Rutgers Women's Soccer vs. No. 4 Penn State

This to me either makes or brakes the season as far as the path this team takes after this game; we win it can turn our season around and we lose it will I think keep us in this bad spiral we are in so lets hope for a win

We’ll the sound system absolutely sucks you can’t even hear the public address announcer

This game just highlights how bad we are and it all starts with the coach and coaching staff. This game is like watching women against girls!!
We are completely outclassed in every aspect of the game there girls are bigger stronger faster have way more skill we can’t even possess the ball for more than 2 passes frankly it should be at least 4-0
Will add more later

The talent and speed differential is glaring unfortunately

This game is not about the coaching. It is about the poor skill level at too many positions. Earlier in the year I posted that we had glaring weaknesses & was roundly booed. We still do. I also posted that I wasn't sure at all that this was a Tournament team & was roundly booed. Still not at all convinced that it is.
Nalia Schofenberger has absolutely no clue about where the ball is going off her foot.
Giana Romano is no Emma Misal at outside D- too many errors.
Gia Vicari plays very soft.
Allie Post is not strong or decisive on the ball.
As dentist said, after an easy pass or two we can't connect on a third.
Our bench is not particularly strong.
We are not particularly fast as a team.

If Misal & Becci Fluchel were able to play it would have helped quite a bit.

I hope that I am wrong but I really don't see the potential to clean this up. Hope the girls prove me all wrong in the 2nd half.

“Poor skill level” = COACHES

You know I appreciate your insight BUT stop making excuses for him!

So far not a chance to prove you wrong but this coaching because they are the ones who do the recruiting and our recruiting has been piss poor for 3 years now

0-2 In conference play. I honestly don’t mind tonight after getting dominated the 1st, and then coming back in the second like that, however, the Indiana loss is still inexcusable.

Why this team doesn't bring it in the 1st half is beyond me.
Dad we did up our intensity in the second half but the talent disparity is just too great. We still couldn’t string together passes in the attacking zone our spacing is terrible there basically is no one open for the girls to make passes even our goal was a great individual play by Sam.
Before the game started when the teams were lined up I said to my daughter look at the size difference between us and PSU
This all starts with recruiting and if we keep recruiting like this we are going to continue to be a mediocre team
One more thing I just remembered is one of the reasons we can’t keep possession is we are always trying to make a long pass which is a very low percentage play which often times leads to a turnover
Add more tomorrow

We struggle to connect any passes. Have for a few years now.

Yup with Amirah our offense was send a long ball and hope she beats the defense and that worked somewhat for 5 years with her now we have no one near her speed or talent and we have no offense
If you read the article at the front of Rivals the writer even states how PSU connected on passes and we of course could not
We may win 2-3 more games the rest of the year
The major problem going forward is that because of O’Neills past success he of course is going to get a free pass from Hobbs and as some have stated I hope we don’t become mediocre like other sports here have before a change is made there is way too much talent out there
One other thing I didn’t mention about last night’s game that I actually forgot to mention was as bad as we got outplayed both goals were on Bodmer
The first was a nice ball but like a corner kick she should have come out and played that ball like a corner kick and punched it way
The second goal while a great shot was literally 1 foot next to her and she just stood there and watched it go right by her the only thing we could think was that she was so close to the post that she thought it was going wide so not a good game by her other than that she didn’t have to make a hard save the rest of the night

Sounds like recruiting issues, no?

I was debating with my son on the first goal. I also thought she should have come out...but he didnt

upon seeing the other angles, i am not sure she could have come out...but, she should have done better with handling the volley

the team just looks disjointed and defeated

something's not right

In fairness to Olivia she is a young goalie who is watching a lot of errors happening in front of her and doesn’t have the luxury of doing the correct thing she has to be 100 percent reactive.
Think back on the first six possessions Peyton went around the left outside back over and over and lofted a soft cross.
This defense makes a lot of errors

But we were spoiled mad, like her or not, Meg came in ready from day one as she played five years on age appropriate national teams. Liv will be fine. Holding that team to two goals is to me Herculean.

Also the beneficiary of the long passing pre 2021 or maybe 2020 was Nneka Moneme who ran really well carrying the ball

But no sense beating up on the girls as rudad is correct we , individually, lack the size, foot speed, ball skills of top opponents

Currently penn st 4, Princeton 12, Georgetown 14. Indiana may get ranked this week

No excuses for Hofstra or nc state

my point was to be a bit more nuanced...hopefully didnt come across as beating her up.

I have said for a while this defense is a mess.

I will keep repeating that I have NEVER seen soccer at this level where passes are so bad. at all 3 levels...defense, midfield and attack. It is to the point where I am more surprised we connect on a give and go, then when we dont connect.

and when we dont connect, the pass is >5 yards off.

I literally have never seen anything like this before.

Sorry not directed to you but generally these threads are filled with comments on individuals and that was my thought
