lays out the same thing Ive been saying for a while...fire or extend to show you are supporting him. I have been adamantly saying giving him one year is the worst move to make as all it does is punt the firing one more year down the line. The team isnt going 500 next year so going 12-20..what happens then.

also includes a poll but what is most telling is this statement...."Insiders say the odds of Jordan returning next season are slim."

also gives who were the offers for our incoming guards....
According to the Rivals.com recruiting database, neither had a scholarship offer from a Power-5 Conference school at the time of their respective commitments in January.

Tripp had offers from Fairfield, Manhattan, Quinnipiac and UNC-Wilmington, according to Rivals.com and 247Sports.com.

Dailey had offers from more than a dozen mid-major programs, most notably Akron, Buffalo, George Mason, Northeastern, Northern Iowa, Rider and Robert Morris.

So whether there was "some" interest from some major schools for those two, they didnt want them for 2016 and its got be concerning that this is how recruiting is going.

Article states Uncle Bobs mistake with Fred Hill, after year three, extending him two more years, and then firing him a year later, don't make the same mistake Pat

Maybe you can put some weight into "slim chance" as Sargeant was seen with Pat at Minnesota game for extended period of time

OK - slim chance probably means conference finals

I'll be so unbelievably pissed if he's brought back.

oh it will be a nightmare on the boards. I will drop to one season ticket next year as a placeholder. It was a season of dread going to the RAC, very disinterested totally....and while the team may still be bad with a new coach next year, you have the hope of the future....when the hope is gone its hard to support the program and thats apparently what has happened with so many people checking out either from the RAC or the boards.

The undertone of the article is pretty much what you're saying above -- don't be thrifty and kick the can down the road. Either Hobbs and Jordan have the same view of the program, and Jordan's extended, or we really need to start over. It just seems that Hobbs is the first AD to even consider a buyout of a coach. Hermann didn't have that option, and Flood stayed on for 2 extra years.

Some fans have always over rated the talent at Rutgers and then used lame excuses why the team continued to have losing seasons. The reality is the following:
1.The lack of financial support has placed Rutgers as a bottom tier basketball program for decades.
2.Out dated facilities have been ignored which has made recruiting a nightmare.
3.The succession of head coaches have shown marginal improvements and than dramatic down turns. The net result has been utter futility and no plan to change the status quo.
4.Jordan has shown very little evidence that the status quo will change. His approach follows kicking the can down the road and somehow magic will suddenly happen on the court.
5.The fan base has been dwindling and based on some of the comments on this board there seems to be a lack of urgency and a willingness to allow Jordan to stay for at least another year.
6.The list of potential head coaches doesn't excite me except for Sendek .Hiring another no name coach isn't the answer if Rutgers actually wants to be competitive in the B1G.
7.Hobbs is placed in a very difficult situation.Fundraising is central to what happens with this program and the entire athletic department.Unless some big donors join the cause quickly I remain discouraged that mens basketball will turn the tide toward a winning program.Inertia must be broken and the clock is ticking.

Hobbs needs a partner - like Chris Ash - to help him lead the charge on fund raising. That's why I think Jordan's days are numbered.

Which also could really shape who his coach is. Would a Herb Sendek be all in on fundraising and schmoozing with people with $. Eddie was above that. Herb could be too.

I know I have been anti-Sendek, but believe me given the landscape (where we will be in pecking order) I'd be tickled to have him right now.

People get excited about a lot of things they might not like to do after the sit out for a year. But it is an excellent question. After spending close to 20 years a NC State and Arizona State, I am sure Sendek is used to dealing with donors, booster and the like. Eddie didn't have to do that in the NBA

Pernetti wanted to fire Hill but wasnt allowed to spend the money to buy him out. I dont think there was every a discussion of Pernetti raising the money from donors

Julie wanted to fire Flood but wasnt allowed to spend the money to buy him out...and the donors who agreed with her wanted only a guy with head coaching experience not an assistant..could have had Narduzzi or Tom Hermann

this is the first time an AD is actually positioned to do something and given the autonomy by the President and BOG without worrying about ooh oh we cant spend.

Rutgers needs to spend real money to get a top notch HC(Cronin of Cinn or Jamie Dixon Pitt, but instead there is a list of local mid-majors or out of work HC's)

However, the desire does not appear to be there.

Am I only one rooting for some bad teams to win their conference titles so if RU wins the b1G tourney they aren't stuck playing on Tuesday in a 16th seeded game.
LOL! I'm pulling for Our Lady in Perpetual Agony, so we have a chance of winning our play-in game.

Barachi and the BOG gave Hobbs a blank check for Rutgers Basketball?

Hell....let's make at Pitino. Tell him he can recruit NE talent and be the only coach to win the NC at 3 schools.. That should be good for his ego.

He provided three options. The article is even titled as such.

Few more days.

You can't squeeze one ounce out of any of this that is surprising. The spring period is always picking up scraps or taking huge gambles that no one took in the fall. Spring signees often come with unimpressive, even absent, offers and vague claims of "interest" or "starting to take notice" from other schools.

In short, this went bad the moment we whiffed in the fall.

one thing...if Jordan stays, and is given an extension, but is forced into changing his assistants...does that make him dead man walking also?

There will be 6 season tickets less that I know of if he's brought back..including my two.

I agree, especially on No. 7 - Hobbs is in a tough spot, especially since the real Big10 money is 5 years away.

My buddies and I are adding ten assuming Sanders is on the banks with the a few guys also considering.

Well if Eddie's back there will plenty of seats for you and your buddies to grab

We're all post grads in out late twenties who live twenty minutes or so from the RAC. Corey is worth the price of admission and we all have season tickets for football so priority points come into play.

For me, and I think for many of the one more year advocates, the question is not whether the record merits a change or an extension, but what course of action serves our purposes best for the long term?

And, there are arguments to be made for both choices. The financial situation, to me, is the big unknown. Will we be in a much better position to get someone next year or this year?

Another factor is that it doesn't seem to be a year where a lot of changes are being made, so it could be a "strike while the iron is hot" year.

My guess is that we can learn a lot about who our basketball coach will be from who our football coach is. I think Hobbs is going to look for someone with real fire in the belly, who is highly organised and detail-oriented, and is passionate about the job. I'm guessing he will be looking at the possibility of high level assistants in addition to HCs.

And I'm guessing we won't know Jack until he says, "I'm pleased to introduce...."

Pernetti was allowed to fire Hill and Hermann was allowed to fire Flood. But they were asked the same questions that Hobbs will be asked if he wants to fire Jordan: How are you going to pay his buyout and how are you going to pay for the coach you want to hire.

Pernetti couldn't answer the question, without some fake scandal to get Hill to take a reduced buyout and a reduced budget that forced him to take a chance on a coach with a headcase reputation.

Hermann had donors lined up, but they balked when they realized that Hermann wasn't going to hire Nick Saban. The second time around (even though she didn't last long enough to pull the trigger), Hermann had budgeted the money from the rank-and-file, through increased seat donation requirements, dynamic ticket pricing, and tiered parking pricing.

Just like the money was there to hire Jordan, and the money was there to pay Flood his full buyout and hire Ash at a higher salary, the money is there to replace Jordan. It is just whether Hobbs is willing to manage his budget in a way that he can spend it.

There are plenty of seats now. I guess that huge total of 1250 season ticket holders are going to force him to go elsewhere.
