As you say, and also intimated on TKR podcast that Vallone is basically an OL coach in training - why bother with a TE coach at all?
If the philosophy under OC KC is TEs are just another blocker, go all the way and have OL Flaherty in charge of them.

Use that coaching spot for a dedicated QB coach to work with Wimsatt, AK, Surace etc.

IDK if a dedicated QB coach would add value.

Mario Verduzco- what did he achieve at Nebraska as QB coach? Not much.

Drew Mehringer- he was a QB in college and OC/QB coach at Rutgers. What did he do? Took out Laviano who had a nice season in 2015 in favor of Gio Rescigno. Huge blunder. In his famous goal line stand against Iowa, he had featherweight Tylin Oden in to try to punch it in.

IMO, the quality of the player and the schemes put in place by the OC matter much more than anything a dedicated QB coach can do for the QB.

They also said Brock can work with the TE group and also with Vallone. Scott is not a newbie to coaching … people wanted as Richie and Mike mentioned a “ sexy hire”. We’ll see if Vallone pans out.I do know one thing from several people in the business… players and recruits respect and like him. Good enough for this old man.

Brock has experience as a TE coach too. And to the point of @cubuffsdoug , coaches should be able to coach a variety of positions, which Brock has done throughout his career, including being head coach:

It worked with Fridge for a year. And actually, it worked back in the late 90's when the HC (Shea) was actually QB coach who was in a level too high.

Fridge was the DL coach for 4 years (1973-1976) at The Citadel and moved to their OC position the next 3 years (1977-1979) before he left there for the William and Mary OC position in 1980

Yes. But Fridge was the OC. He was a HC for a lot of years before coming to Rutgers. He was a bit of an enigma with respect to being a QB whisperer.
I wonder how much, if any, wisdom Chas Dodd imparts to the QB room. He is strength and conditioning. But I have been to practices where he throws in drills for the WRs. Is he in the position meetings with the QBs? Maybe somebody knows.

If you had half a brain you would be dangerous. Vallone played DL and coached Oline under Flats… coached at Fordham …. Was an analyst… he has earned the shot . He is a very good rep of what a Rutgers guy is.

You should be aware that Flaherty was a TE coach before taking a O line position . Vallone has more time as a position coach.
