Yeah I’m sure the Devils don’t need much help with attendance on Saturday night games , but it would help the arena get more people there on that day overall
I'd be more up for doing a two-fer if it wasn't right before Christmas like that. But I still want to go to the RU game.

Because everyone is afraid to play at the RAC.
I would think most mid majors and up don’t like to play an away game at the other teams court, unless there is a return game
Playing at semi neutral site, is more possible

And
Possibly we will play Miss state at a off campus site next year

They will bring a dozen family members to sit behind their bench
Some coaches and programs attempt to schedule games in areas where players hail from as a small reward.
Rutgers hoops did as much for Eugene Omoruyi, scheduling a game in Toronto if my memory serves me well.

They could schedule a game vs Mississippi St in Georgia next year…🤔
The ATL has an NBA building..and Rutgers will have at least three players with a connection.

It’s hard to blame the staff on scheduling this year. With the hand they started with (already having 2 true OOC road games penciled in) the options were limited. We weren’t scheduling another road game. No team puts 3 on the calendar. And I doubt Pike wanted to pencil in a commitment to go to another decent power conference home gym next season (a lot of moving parts with future realignment / scheduling).

He’s probably bringing the best he could get to the RAC for the $ we were willing to spend on money games. We have a few somewhat decent low majors coming in (like Bryant). It is what it is.

Are fans critical of this season’s OOC schedule? It’s a good one IMO and a nice upgrade from the recent past. Pike did a good job.

I notice the ATL has a Holiday Hoopsgiving tournament event every year ant State Farm arena and Mississippi St plays TBD this year. Perhaps Rutgers gets a spot in 2024.
Penn St happens to play in it this season.

Big Ten Conference game is by default - managed by the Big Ten.
This is an OOC game. I would hope it’s structured just like an other neutral site tournment or matchup.
How are tickets being managed?

Big Ten Basketball Tournament presented by TIAA is still managed by the Big Ten

Yes, but B1G tournament games are considered neutral court.

The game against Mississippi State is the Gotham Classic presented and hosted by the Gazelle Group. The same company that is presenting and hosting the RU/Princeton game (Jersey Jam).

I have seen game contracts for these type of non-conference neutral site games hosted by a third party and in an event like this the host (Gazelle Group) would pick up all the normal operations expenses that come with a NCAA basketball game. They'd also get the box office.

Rutgers and Mississippi State get paid to play the game. Due to the location I'm guessing RU will get approximately $50k & MSU probably a bit more.

Gazelle Group will provide hotel accommodations for the teams.

Gazelle Group will also hire the game officials and the people who work the scorer's table (they will likely be locals).

A game 30 minutes away from campus is normally a $10k expense (round trip bus + driver, bus + driver to shoot around & back to hotel, bus + driver to game, one night hotel stay, food, rent a hotel ballroom for team meeting and meals. I'm sure I'm overlooking something(s).

I think I just still don't understand why the MSG game wasn't considered neutral. If the big ten had us play MSU in Indianapolis or DC for that Super Sunday matchup, it would have been neutral. It seemed like the only reason MSG got changed to an RU home game was proximity to our home arena.

Of course it would. Indianapolis and DC aren’t in the Rutgers or MSU markets.

That’s exactly the reason. I had linked the ncaa manual on neutral/home decisions and the game fit all the criteria of a rutgers home game

So what makes this Miss St game at Pru any different?

Being run by an outside party. The gazelle group.

Not sure NCAA deems conferences “outside parties”
Yeah I remember we went in depth into the NCAA's examples and guidelines last season for the MSU MSG game, and I think this has to be the answer.

Good question.

Probably because it's a game being run by a third party (not a school or conference) at an off campus site.

That's a guess btw.

Isn't it better, in the NET, to get a W on a neutral site game than a home game?
