Scarlet Knight Archives: Women's Basketball vs. #1 Notre Dame (Feb. 1, 2001)

This game turned me into a Rutgers Women’s Basketball fan for life! The noise at the RAC at the end of this game was deafening-as loud as I’ve ever heard it. Tammy Sutton-Brown was the hero with a 3 point play (old fashioned way) and then the game saving block. ND’s only loss.

Thoroughly enjoyed that clip. Loved Tasha P.....she was a natural at pg. Always looked at her as the quarterback of the team. That was a classic matchup of point guards and posts. Pointer v. Ivey and Riley v. Sutton-Brown. That was a soft foul call on Riley at the end. BUT we'll take it!!

I’ll be 90 in a rocking chair at Easy Acres and still be able to vividly recall this game. I stand by my statement that this was the loudest the RAC has ever been, with the possible exception of the men’s A-10 championship, which I also attended, so I can compare firsthand.
THIS was the hey day of RU women’s b-ball, and I would argue one of the top 2 rosters to ever run the 55 under CVS.
After the game, my friends and I went over to Draft Picks bar at the Hyatt, and who comes strolling in but Muffet and her coaching staff. They sat at the table next to ours and we sent them over a round. I heard Muffet say “I can’t believe we lost”. ND lost twice that season enroute to the national championship. We were their first loss, then Sue Bird had some last second heroics for UConn in the BE title game. That was the their second and only other loss.
Such fantastic memories, and of course the level of play was excellent.

Didn’t notice the first time but I just rewatched - announcer didn’t know there was no 10 second rule bringing the ball over mid court
