His excuse for not calling a T.O. to force a review of that TD was bc the ref told him 'they watched it and it wasn't a touchdown.'
But please help me understand what exactly he expected the ref to say in that situation:

"Yes coach, it was a touchdown and I missed it, but you should definitely challenge the spot."
"Yes, it was actually a touchdown, but don't challenge it."
"It was a touchdown, but my mission is to screw you on the spot, so definitely don't challenge it"

Someone please make it make sense.
The next play was run with like 15 seconds on the play clock bc we - for reasons unknown to mankind - decided to run hurry-up offense instead of taking our time. There was zero chance the booth got to review that play within 20 seconds and then relay the result back down to that ref for him to be able to make that qualified statement. A HC has to know that in the heat of the moment.
Schiano got got and that's squarely on him.
