Serious Rule Changes Coming to International Lacrosse

I can't imagine that these don't trickle down on some or all levels. Lacrosse will be an Olympic sport very shortly (by Olympic standards- big thanks to RU's Coach Tom Hayes) and these rules changes were needed to do so.

Monumental shifts. To name a few:

1) No long sticks
2) Goalie gets the ball after being scored on (can they implement this in college right now, lol?
3) 45 Second Shot Clock
4) The last team to touch the ball before it goes out of bounds will turn it over to the other team. That means after a shot, if you miss, the other team gets it.

This game is going to be crazy fast with a ton of scoring.

The current way this is handled is dumb IMO.

Maybe this will bring more fans to the game (including me)

I like them all except for no long sticks. I can see limiting them to close D, but guys with the speed and skill of elite world class attackman they are going to absolutely roast virtually any defenseman with a short stick.

Needless to say, scoring will be crazy- easily in the 20 and into the 30's imo.

Who needs the Olympics? That's a different sport, especially no long sticks. Typical score with top players will be 42-39.

I'm definitely excited to see the sport in the Olympics. That means the game is spreading.

There will definitely be some incredible plays in a game like this. The other thing is they are going to have to make the rosters much bigger. International rosters are now capped at 23 I think.

I don't care what kind of shape you are in, 23 guys will die out there playing what is essentially fast breaks the whole game.

I like all the changes except for long sticks.

How about knocking the shaft down to 5 feet max and creating a hybrid?

It may also make the defensemen more versatile in transition.

I like it a lot. All of the other things have made watching RU losses so frustrating !! That would at least make me feel like we have a chance

I have t heard anything close to that and I’ve talked to peope directly involved.

So no face off after a score, just at the start of a quarter?

And those changes (less people, maybe a smaller field) must be changes too as that is what I heard quite some time ago (years) when Coach Hayes made the initial push to get it back.

...But I find it hard to believe that lacrosse is going to be a permanent Olympic sport. I could see it as a temporary one, based on the host nation’s choice of temporary ones any given games, for sure.
