Ryan Johnson vs Charles Cooke: what is the truth?

This has been bugging me. When RU was actively recruiting Ryan Johnson and Charles Cooke, who would have been transfer from JMU, the reports at the time, as I recall, claimed RU "chose" or "offered" Johnson over Cooke because, when they were on campus for visits at the same time, Johnson "outplayed" Cooke. Nevermind that Cooke averaged over 15 ppg while a JMU, but was not considered a shooter, more of a slasher/scorer. Cooke was also from NJ.

Flash forward to now, Johnson was academically ineligible as a freshman, then transfers (not sure where), and Cooke, after sitting out a year, now is the leading scorer for a top 15-20 team in Dayton.

Did we have a legit shot with Cooke, or was it spin doctoring/saving face. I never understood why we couldn't take both, if able?

I offer this as I am not sure if EJ and staff can be trusted in identifying talent that isn't surefire, like Sanders.

The truth is that if you want an objective, spin-free analysis of our recruits, this is not the place to get it. We are recruiting guys who are so under the radar, there is little consensus on their worth (other than a general lack of high-level offers). It is way too easy to talk up their potential while they're prospects, or dismiss them if they go elsewhere.

On the contrary, I think it's only a few hardline Eddie supporters that won't give objective, spin-free analysis.

Dayton's a great school.

It's hard to compete in recruiting with them when you're dealing with a kid who doesn't have a lot of time left to play. We're not in a win-now mode. We're in patience mode.

so spot on

there are a lot of comments on the paid board ( a lot more than a few) .....they are looking at it objectivity and think the fire Jordan comments are unwarranted based on where the program was a few years ago and the injuries this year.....you just disagree. That's fine, but, please don't be arrogant and think that you Absolutely know what's going to happen next year with a full, uninjured roster (hopefully)....or that you know how this team would have "developed" this year with a healthy roster and not 6'2 guards or 6'4" guards checking PF's.

You can cite the early season games and struggle, but, those were games with young guys playing for the first time. I guess Rutgers is the only team with first year freshmen in key roles to lose a lead or struggle as they try to gel as a unit. The development of Sanders and Laurent is pretty good. Unfortunately, Doorson, Diallo and Freeman did not get the opportunity to continue their development. if so, the product on the court would probably be much better at this point. There are only arrogant posters that say NO.

No where in this thread is there talk about firing Eddie, and no where does Shill say anything about knowing "absolutely what's going to happen next year".. So you're response is completely off target.

I understand Eddie is starting to get a lot of heat in the mainstream media, but you need to stop being so defensive. If Eddie's as secure as you say he is,no need to worry, right?

Every other thread is people (three people) saying Eddie absolutely needs to be fired.

Defensive ? That's pretty funny. I have no skin in the game. Jordan could go tomorrow and I would not lose any sleep. I'm giving my objective view....once again, we disagree. What makes your opinion right ? I assume you know the difference between opinion, speculation and facts.

My response ( you call it off target), was a direct reaction to him saying "only a few are not giving objective, spin free analysis.....that's arrogance, he is right...other opinions are wrong.
