FYI for those interested...looks like the scrimmage vs UAlbany is going inside this week due to temps and conditions...so it will not be open to the public... I know some people local were hoping to attend...

Opening game will be the following Saturday at home vs. Lafayette. See you there...

Thanks for the update. Guess we will need to wait another week.

At the rate things are going we'll have to get there via row boat.

Jesus can you please change the title of this thread? The first thing that came to my mind was that a certain all-world scorer got hurt again OR Even worse that somebody died.

There you go....I changed it for you :)

What was the original title

“Sad news for men’s lax” IIRC
That wasn't even close to the original title of the thread....laughable

The original tile of the thread was "Sat scrimmage lacrosse update". That was it...

I then added "moved inside"....that's it

My thread title said nothing about sad news...

Maybe you misread and thought Sat said Sad...but it NEVER said Sad...the title was fine...I wondered why you asked me to change it...you thought it said Sad....it never did...it said "Sat" as in Saturday

Now that that's cleared up, we can all move on with our Saturday

It’s not easy. Especially at a school like Rutgers where there are academic considerations.
This is correct; getting kids in to any college right from the res is a challenge. That's why kids going to OCC are a good target. But, I think that state schools are able to provide financial aid to some of these kids that falls outside of the 12.9 scholarships, as they can often qualify for federal aid programs. The trick is finding kids that are academically ready for a four year college. It's a crapshoot.

Albany may have some special angle to play as a SUNY-School....i don't know...

A lot of goals were scored, lol. Really hope this becomes a regular season game next year.

Cali or Golfer any insight? I know Albany lost TJ and another but supposedly restocked so should have been a good test. Would like to know if we have some young guys stepping up and how the scrimmage went?

golfer probably has some insight as his son played and from what I understand had a rocket to the upper corner.

So I obviously get some inside info, but I can only share so much...I certainly can't get into specifics on guys and I'm in a bit of a different position....I hope that make sense, but I'm just not supposed to share too much...I'll just leave it at that.

With that said, RU played very well for four of the five quarters and had one bad qtr....we more than held our own and it was a very good test between two very good teams...from what I'm told...

Lots of goals were scored on both sides as Cali reported earlier...Tahoka was extremely impressive and very difficult to handle...

Honestly I think the guys you expect to contribute are looking good and I think a couple of the new comers will be ready to make a big impact as well...I really can't get into names...sorry

But things are positive and and some things still need work, but they will be ready on Saturday at home and you will see all the pieces start to gell together...

My source is very positive, healthy and is excited about what this team can potentially do...

Sorry I can't get any deeper at this point...hope you understand

He is full go this weekend.

Regarding Tehoka, I don’t want to get into specifics either but the fact that he is playing is driving some other conference coaches mad. I’ll leave it at that. Personally speaking, I’d enjoy him this year. I hope I am wrong but I’d be surprised if he stays in college another year.

On the field though that kid is a beast. He is going to be hard to handle no matter who is guarding him.

This is a fair point on all fronts he is a special talent that is so much fun to watch. If you can you should go see him Live as he does things with his stick that are just crazy.

Very fun to watch. You wonder if they are built to win championships though with their style. The shot clock is going to help though. Based on the score of our scrimmage, I wish I could have seen that game. Must have been some incredible goals all around.

This season, especially early, is going to be very interesting. It's going to be cool to see how different teams attack different situations as it relates to the shot clock. I am guessing defensive minded coaches are going to struggle. Those are the types who have a very hard time living with turnovers that invariably come with playing faster. Fortunately for us, it's in our DNA. We want to play that way.

A game like we lost to OSU last year will never happen again, not with the shot clock.

The game at OSU on March 30...Big Ten opener is a huge game judging from how things are stacked up with the preseason predictions...A win in Columbus will go a long long way in conference play

I get we have lots of lacrosse to play before that, but we're not getting into the NCAA if we don't get into the Big Ten tourney and win at least one game...

March 30 is a pivotal date for this team...

The attack unit of AC, Mullins and Tommy will be very effective IMO...tons of skill and experience

The midfield unit(s) should be built for power and speed now with some guys that can absolutely launch rockets from the outside...and they are all very good athletes that can run in space...

It's going to be pick your poison against this RU offensive set...they will play fast and if you choose to play tight on the attack and not slide actively, our guys will kill you...and if you pay lots of attention to the three attackmen...I think some people are gonna be very surprised about what they're gonna see from the new crop of young midfield guys...shooters shoot...and we have a couple guys...more than a couple that will make you pay if you give them time and space...from distance...it's going to put a lot of pressure on defenses...

Of course I'm officially bias...my 7:30am Friday flight to Newark can't get here fast enough...not to mention it's an absolute blizzard here in Michigan today...

I'm having trouble focusing on business...the season is upon us...

Agree with the assessment on Attack as Coyne has looked awesome so far and Keiran and AC are just studs. I think AC's return and Tommy growth will more than offset the loss of Jules (he is a big loss though). At the midfield, it is going to be a lot of pick your poison as Gallagher looks lightning fast and the offensive midfield can go seven deep with the 2nd group averaging about 6'1" and with Schnacte swinging from attack to midfield that position flexibility gives us even more power on offense. Every offensive middie with the exception of one has had at least one goal in the preseason that is the type of depth we have seen on the banks in a long time.
The question arises on the other end of the field, how do we replace 3 of our top 4 SSDM and our top 2 close defenders. For a team that relies heavily on their SSDM to create offense, this is something worth watching. Max is excellent and will probably be first team all-Big Ten. There has been a lot of mixing and matching so far and I would not be surprised if you saw 3 or 4 freshman play on the defensive side of the ball this season.

I’m concerned that without a 2 pt. line, some d-minded coaches with sit back in a tight zone and wait for the shot clock to wind down and force a bad outside shot. But I assume Brian is prepping for that and will emphasize taking the open shot when presented even more so. But still, I can see that strategy being effective despite it being entirely contrary to the intent of the shot clock rule. A 2 and even 3 point line would solve that, though.

It's possible, but based on history, not likely that we would. Uva has gotten in the tournament a number of x without making their tourney. But they always get the benefit of the doubt.

We need to win. The tourney is on our home field. We must find a way. The goal is to win the conference and take it out of the hands of a committee. OSU is going to be a huge game and is a tough place to win. As are all B1G venues. Michigan being the exception, but I see that changing. I do like that the kids were just there last year so should have some familiarity with the place. Of course, Michigan can say the same about RU.

Totally agree with that. It's the last of this evolution. We will see it come into play in the future, just as we did basketball. Lacrosse is following the same trajectory.

Good insights family...admittedly I don't have the knowledge yet on the defensive side of the ball and what was lost last year defensively...Max will need to hold strong early to help new faces get into the flow so to speak...that's the benefit of a experienced veteran goalie...fact is there gonna lean on him early on the back end to help out until the units get synched up...

It also won't surprise me if you see a couple of the offensive middies that have size and experience drop in the box on defense, double as SSDM, and then lead transition breaks back downfield...

Those are some of the new elements with the shot clock that you talk about that we will get to see develop...not only strategy wise...but also personal wise...if you have athletic offensive midfielders that can drop in and check on defense, you may see those guys start earning more playing time as the season gets deep...the two way guy is going to be more valuable than a specialist...it's just a fact

You can catch a lot of teams off balance or in an unsettled situation when you have offensive weapons that can hang on a "secondary break"...teams are looking to change personnel and you just attack them in a secondary push...it's like the delayed break in college basketball...teams always lose the trailer coming down the floor and he either spots up on the three line for a wide open 3, or it's a big that is running the floor late in transition that rim runs for a pass at the rim for an easy two...different sport, but same concepts in terms of timing an catching defenses in bad positions...

I wonder if there will be something of a return with respect to short stick middies to players who stay on for both offense and defense. I know, I'm old.

I would say that is already happening. I expect our D mids to put up offensive numbers.
