Rutgers Wrestling ---- BigTen Tournament / Championship Sunday Updates & Results

Whoopdedamndo. Great tournament for AA. The big prize awaits.
Do you even know about college wrestling? If not let me clue you in. Not only is this the toughest tournament in the nation but most of these kids you see in the finals will be placing top four in their respective weight classes. Hell kids taking top 5 have a good of a shot to AA in this tournament. So yes winning this tournament is a huge deal.

HWT: Michael Kroells (MINN) outlasts Billy Smithin tiebreakers, 4-1.

Smith ends in fourth

Smitty needs to shake that off and psyche up for NCAAs. he's still very capable of making the podium.

10 out of 10 placers, 9 AQs with a possible 10th at large. 8 guys wrestle to their seed or better. Only Lewis (3rd to 5th, with very little separating him and the 3rd and 4th finishers) and Perrotti (4th to 6th but due to injury) placed lower than seed. Giraldo goes from 10th to 6th and steals a bid, and Dippery goes from unseeded to 6th and steals a bid from a very crowded 149 that only had 6 AQs to start with.

Ashnault is the 1st B1G champ in team history, a team that came in 5th above Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota. In fact they more than doubled Minnesota's score.

Great tournament. now let's see what the kids can do in New York.

Yes I do and I guess you misinterpreted my whoopdedamndo. That wasn't meant to disparage Ashnault's accomplishment- I guess it was a poor attempt to celebrate it.

On the other hand, Billy Smith was just being Billy Smith.Maybe there's a positive surprise that he's been saving for his farewell.

I don't think you understand when to use "whoopdedamndo"

Just got back from my niece's baby's baptism in Hackettstown, luckily my brother is a wrestling fan as well, so he put the Finals up on his 75 inch nice Hi def TV, but without sound as there were about 50 guests. I was ecstatic to see Anthony Ashnault not only win, but in such fairly easy bout, so not a lot of anxiety. Sorry I wasn't able to contribute with the updates, but I figured since the finals were on BTN TV most would be watching on their own anyway.

It's also awesome RU qualified 9 our to 10 for the Nationals, and maybe even all 10 if Sean McCabe gets an out large bid. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for AP to recover enough to be close to 100 per cent. I'm hoping to go to at least one day (Friday Mar 18) maybe even Saturday as well. PS- I can't find the RU Wrestling Tee shirt site for the Nationals, did they sell them out ?

Hat's off to all our great fans as well.

Looking at the auto qualifiers for 125, McCabe has a decent chance at a bid.
There are 5 bids available. David Terao (American), Zeke Moisey (WVU, MF out of the 7/8 match), Shakur Laney (Ohio), Vito Pasone (Appy St) and McCabe are the top 5 by RPI. Other notables are: Dalton Macri (Cornell), Thornton (Purdue), Rogaliner (Mich St), Kyle Akins (Buffalo).

Any Monday morning update on Perrotti? Praying for the kid. Hope it's a better situation than it looked.

Yeah, I looked at that first-team B1G picture and the first thing I noticed was Martinez and his bright orange jumpsuit. Nolf pinned him earlier in the year, so I was a bit curious how that finals matchup would go.

In the post match interview IMart said he was gearing up for the rematch since the day after Nolf beat him, and it certainly showed. He also said he expects to see him again in 2 weeks. Kid has a great personality.

That wasn't a match, it was a war. What an intense college sports moment that was. $$$$

absolutely! imart vs nolf was a great match. looking forward to seeing it again in couple weeks!

157 seeding just got a lot more difficult. Gannt NCSt and Miller Kent St are both undefeated. Nolf and Miller only lost once to each other. then throw in Joe Smith OSU and Palacio Cornell. Minotti being injured is 1 small reprieve. Richie might find his way to the podium but bracket luck is going to be a major factor.
