Rutgers - Wisconsin Game Thread

He might struggle in CYO ball. Nice kid but outclassed at this level. We have so many holes in our defense I don't know where to start and it is just not being undersized.

Biggest takeaway is Rutgers plays terrible defense

Have to like another strong performance by Grier unfortunately no one else..Williams came out strong but faded. Not going to win giving up 42 to Wisky in a half

I've been saying this until I'm blue in the face: It doesn't take a lot of talent to play good defense. To move your feet. To block out and to get over screens instead of going under, which we seem to do all of the time. That's coaching. Talent on the offensive side is another matter, which right now we lack. But not playing tough defense is inexcusable. And that's on Eddie. Sorry Eddie, but you've spent too much time in the NBA where defense is a dirty word until they get to the playoffs.

It is not that we are just terrible we do not try. It takes effort to get over screens , we have to get up on their shooters and force them to put it on the floor. None of the guards are trying to be disruptive. Again, Eddie or the assistants must demand it, tell it, reinforce it or whatever it takes. Unfortunately , I get the sense Eddie does not demand it enough and just wants them to move on and run the offense. Offensively, when run properly we will get an open look, a drive to the bucket or a back cut . Just make a better effort playing defense and rebounding and we can win this game going away

Actually I believe that being a good defender is more about desire and willingness than it is coaching.

Either you want to stop your man from scoring more than he wants to score, or you don't. In a nutshell that's what defense comes down to.

Defensive techniques and fundamentals can be taught by coaches, but if a player doesn't commit to being a good defender no level of coaching can change that.

At that point the player should just be benched.

In Rutgers case there's not enough scholarship players available to bench players who aren't defending properly.

But that "willingness" you talk about IS coaching. A good coach will get his players motivated to play tough hardnosed defense. It's something that we have lacked under EJ since he got here.

There you go 3-4 minutes if effort. Look how Grier gets up on his man. If DANIELS can just use his talent to do the same and actually go after a few rebounds the game becomes easier. 8-1 to start the half. Game is easily winnable.

So far the "effort" is being shown on the defensive side, which we did not see in the first half.

Excellent start to the 2nd half.

On another note, I've never seen a team fall down so often while dribbling.

Daniels can't even make a layup. Sad. Can't put the ball in the basket this half.

Now the Badgers are on a 9-2 run. Here is where we have faded in the past. Let's see if we can get this back with a run of our own.

With no frontcourt players to counter our opponents except for maybe Lewis and Foreman, we're kind of screwed the rest of the year. Let's hope that Freeman can get a redshirt.

Blowout city....when we bad...we really bad...oh welll played well for 10 minutes but fell back into same bad habits in a winnable game...Wisky is average and likely to miss the tourney this year

Lack of inside scoring haunting us, again.

Is it me or do we get called for a lot offensive fouls when driving to the basket?

Without our frontcourt, we will be lucky to upset someone at home this season in conference.

Guess not ... What is our record ATS on the road in B1G play?
