Schiano Spit in the Face of Rutgers

We are showing the spurned ex-girlfriend traits. Schiano hit his ceiling at RU and it is best if we completely move on (including from his coaching tree).
Schiano is a good coach, but he's not the only one out there. Now that Rutgers is in the B1G and along with a fertile recruiting area has generated more interest from a strong crop of good coaches. No longer is the job viewed as a wasteland and with that in mind Schiano is no longer the ONLY options. One thing I've notice with Rutgers going back 30+ years is the recycle mindset of the fans, administration and local media. Too many Rutgers fans always look at things as if the "sky is falling all the time", so we run to bad habits like only certain coaches are best for us. Are you guys convinced Schiano, Golden and Cristobal are flat out better than Narduzzi, Ash, or even Mullen (used RU) who all showed interest in the job.

FYI: Schiano was never offered the job. Even if offered I doubt Schiano would have taken it. Some of the things Flood did and got into trouble were copied from Schiano. Now, I'm not saying Schiano was on Flood's level, but there are buried bones that would have surfaced if he had returned due to recent events. It appears Schiano just wanted some distances between Rutgers and himself. Too bad he got a reality check when all the HC jobs went to other people. Schiano had to take a step back by taking a DC position. It's more like college football spit in the face of Schiano.

It's not like Schiano is pulling a Rick Pitino here, winning a national championship at Kentucky and then going to coach for Louisville.

Greg Schiano is not walking thru that door! :)

Let's all move on ... Shall we?

how is this spitting in the face of Rutgers?

- Rutgers did not hire him, they hired Ash.
- He did not get the jobs he was prioritizing (Miami & USC)
- Ohio State offered him a really nice landing spot, so he took it.

This is one reason Rutgers can not be great because their fans are too hateful. No one at Ohio State or even the other Big Ten teams that lost DC or OC hate as much as Rutgers fans. Their fans understand it's business. You don't think recruits see it. Look at the thread Is Flood a bad coach? No he got fired for being a good coach. Rehash Stupidity.
That's a pretty broad brush you're painting with.

I think he may have helped us with recruiting and we all know he can coach D. But i honestly thanked this worked out very well for everyone. I'm happy.

tm_nj, Thank you, thank you. Please can we move on from the retread coaches. We keep looking like a Madonna 80's movie "Desperately Seeking Susan". Pleading and begging for coaches to come back. As far as Greg is concerned he's like been there done that. Thank u Greg for getting us to the next level and Flood to take us back two levels. RU is beyond GS now, we don't need him. GS laid the blue print and we have Coach Ash now.

Congrats to the OSU position and good luck. Folks think that he spit in our faces. Nooooo Greg moved on with his life as folks on this board apparently have not.

There are many coaches out there who are great coaches and can take us three steps forward. Can we stop acting like "Revenge of the Nerds" and act like "The Avengers". Let's act like a Big 10 team, kick ass and show the world what Jersey Power is all about. Please enough of the Greg Schiano posts because he is no longer relevant in our RU lives......

Going to turn this post a little bit. I think that what hurts RU is that the Fanbase / Average NJ Resident has a chip on their shoulder from getting screwed over by "this or that". It's just a fact of life living in NJ. Fans seem to have agendas that they are beholden to more than they are to Rutgers.

Consider that the Pernetti Crowd just could not let go and seemed to want to cause divisiveness in the fanbase rather than unified support. The same thing seems to be happening to those who can't let go of Schiano. To them he is some type of Idol who just on the basis of being in the same Conference will reign doom down on Rutgers Football. They would rather bring this up in different forms over and over again in order to cause divisiveness .....than to focus on the good that just happened from Cleaning House and the potential of what might come out of it with a new coach.

Why is this disrespectful to ru? I am proud of him and happy for him. He found a perfect and fulfilling gig for himself. A perfect fit. With the potential of turning into hc of tOSU? Well done, gary. I look forward to competing against our old friend. It ties ru to osu in yet another interesting way.

I love this, really.

The whole coaching profession is filled with whores, working for whomever will pay them the most $$$. The last thing HS players shoul believe is a coach who tells them " come to my school because I'll care about you." No need to respect the guy you play for.

Would people feel so disrespected if it was proven that Rutgers never offered him the job?

I think Hobbs and others knew the best move was to start fresh with a new coach. If that's what they thought and they never offered him the job, people are being crazy for absolutely no reason at all.

You be thinking wrong.

Wow, what a load of crap. He wasn't "paid a fortune" at RU for what he accomplished, namely the biggest salvage job ever, which was directly responsible for us getting a great new stadium and into the B1G - he earned every penny and was nowhere near the salary of many others.

He was the 12th highest paid head coach in 2008 & 2009. For comparison, the 12th highest paid coach in 2015 was Steve Spurrier at $4.2 mm. And even that wasn't enough. He demanded Rutgers give him a portion of a nature preserve and a forgivable loan to build a house.

RU hired Ash... You genuinely expected GS to decline a terrific opportunity with the odds of him coaching again dwindling? Seems legit

You're right, but do you think that warrants a thread being started says he "spit in our face." I mean come on, this is a fvcked up thread to start about a person that is completely responsible for most of us even having freakin rivals accounts.

Agreed!
What's even more F'd up is we have more threads on GS than we do about new coach Ash!!!!!!
Going forward, we'll probably have constant arguments between the the Schianoites and the Ashlies :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I didn't get upset when Schiano left days before signing day for the NFL and gutted our staff. That's business . I didn't get upset when Schiano didn't want to come back when Flood was let go, hey it's hard to go back to where you started. But now, I think Schiano really disrespected Rutgers by taking this job w OSU. F HIM. I hope Meyers fires his *** before the season ends. Luke Fickel must be thrilled. Hope his career ends miserably.

Perhaps he....correctly IMO....calculated his value to the Rutgers football program.
He saw that he followed Terrible Terry Shea and that all RU could replace him with was Flood.
How dare an employee try to maximize his pay ?
