With RU mens and womens hoops both on fire and RU Men's Lax about to start another season that hopefully leads to an NCAA berth, it is easy to forget that RU has 2 big wrestling matches this week vs an excellent Nebraska team and IMO the best Princeton team in decades. I think Nebraska will be a bad matchup for RU and we might only win with our Big 2 of Ashnault and Suriano, while Princeton terrifies me this year. At Jadwin I would predict an L as a team. Here goes:

Nebraska:

125 Metzler MD Loss to Moisey, Neb 4-0
133 Suriano MD Win, Tied 4-4
141 Lipari Loss to Chad Red, Neb 7-4
149 Ashnault MD Win, RU 8-7
157 JVB Loss to Berger, Neb 10-8
165 Glasgow Loss to White, Neb 13-8
174 Grello Loss, Neb 16-8
184 Gravina Loss to Venz, Neb 19-8
197 Correnti Loss, Neb 22-8
HVY Collucci Win, Neb 22-11 Final

Princeton:

125 Metzler MD Loss to Glory, PU 4-0
133 Suriano TF Win, RU 5-4
141 Lipari Loss, PU 7-5
149 Ashnault vs Kolodzik. The next time these two battle will be in March in the NC. Ash wins a thriller at the RAC. RU 8-7
157 JVB Win, RU 11-7
165 Glasgow Win, RU 14-7
174 Grello Loss, RU 14-10
184 Gravina Win, RU 17-10
197 Correnti MD Loss to Brucki, RU 17-14
HVY Collucci Win, RU 20-14 Final.

What does 184 look like without Gravina or Scott?

If it is a regular decision for Princeton, the score with your predictions is 17-17

I think Glory tech falls Metzler.

I would like to see how our guys do at 141, 197 and 285 against Nebbie. These are the only matches where there could be any kind of upset. If nothing else happens we win 2 matches.

You are right with Princeton and if we lose 149 then we need a 141 and 174 to come out on top. I'm not sure Gravina goes and if he does I don't think he wins. They are very evenly matched with him banged up and it doesn't look good. Afraid to say we are looking at a possible 0-2 this weekend. JVB needs a big weekend.

Our youth program is attending the Nebraska match. Any tips on besides making sure they pay attention?

I agree Obrats. I see us dropping both. Ashnault has such a big match for seeding in March. Need this W bad. Grello should win against the tigers. He already beat him at Midlands. Need Bonus at HWT! And I agree. Glory is a 5/6 points for them.

I don’t think the Ash/Kolodzik match matters much for seeding. Ash has beaten Micah and Gfeller. Micah has beaten O'Connor. Kolodzik has beaten O’Connor and Gfeller. If Ash loses he stays at #2. Micah is still 3, Gfeller is 4, O’Connor is 5. Ash has nothing to lose other than his perfect record and NJRTC bragging rights. A win at 149 is crucial for winning the dual, though.

I think we lose both. We're just not very good this year as a dual team. Just more holes than solid spots. Good tournament team obviously but that's do to just two guys now. I was really hoping a third could push through but the way things are now I see that as a long shot.

No way. If he losses Kolodzik is assured seed1 and Ash still has to get threw the b1G unblemished.
If Ash wins and can win the B1G then he is top seed and has a much easier times getting to finals.

Ash has to get through the BIG tournament but this match has no bearing on that either way. He still is the number one seed there as he is undefeated against BIG opponents. If he beats Kolodzik and then loses at BIG he is in the same boat as he would be if he beat Kolodzik. Barring a crazy upset at BIG or multiple losses, if Ash loses to Micah at BIG, Kolodzik is one, Micah is two and Ash is three. As the three seed , if current seeds hold, he would wrestle Van der Mere then Mitch Finesilver in the quarters and then Micah in the semis. As the one seed he would wrestle Lugo, then Josh Heil in the quarters, then Gfeller in the semis. In this scenario, I’d prefer the three seed. But, my point is that because Ash has beaten the 3, 4 and 6th ranked wrestlers and the #4 (Gfeller) has lost to both Ash and Kolodzik, the #5 O’Connor has lost to Kolodzik, the #3 (Micah) and the #6 (Finesilver), Ash goes no lower than three for NCAA’s unless he takes multiple losses at the BIG. If that occurs he would and should drop.

I was going to wait until Goodale's presser to see who is wrestling 184 before making predictions, but I will just go with Oliveri, until I hear otherwise.

Using Intermat Dual Meet rankings:

#11 Nebraska at #13 Rutgers:

125- Metzlar vs # 16 Zeke Moisey. Moisey by Dec. While Metzlar not faring well against the top 10 guys, he's been holding the #10-20 guys to a decision.
Nebraska up 3-0

133- #4 Nick Suriano vs Jevon Parrish. Suriano by Tech Fall. Parrish is a true freshman , who has lost badly against any ranked opponent.
RU up 5-3

141- Peter Lipari vs #19 Chad Redd. Toss Up. I'll give Redd a close dec, but Lipari has a real shot of an upset here.
Nebraska up 6-5

149- #2 Anthony Ashnault vs Jordan Shearer. Ashnault by Tech Fall. Shearer has almost no quality wins.
RU up 10-6

157- #14 John Van Brill vs #2 Tyler Berger. Berger by a Dec. These 2 actually had a close match 9 months ago, w Berger winning 5-1.
RU up 10-9

165- Stephan Glasgow vs #6 Isaiah White. White by dec. Glasgow's knee seems is feeling better last few matches. Is quick enough to keep it to a decision.
Nebraska up 12-10

174-Joe Grello vs #9 Mikey Labriola. Labriola by dec. Grello has wrestled fairly well against good competition the past 5 weeks. This could be very close.
Nebraska up 15-10

184- Anthony Oliveri vs #8 Tyler Venz. Venz by Tech Fall. Wouldn't matter even if Gravina was going, just a matter of bonus or not.
Nebraska up 20-10

197- Matt Correnti vs #11 Eric Schutlz. Schultz by dec. Correnti was actually up before getting caught and pinned last match. Still, hard to pick against Schultz here, but Correnti has the talent for an upset.
Nebraska up 23-10

285-Chris Colluci vs #14 David Jensen. Toss up. I'll give Jensen a very close dec, but Colucci more than capable of winning a close decision.

Nebraska wins 26-10

#13 Rutgers vs #18 Princeton ( Princeton has been off almost a month, and then will wrestle a double header the day before RU, I think this scheduling quirk is an advantage for RU)

125- Shane Metzlar vs #10 Pat Glory. Glory by Major Dec, but wouldn't be surprised at home for Metz to keep it to a dec.
Princeton up 4-0

133- #4 Nick Suriano vs Jon Gomez. Suriano by Maj. Dec., possible TF.
Rutgers up 4-4

141- Peter Lipari vs Marshall Keller. Toss Up. Giving Lipari a close dec, due to wrestling at home, and wrestling well against some top guys.
Rutgers up 7-4

149- #2 Anthony Ashnault vs #1 Matt Kolodznik. Feature bout of the season. Ashnault won 6-2 in the NCAAs 2 years ago last time they met.
Although Kolodznik has been wrestling well, Ashnault has been better.
Ashnault by dec.
Rutgers up 10-4

157- #14 John Van Brill vs Quincy Monday. Toss up. JVB by dec. JVB has been wrestling better than Monday the past month.
Rutgers up 13-4

165- Stephan Glasgow vs Dale Tiongson- Glasgow been wrestling better of late, knee improving, and against better competition than Tiongson.
Rutgers up 16-4

174- Joe Grello vs Travis Stefanik- Toss Up. Grello by dec. Grello beat Stefanik by a point last month and Grello been wrestling top competition lately, while Princeton has been mostly off for weeks.
Rutgers up 19-4

184- Anthony Oliveri vs Kevin Parker. Parker by MD. RU decimated at 184, wrestling a 165 pound Olvieri instead of Gravina/Scott/Pagano.
Rutgers up 19-8

197- Matt Correnti vs #3 Pat Brucki- Brucki by Major Dec. Correnti went from winning 6 in a row, to 2 losses in a row against top competition.
Rutgers up 19-12

285- Chris Colluci vs Obinna Ajah- Colucci wins by dec. Colucci could even pin Ajah who's been pinned or TF his last 4 matches.

RUTGERS WINS 22-12

Is Suriano injured? Last week Goodale said they weren’t going to wrestle Suriano against MSU until Correnti got pinned. Now I wonder if he will wrestle tonight against Nebraska, Kratch on NJcom said he might not go tonight.
I haven’t heard any clarification if he’s just due for a rest or is banged up and
Injured?

Another Suriano question- does he still have the option of going 125 by time of the Big 10 Tournament.

Flo podcast has Pat Downey on this week, he talks a bit about working w our guys at the NJRTC.Downey said he’s leaning toward Schnaulty over Kolodznik, probably because he knows him better, lol. Ashnault is taking over thr Flo Instagram today, Kolod tomorrow,
Lol. Very good listen. Flo gives RU a ton of exposure , which can only help in recruiting. Downey next wrestles in Cuba. Lot of Nicknames for Downey. Lol

Really? Hope he isn't injured but I also hope we don't rest him at home, especially when he may be 1 of only 2 wins tonight.

From Kratch's match preview in njcom:

"Forecast: Suriano is an overwhelming favorite here. Depending on his health, this could be a spot to get Kyle DiNapoli the bout he was supposed to get against Michigan State. Rutgers likely won't need Suriano's points here – they shouldn't mean much in the grand scheme of the evening.:

The kid from Nebraska is solid. It will be tough for DiNapoli to beat him.
