Then you have never really paid attention to any coach during training camp.
Sarcasm.

100% correct..
Really, is this true? I guess I'm looking through Scarlet colored glasses, since I thought once we get past this season with so many changes in place, the program would take off under Ash in the years to follow.Next year has the potential to be a 3-9 type season....
That's why I think it's very important to get to a bowl this year and finish recruiting strong for the '17 class. That way we can get off to a strong start with the 2018 class and then hold on for dear life as the season plays out...

I don't understand you guys at all. I know after this year many starters graduate but that happens to most college teams. How can you say that 2018 we will be lucky to win 3 games? Let's see how we do in 2017 before writing off 2018 already. How do you know that either Laviano or Allen or for that matter, Oden, lights it up at the QB spot? That our running game kicks it into another gear and is the strength of the team? Or our DL on defense is so dominating upfront that improves or LB & secondary play? And next year with a year of experience, our LB's & DB's are strength and we have one of the better D's in the Big 10?
Why always dwell on the negative? A game hasn't been played yet, we have a new spread offense, new defensive schemes, improved recruiting, improved player development and most of all, professional coaches who have been successful at the highest levels! At this stage, without having seen the team play a game, I'm going to be optimistic and say we will be better than 6-6 this year and much better than 3 to 4 wins next year!

I do not believe I'm dwelling on the negative. I am also refraining from calling you a sunshine pumper.
Coming from where we were last year 6 wins and a bowl game would be a great improvement. Do I hope we win more, of course, but as someone far more learned than me one said, "hope is NOT a strategy". If we win more no once will be happier than me, I just dont see it happening for the reasons I posted earlier in the thread. I also dont claim to have a crystal ball but to think losing this much senior leadership combined with Floods brutal last 2 classes isnt going to have a negative effect I think is illogical. I too dislike reading posts from negative nellies. In my earlier post I think i balanced pretty well the positives and negatives as I saw them. I am encouraged with the direction of the program but concede there will be a few rough patches until we get to where we want to be. IMO this year will be better than next year. I'm happy for your enthusiasm and I hope your predictions are better than mine. I just dont see it the same way as you.
When your QB's legs stress out defenses by making DE's fixate on containment, LB's freeze worried about the run, and safeties having to play both run and pass equally. There was an article out a few weeks ago where Mike Leach talked about the mistake most coaches make when recruiting QBs. He says never to recruit a QB that doesn't have accuracy and think you can change that bc you either have that or you don't. In his opinion, too many coaches fall in love with the athletic abilities of QBs, size, arm strength, etc and think they can just fix accuracy but that never really works out. Hopefully he's wrong about that bc j don't think the accuracy part gets fixed next year either. Even our recruit QB's weakness is accuracy.
Very fair post. What gets on my nerves is painting the last two Flood classes as "brutal." Which two classes are you referring to? 2015 and 2016? 2014 and 2015? The 2016 class has more 2 star recruits whom Ash recruited, so he owns a big part of the 2016 class. Our 2014 and 2015 classes were on par with or above Iowa, Purdue, Northwestern, Maryland, Minnesota, Indiana and Illinois (take Maryland and Northwestern out for 2014)--this is when you factor out the number of recruits and look at the number of 3 star and 4 star recruits. Minnesota seems to trend closely to our recruiting- a team many here have penciled in as a loss. Painting recruiting classes with such a broad brush can lead to bad predictions. Iowa's 2014 (#10 in B1G) and 2015 (#13 in B1G) brutal classes must have their fans apoplectic.I do not believe I'm dwelling on the negative. I am also refraining from calling you a sunshine pumper.

Ash is going to bring in JUCOs and graduate transfers to patch holes the same way Flood did, and that has worked well for RU. I expect Ash's expertise to work even better.
In 2017 Rutgers plays Morgan State, Eastern Michigan and Purdue--may we pencil those in as wins? And we also play Indiana, Illinois, and Maryland--I see 2 of 3 of those as winnable. I see the floor at 5 wins in 2017.
I think we agree for the most part. Of course more 4 star (and 5 star) recruits and fewer 2 star would have been and WILL BE great in the future. Probably the biggest thing that makes me more optimistic than I have ever been is that the program is back in the hands of a football nerd and detail freak (meant in the most complimentary way), and we have a completely revamped strength and conditioning program under Kenny Parker. Is coaching, development and S/C going to cause us to knock off Ohio State and Michigan-no. But back to the recruiting class rankings, for me, it is always fun to pull for teams like Iowa, Wisconsin, and Michigan State (early Dantonio era) and watch them complete with and sometimes knock off teams full of 4 and 5 star talent. I think we can both agree that the Ash era is going to be some hard nose and fun football to watch.I was speaking about the 14 and 15 classes. I am in agreement that 2016 is Ash's class but as he didnt start until December (and even then he was still fulfilling OSU obligations) , I think he gets a pass for that year. I think we want the same thing we just express it differently. If I were to ask you, if we recruit on par with the teams you mentioned would you be satisfied I'm fairly certain (even knowing nothing about you) the answer would be no. I hope Ash does go the JUCO and Grad transfer route. If we have a decent season, seem like a team on the rise and can offer an attractive depth chart perhaps we can plug a few holes. I was commenting on people that are actually on the current roster. If we are going to speculate about what might be why not go all the way and say what if we sign 15 5* this year and next.
