I will take all of the home teams over the weekend. 2-0 to date. Good choice with Wisconsin last night

Wisconsin will be a tough matchup. Trice is lethal from outside and Happ could eat us up inside based on how poorly we played Ward.

I cant imagine we will be ready to play them. After a quick turn around from The Miami game to Michigan sTATE. If I am Pike I might not even prepare to play Wisconsin. The key parts of the rotation were fatigued...more on the mental side. As a team we need to get past this game and then we play 4 straight Saturdays with ZERO games in between.

Posted in the last thread but

Mich State - W
Wisco - W

Michigan - W
Indiana - W
Maryland - W
OSU - W
Nebraska - W

That is ridiculous. Since we hardly play a game a week the next 3 weeks, Pike has to and will go all in to win this game. Wisconsin’s talent is not better than ours. His decision on how to play Happ and how the freshman play in front of 17000 on the road will determine whether we win or not.Never give away a game in this league.

Wisconsin is better than us based on the string of power 5 schools they have beaten convincingly. This on paper is not an even matchup..doesnt mean RU cannot win but they are a decided underdog

Not talent wise. Maybe more experience, two decade long incredible home court advantage , at home catching us at the end of a tough three game stretch with 2 road trips, our lack of road success historically, all account for the point spread. I like our matchups position by position as well as our bench and reserves. I expect a very competitive close game.

why is it ridiculous.....finite amount of time you can practice. it just might make more sense spending valuable time getting better for the rest of the season and not how to beat wisconsin

I’m sure Pike will instill in the team that a conference game isn’t worth game planning for...really consistent with his messaging and philosophy...

Sorry but if you do not know why your saying that Pike should not try to win at Wisconsin is ridiculous, then I have a hard time explaining it to you. That is a loser’s mentality which our coach has never demonstrated and never will.

You're basically also implying that preparing to play a top 25 team would somehow not make us better? Odd thought process. So game planning to stop a talented big man like Happ is a waste of time that won't make us better for the rest of the season? I don't get the logic

Wisconsin has one of the best players in the country. Of course they're better than us talent-wise.

Unmmm.if you are a good coach, you can coach for the rest of the season AND for a specific opponent

About the only team I think is fully contrary to this is Princeton ...which your normal every day routine on how to play defense has a lot of things that has to be thrown the door for one opponent....and why I would not play them if I was a coach unless it’s in the NCAA tournament

I am not saying a complete zero of preparation.

This is not a video game. At least 3 of our players were completely fried physically and mentally.

Game is over on Friday night. You have to take a plane to Madison, Wisconsin probably on Sunday.

Sometimes you have to take the temperature of your team and assess. There were things I saw on the court on Friday I have never seen from this team from a behavior standpoint.

I think they needed a mental day plus a travel day.

Where are they better talent wise from 1-10, position by position. We are faster, more agile, better shooters, and crash the boards just as hard as they do . I will give you Happ and that’s it. We had Corey last year that was the most talented player on the court but that doesn’t mean that one of the best players alone will be enough to pull out a win.
Wisconsin has a few things going for them, their experience, their 2 decade incredible home winning streak, their catching us playing the third game in 6 days involving 2 road trips, our historically bad road record, and they are healthy. But they are not more talented than us.

Can you elaborate on the “behavior” comment?

Minnosota has a very effective press, and if it is broken they recover quickly. Still, they lack a true PG.

OSU coach is very good. His players run quickly off the court.

Rutgers will have very little chance at beating Nebraska or Michigan. I am a fan of Roby on Nebraska, and he seems like a great kid.

The rest we should compete with.

Roby is really struggling right now. Foul and turnover trouble. His back up is playing way more than originally thought he would.

This is crazy to me. Wisconsin is quite possibly a top 10 team in the country.

Happ is FAR better than any of our bigs. Nate Reuvers is probably better than Doorson and Johnson too but it's closer (Reuvers is a threat from outside, and has a higher block percentage than both).

Let's throw the guards in a draft: Trice, Davison, Pritzl, King, Baker, Kiss, Thiam, Mathis, McConnell, Anderson. I don't know the exact order but I do know that Wisconsin has two of the top three (Trice, Davison, Baker). Maybe Thiam is 4th with his defense but there's a gap after the top 3... Thiam's been totally invisible offensively against SJU, Miami, and MSU. Kiss, Pritzl, and King are all interchangable one-dimensional shooters who can all run hot or cold. Mathis, McConnell, and Anderson are the bottom three.

At forward you've got Ford, Thomas, Iverson, Omoruyi, and Harper. I give Eugene the edge but Ford was terrific was a freshman and it's not a wide gap.

Wisconsin isn't THAT much more experienced than us, outside of Happ. But they do everything well. They take care of the ball far better than we do. They're better shooting the ball. They're very good defensively... even last year when they were down, we were 9th and they were 10th in Big Ten-only defense.

they are now rated 12 in the country. Happ is better than anyone RU has and it isnt close. Its not their individual talent, its their teamwork as a group..way more advanced than us and they are not counting as much on newcomers to make plays for them. RU is still limited because the young talent is raw and undeveloped.

Wisconsin will not be a top 10 team in the country. In fact, I think they will lose 7-8 games in the Big 10 this year. There is only one elite team in the conference and that is Michigan . After that maybe Michigan State if they get Mcquaid back. I bunch Wisconsin with the rest of the league, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue , Ohio State . You really think Trice is that much better than Baker? I do not ! I think Eugene is better than Ford or Iverson. I have seen their other role players , Ford and Reuvers and they are good but I think our bigs and Our freshman can handle them. I think they have to be able to handle Harper, Mathis and Johnson and not sure they can. Davison will have to deal with Issa’s Height. In fact, I am expecting Issa to break out tonight as we have not seen his best game yet . I do not look at Wisconsin and worry how daunting they are compared to Michigan or Michigan State , rather I see a rather even matchup with the statements I made above about what will be in Wisconsin’s favor. They are now favored by 12 down from 14.5 which they opened at so some smart action is coming in on Rutgers.

I cannot disagree with your comment that we have to rely on younger players and we do not know what we will get in the first Big 10 Road game. They did not shy away from the moment in Miami which had a much different atmosphere than 17,000 fans at Wisconsin will have, but it provides hope. We see the talent of Mathis, Harper and Johnson and like what they can bring to the table to get us over the top. Normally for freshman on the road they do not play as well as they would at home but I think the coaching staff will challenge them tonight. However, if Geo and Eugene come to play and have good games we will be in it to the end.
