Serious Question: Would you trade Pikiell for Crean?

Crean is Jim Harbaugh's brother-in-law. If we hired him, the football board might implode.

Serious question that I'm just curious about. Does Pike read these posts? If so, it would be counterproductive for him to be reading that the RU fandom wants Crean instead of Pike. I'm glad most votes are no.

Nonsense. It's a classic fan-type question. It's obviously hypothetical.

And the only correct answer is "I don't know." Pikiell has to prove A LOT before you definitely say no, and there are enough flaws in Crean to not say definitely yes.

Obviously Crean has accomplished a lot more, but he wasn't coaching at Stony Brook, either.

I like Pikiell a lot, but this notion that he is somehow a John Wooden-Dean Smith combination who is guaranteed to lead us to 20-win seasons and Big Ten championships is a little crazy. He's a damn good coach and I'm very optimistic, but come on.

Boro - I agree with most of what you are saying but I don't think any Rutgers fan thinks anything is guaranteed (other than losing seasons). Any glimmer of success is bound to make many of us overly hopeful.

Exactly. I like Pikiell also and there isn’t much talent here (and I’m not crazy about Crean) but I’m pretty sure Crean could have taken this team and finished dead last in the B1G the last two years also. He could have put together a bottom of the B1G recruiting class also.

If it wasn’t for the last three games at the garden, there would have been a lot of restless fans...myself included. This team was going backwards until then. Next year could be a small step back since the league and our schedule should be tougher but I’m hopeful we build off the last three games. I think next season will tell us a lot about where this program is headed.

Also last three had healthy Eugene and Williams back. After shaking off a few games of rust for both players.

Fair and valid observations by both of you.

Points awarded to @BoroKnight and @Mr Magoo.

NO! Pike can really coach AND he is a builder. We have the perfect coach to get us where we want to go.

Coach K maybe. MAYBE. Anyone else, take a hike. Pike is R guy they’re gonna build a statue when this is all said and done I have a feeling.... no better guy to represent our program at Rutgers

Crean is John Harbaugh's brother-in-law too.
Everyone knew that Crean was an average
coach but thought with the family ties it
might help the football program, it didn't.
Jim did help with the team chairs at a
basketball game.

Crean is a proven commodity who has actually won before at the high major level. Pikiell is a huge unknown who's never won at the high major level. Safe bet would be to go with Crean.
