Rutgers Women's Soccer at Nebraska

Nebraska has also been getting away with a lot of physical play that gets called against us. Finally we get a makeup call.

Finally, #9 Dale gets a card. She earned that much earlier in the game.

Good tie. They dominated the 2nd half but we missed 3 goals and easily could've won.

Almost eked out a win but giving the ball away as soon as we touch it hurts us waaaay too much. I'll happily take a tie in this game, though.

I'm not a fan of that strategy. I want W's and they really need them.

The one thing that we can agree on is that Bodmer is going to be an excellent keeper over the next few seasons.
She had a rough start to the season but is definitely coming around!

How is a top d1 team this bad at passing

It's absurd
there are so many problems with this team it is stunning but real quick one of the problems with our passing is that our girls do not properly space themselves which many times leave no options for an open pass which in my mind is shocking but watch last nights game and watch the PSU game look at them there are always girls open because they spread themselves out and use the entire field just watch us we are crowded around the ball rarely rarely reverse the field and definitely hardly ever use the entire field there were 2 or 3 times last night when one of our girls were so open streaking down the wing and not even a look

yeah...for sure...it's particularly concerning when we try to play out of the back on the edges/wings.

but I am talking about a more BASIC issue...there were multiple times yesterday where one of our girls made a pass that didnt even come CLOSE to the girl she was targeting. And I am not talking about a Modric type pass. I am talking about a 5-10 yard pass...to feet...under NO PRESSURE. winning games is practically impossible when this happens...unless you are waaaay better than the other team athletically.

One of the reasons Nebraska was practically at a turkey shoot, is we would PASS THE FKNG BALL TO THEM IN OUR OWN END UNDER NO PRESSURE again and again. I repeat what I have been saying for 3 years...I have never seen this before at any decent level of soccer.

I dont want to start singling out individual players...but when you try to play out of the back, and 80% of your defense and midfield can't connect a pass consistently, you're screwed. and this happens CONSISTENTLY. MO tried to address it at half time by saying the girls needed to find feet, but wow...just wow.

these deficiencies were there when this team was blowing the rest of the B1G away, but we were just so much more talented than virtually every team we played. now, our girls need to play to win games...and we're struggling.

short of an injection of better players, and an absolute focus on keeping the ball (its clearly not important to MO), I dont see this getting fixed any time soon. we'll have to continue to rely on individual moments of brilliance...both offensively and defensively.

Agreed 100% and the short goal kick led to a giveaway and to Nebraska's 2nd goal and like you said I don't know how many times we went to a short kick and gave the ball away but forget just the short kicks like you said we just can't complete passes soccer 101 which just amazes me and the other thing like I said previously Amirah with her speed overcame a lot of our deficiencies on offense as we basically would utilize that long pass and let her catch up to it and now we have no one with her speed and we cannot do the through ball and as was stated we have trouble connecting on passes
Another troubling thing to me last night was why is Riley playing midfield and not forward and also Sam was playing left back are we that bad with Becky and Emma!!

Good analysis. I've made the same point re: passes, ad infinitum. In addition we keep trying long passes that rarely connect.

I watched about 15 minutes in the 2nd Half. It seemed like the ball was in Rutgers end for almost the entire time.
We were!
I watched the entire second half and while I’m not well versed in soccer strategy, I know it’s more difficult to be scored on 50 yards from your goal, rather than making lateral passes and chips directly to the opponents!
Get it out, maybe you get a bounce.
To use a football term, make them go the length of the field

No expert on soccer here, but RU players looked a bit tired, Nebraska faster, maybe more athletic?

I'm no soccer maven. It seemed to me Nebby was a lot quicker and RU's attempts to move the ball forward were constantly intercepted near midfield while Nebby's passing was very good. Thankfully they just couldn't finish.

Romano has been mostly playing there with Misal injured, but she also got injured early in the game and never returned.

he had Cain there (freshman) for part of the game...but he clearly favored Sam down the stretch

I dont think Riley is comfortable at all as a 10/midfielder...I'd rather take my chances with another formation and keep her up top...in fact, I might say to her to try and take girls on more 1v1 than she has been. sure, it will lead to more double/triple teams...but the way she's been used this year is simply not getting the most out of her.

We are SLOW other than Kroeger and a couple others. Same story different year.
Girman is fast, and she probably gets the most goal scoring opportunities on the team (weird for a backup) but just can’t finish any of them.
