events left to go for the men, and 6 events remaining for the women, the RU men are in 10th place with 34.5 points, and the RU women are in 8th place with 35 points. (Last year the RU women finished tied for 10th with 30 points, and the RU men finished 11th with 24 points.) With a handful of RU athletes still to compete today, both RU teams have already exceeded their scores from last year.

Go RU!

Thanks for the update. Was watching the Women’s 800 and lost the stream as Johnson was making her move at around 600 meters. Great performance by her. Do you know if Carlson’s best time of 4:31 coming into this meet was the fastest this season in the B1G?
