I realized so many of our guys say this and it literally never happens.. and all the killers rarely talk bout winning… Angelo, Barr, Mesenbrink, in all their interviews they just talk bout is getting better and improving and w.e happens happens.""I want that national title before I’m done, and I promise I’m gonna get it."" Another obligatory statement? I'd like to think he could do it, but it's a high hill to climb.
Turley said much the same before or early in the season. There's nothing wrong with having goals, and even better yet, when they have the drive to accomplish them. However, they look silly when they just say it and don't follow up with the effort and commitment required. I don't know if any of Peterson, Shawver, or Turley are capable of winning a NC, but I'm pretty sure it won't happen if they have periods of slacking off. We all know the level of seriousness and commitment required to win at that level, and relatively few dedicate themselves to that degree. I've watched Bassett's daily routine with amazement and wondered how many could keep up that level of commitment.I realized so many of our guys say this and it literally never happens.. and all the killers rarely talk bout winning… Angelo, Barr, Mesenbrink, in all their interviews they just talk bout is getting better and improving and w.e happens happens.
I think Peterson has the best shot as he’s beaten Ramos before so he’s capable of locking in but struggles to do it consistently.. gotta see how b10 goes.. Turley.. 0% the top 3 in his class are way too strong… Shawver, thing is all year he’s been promising bout being a NC but taken a step back… the problem with this kinda goal is it puts a lot of unnecessary pressure on urself.. and when you do take a Loss it can cause a big confidence loss….Turley said much the same before or early in the season. I think Starocci is the only one who talks about winning.I realized so many of our guys say this and it literally never happens.. and all the killers rarely talk bout winning… Angelo, Barr, Mesenbrink, in all their interviews they just talk bout is getting better and improving and w.e happens happens.

I was thinking his Twitter activity starts with Natty Daddy (which he apparently has been threatened with legal action by Anheuser Busch over the use of.)"I want to dominate guys" - Carter Starocci reveals main reason behind his fifth-year return

He doesn’t say his main reason to return is 5th NC… it’s to dominate guys… same killer mindset as Gable.. that’s scary lol
Having goals are great, you misunderstand.. I was just pointing out an observation how most of our guys have results driven goals.. become x but this could be putting unnecessary pressure on themselves, the same pressure you said Poz was getting unfairly due to a lucky year. I was just pointing out process driven goals seem to work better.. kinda like a fixed mindset vs growth mindset..Some of you guys are so literal that’s it’s wild. Personally I think Rutgers should recruit guys who say “my goal is to not be a national champion.”
On what planet is it bad for guys who have been in the top 1% of wrestlers they’ve encountered to dream about being national champions? At the end of the day there are hundreds of kids who wrestle D1 at each weight class, thousands overall. If you’re ranked in the top whatever, winning a national title is so close that it would be stupid to not set that as a goal. Yeah, Turley is not winning a national title this year, but there’s nothing wrong with him doing whatever he can to get there. If he were to come out and say “yeah my goal is to finish 12th” you guys would be losing your minds.
It's all great if the person works toward it with actions that match; otherwise, it's delusional or insincere at a minimum. SCNJ never gets it; he's a cheerleader. "but there’s nothing wrong with him doing whatever he can to get there" No there isn't, but he's not, and that's the issue.Having goals are great, you misunderstand.. For what it’s worth they ended the season ranked 11th.The season started with talk of elevating program into top 10. some things haven't really aligned with that kind of finish but that seems ti be the standard Coach wants. Looks like 3 guys with legit shit to AA but I could see another 1 or 2 making a run. Hopefully everyone will be healthy(ish) for post season
Aren’t we on some streak of having at least 2 AA every year? And I do think we got a chance at a champ this year but yeah it’s not likely though. For what it’s worth they ended the season ranked 11th.
They are a better dual team than a tournament team on paper, especially now without Poz, so I would expect a finish around 20-25 in the tournament scoring (which I’ve said numerous times is a pointless exercise). They won’t have a champion and might only have 1-2 AA’s which is about where they’ve been for a few years.
Progress isn’t a straight line. I think this years dual results, particularly beating Illinois and hanging neck and neck with Ohio St was indicative that the team is still trending in the right direction despite what some naysayers might say.
Unfortunately the streak was broken in 2023. But Rutgers has had 2 or more AAs 7 of the last 8 tournaments.Aren’t we on some streak of having at least 2 AA every year? And I do think we got a chance at a champ this year but yeah it’s not likely though.
7/8 years of having 2+AA isn’t bad and it’s def pretty consistent…. Not sure what Goodale meant when he said he wanted us to become a top 10 team… did he mean a dual meet team or a top 10 performance at NCAA or some mixture of both…Unfortunately the streak was broken in 2023. But Rutgers has had 2 or more AAs 7 of the last 8 tournaments.
As for this year, I have them with 1 or 2 AAs and scoring in the 25 (Flo) to 27 (Intermat) point range which puts them in the 21 - 22 range for finish.
