With what Schiano was asking for, on the timeline he wanted, would you be willing to sacrifice other sports and projects to have gotten him?

This is what it came down to.

Is football worth cutting the legs out of other sports? Right now we just don't have the money at Rutgers to upgrade everything today.

I'm not flaming or trolling but it a real question. Do you, as an AD, screw over your other programs to push this hire?

I'm not sure if I was an AD I could.

This is basically what @Caliknight has been saying all along.

At the end of the day, this whole thing is a math problem. The school isn't willing to poor tens of millions of dollars of "Rutgers money" into the football program. Our expenses - coaching salaries and infrastructure - have to be paid for out of football-derived revenue as well as conference-derived revenue and donor money.

Math problem. Always has been.

We need the full share of b10 money asap.

If this is what it came down to it was the right call by Hobbs and the BoG.

I was there Saturday. I saw how awful it was. If it was raining it would have reminded me of Temple except we beat Temple.

So gut everything and anything to try to fix football? For how long? What is the timeline to fix football before you fix other sports?

I think it's a much more complicated issue than this board seems to make it.

How would you feel if Greg demanded that Rutgers empty out the Barnabas Performance Center and make it the new Hale Center? (Just suspend the fact that it is on another campus). How would you feel about that?

any proof that everything else is being gutted..why are you and some others spreading that....you do realize a $100 million facility was just produced

It's called investing for the future instead of letting things go to hell and paying much higher costs later of which Rutgers Athletics is good at. Even if it means using leverage to invest in future ROI. In this Conference it's no longer acceptable to say there's no money to invest. If that is the case, then maybe the prior powers should have thought that out before joining this Conference.

No. You don't do that. You play the hand you are dealt. Greg tried to up the ante, and he lost. We move on to the next candidate. He is not the only person capable of getting RU football back to bowls, which means winning against:
2020- 6 of: Monmouth, Syracuse, Temple, Illinois, Purdue, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State
2021- 6 of Temple, Syracuse, Delaware, Maryland, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern and Michigan State
2022- BC, Temple, Nebraska, Minnesota (PJ will leave), Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Unnamed opponent

any proof that everything else is being gutted..why are you and some others spreading that....you do realize a $100 million facility was just produced
Nothing is being gutted now but to accomplish what schiano wanted on his specific timeline money was going to have to be diverted from other projects and places.

I mean we also eliminated teams like crew recently. There is an example of us not having enough money to properly fund our athletics.

What would other sports be sacrificing? We built a $100M APC for basketball, wrestling, and gymnastics. We’re building a $65M Rodkin facility which soccer and lacrosse will be moving into.

our big ten peers have skated right by us with state of the art football facilities, while Hale center is now ancient. It’ll be 32 years old, and lacks footprint and scope. It would be unwise not to invest in The one sport that could be the cash cow for the university.

Rutgers is going to upgrade all of that. We just can't afford it on schianos desired timeline

All of our sports facilities were incredibly outdated.

Under schiano money was diverted from many other sports.

I think it's a shame we are missing multiple varsity sports. I think it's a shame we have never had some.

No. Raise the needed funds for football. Fundraising is the AD's primary job. If Hobbs doesn't want to raise the needed funds and doesn't care that he's alienating donors and loyal fans, he's got to go.

Crew ? Really ?
How much did we save by dispensing with the rowboats ?

no its not, we offer a lot of sports, you sound like you would be happier in the Patriot League so we can fund 30 sports

except these schmucks don’t take into account the money/resources/grants/funding/publications they get from being in the Big Ten....whole school is run by morons...

Baseball and softball need better facilities. Lacrosse needs better facilities. Soccer could use an upgrade beyond what is coming.

B10 is a lot beyond football. It is a massive research and education program also.

We also do well in other sports. And have been heavily upgrading other sports.
Yes,and football drives the B1G business bus.

At some point, when academics cries about spending for football, we can get kicked out of conference and they can LOSE out on b1G research grants too. Cutting off our nose ...

Absolutely.

This is a crossroad for RU athletics. Either you're in or just drop down another conference or even division and just live with it.

michigan, michigan st, ohio state, Penn state

I believe a few have the same as RU

you argument is BS, RU is right within the middle of sports offered
My argument is my opinion. I believe we should have a full compliment of sports and not sacrifice any.

I want Rutgers football to be extremely successful but I also want all Rutgers sports to be successful.
