They are both able to beat their defenders off the the dribble but what they need to do is pull up and take the 13-15 foot jump shot. Nigel has a good one and Corey shot has been improving as the season has gone on. Too many times they insist on going all the way to the hoop and either get their shot blocked or they miss and don't draw a foul. Not sure why Pikiel doesn't make a point of this

I think as a coach you know who your best offense comes from, and you have to give them some leniency.

For the most part though, I definitely agree. Too many times they have one mission- get to the basket. Johnson drew fouls early on in the season. Now, who knows, maybe he doesn't have the confidence because the team has struggled so much from the line.

I think over the offseason, Pikiell gets these two players to a more selfless, passing level. They will have to. They can.

I am sure he works on it with them. Ultimately the players themselves have to decide on the shot they're gonna take on any given drive. There was a play in which Corey drove the lane and took it to the hole, and I was hoping he'd pull up from ten feet since no other guard can block his jumper. He missed his shot because he drove into traffic instead of avoiding it with a pullup. I have little doubt he will get there next year.

You really think he instructs them to keep driving and throw up prayers?

Midrange jumpers are low percentage shots for what they give you. There's a reason why the NBA game has shied away from them.

Players need to overcome FT mental blocks.

I hear you. I am always interested in trends and what not.

I will say, it is a nice shot to have in the arsenal. For versatility. I would not be surprised if some of our players were better on the mid range than the foul shot.

I know Corey can hit a nice jumper after shaking off a defender but sometimes it ends up forcing an off-balanced shot and personally I like when Corey drives it to the hoop ... most of the time he hits an awesome shot, and a lot of his "prayers" are right off the glass and in. Personally I would have preferred that 3 times in the final minutes of the NW game instead of 3 three point/jump shot attempts/failures.

Corey finishes well going right but needs to develop taking it to the hoop on the left side and shooting it with his LEFT. Nigel does not finish well going to the basket and puts up okey doke shots that go in every once in a blue moon. Agree that mid range -tear drop shots are waaay better than trying to take in against the trees but Corey is a very good finisher. Also both need to learn how to kick out to shooters on the perimeter and drop in to bigs for high percentage shots when they draw two defenders upon driving into the lane. Look forward to seeing them both have another year together.

I think Nigel is on a short leash & Sanders has the green light:D
But Sanders cant keep using that SAME move,,drive to the right over & over again[roll]
teams are on to that...oh he gets fouled...but misses the free throws

How about just ONCE when three players collapse on you,,,,you throw it to CJ or standing alone UNDER the basket?

The point is a good one. The problem is that neither of them can hit a 13-15 foot shot consistently ! No one the team can !! It's like a free throw. Nobody can shoot it. We hafta find guys who can pull up and hit that mid-range jumper. It's always there for the taking.

What shooters on the perimeter?

Pull up jump shots are a lost art. The way offenses are structured in basketball now de-emphasize the midrange. There are maybe 2 guys left who are any good at that part of the game. None of them are on this team.

I watched the Purdue /Penn State game which was very entertaining. Parker, freshmen guard at Penn State is a tremendous offensive threat with the ability to shoot jump shots off the dribble as well as drive to the basket.I would like to see Rutgers guards have that skillset.
