With less than 2 weeks until Battle At The Birthplace Part Deux, I think it's time to make some predictions for the upcoming opening match. On paper, this should be a complete mismatch in RU's favor, as we should win at least 8 of 10 matches.

125: Suriano TF to start his RU career, RU 5-0
133: DelVecchio MD, RU 9-0
141: MVB Win, RU 12-0
149: DeLuca vs Bannister. Will Bannister stall the whole time? RU 12-3
157: Lewis TF win, RU 17-3
165: JVB Win, RU 20-3
174: Pagano MD, RU 24-3
184: Gravina Win, RU 27-3
197: Mulligan Win, RU 30-3
HVY: Gross vs Hemida. I'd love to see Ray pull this out, but Hemida is really good. RU wins 30-6.

doubt you will see Bannister, maybe next semester.

Here's my two cents. Definite wins at 125, 149, 157, 184. Probable wins at 133, 174 and 197. Toss ups at 141,165. Long shot at HWT. Best case could win all 10. Worst case 6-4.

125: Suriano Major or pin, RU 4-0
- Brandon Cray for Maryland is pretty good (2x Jersey State Champ) redshirted last year.

133: DelVecchio Win RU 7-0
-If it is Tyler Goodwin, he is tough and beat a ranked Jamal Morris NC State last year. Regular decision.

141: MVB loses close high scoring match RU 7-3
-Ryan Diehl is legit. NCAA qualifier. He beat ranked Tommy Thorn, Jimmy Gulibon and Topher Carton last year.

149: DeLuca wins if Bannister is out. 10-3

157: Lewis TF win, RU 15-3

165: JVB Win, RU 18-3
-If it is Josh Ugalde, he seems to have regressed after a great freshman year (beat Pagano). Toss up and depends on how JVB handles the bigger weight class. They probably will bump up Justin Alexander who beat JVB last year. Then may bump Ugalde to 174.

174: Pagano Win RU 21-3
Pagans beats Ugalde this time around

184: Gravina Win MD RU 25-3
No clue who goes for Maryland

197: Mulligan Win, RU 28-3
Not sure who goes for Maryland here

HVY: Gross Loss RU 28-6 (my gut says Ray pulls it out but can't pull the trigger on it)
Good early test for Ray. Hemida is good.

Id take DeLuca over Bannister(if he was eligible)

125 Suriano pin 6-0
133 Delvecchio Major 10-0
141 MVB Win 13-0
149 Deluca Win 16-0
157 Lewis Tech 21-0
165 JVB Win 24-0
174 Pagano Win 27-0
184 Gravina Major 31-0
197 Mulligan Win 34-0
HWT: Gross Loss 34-3

Wrestlestats has it 28-6 RU. They have RU losing at 141 which I agree and HWT (to me this is winnable for RU). Whisler is the 197 for Maryland (he split with Correnti last year and majored Correnti in his win) and I think he beats Mulligan..I see 3 wins for Maryland..141, 197 and HWT..but I can certainly see 197/HWt going RU way

Hopefully it stays dry for the wrestling match...because I don't know how I will get from my tailgating lot to the RAC in a short amount of time...

Anyone know if temperature will be an indoor/outdoor factor?

It looks to be in the mid-to-upper 50's at match time.

Last year Goodale said the only way they'd move the match indoors is if it rains or snows.

I'll take a stab:

125: Suriano wins by pin - RU 6-0
133: Delvecchio scores a bunch of points and wins by TF - RU 11-0
141: MVB wins a close one - RU 14-0
149 Deluca wins by major - RU 18-0
157 Lewis wins by major - RU 22-0
165 JVB wins by major - RU 26-0
174 Pagano wins by pin - RU 32-0
184 Gravina win, but not a major - RU 35-0
197 Mulligan wins a close one - RU 38-0
HWT: Gross loses a close one and MD avoids the shutout 38-3

I see only 3 bouts that are toss-ups - 141, 197 and HWT and I think RU has the slight advantage at 141 and 197.

I come here to learn as I know very little about wrestling
The only thing I know about wrestling is from watching my often ranked undergrad school Cornell

All I can say reading the projected scores vs Maryland is
holy cow
we are legitimately a wrestling power
Makes me proud !!

Unless the whole starting lineup gets food poisoning on Friday night, RU will mop the floor with MD in wrestling on Saturday.

Appears Maryland wrestling Cranford NJ native Niko Capello at 197 tomorrow (wrestled all his matches last year at 174) and Josh Ugalda at 174. That would change my team score to 32-6 for RU. That would be 4 NJ starters for Maryland.

If they are trying to convince NJ HS wrestlers to come to MD by having them get slaughtered by RU, more power to them.

I don't know that Maryland is a good measuring stick, especially when two of their better wrestlers won't be participating. They have been awful for a few years now. It's sort of like if you don't drub Maryland, it's going to be a long, long season. Last year, for example, Maryland won one match against Penn State (133) and got pinned in 5 consecutive matches (not shameful, in that it was the 5 eventual NCs) in losing 45-6.

Gotta beat Iowa this year. Then the "power" word can be used.
