Seven of next season's starters on defense could be transfers ?

Our defensive transfers better work out, otherwise we’re screwed. If they’re can at least be average on the DL, we should be in good shape.

D will be the key to 2025. They cost us numerous games in 2024. Haven’t experienced that scenario in many years under Schiano. Having Mo and Djabome healthy and playing at a high level ALL year at LB is imperative. Like the DL transfers. At least 3 transfers will be starting in the Secondary ( Elad, Henderson, and Cam Miller) . We need to be strong and healthy in ‘25.

If last years guys stay healthy the whole season, things might have been different.🤷‍♂️

But injuries are part of the game.

That's gotta be a first.
Some of them do look like pretty good prospects.

Fwiw, Our Lads agrees with your thoughts.

On the far right, they have Kyle going 3rd - 4th Round, Miller and Beam 5th - 6th, Lewis, Powell, Loyal, and Dixon 7th - Priority FA. I guess they're not very sold on Pierce.

I think Indiana had almost the entire D being transfers in 2024 and it worked out pretty well for them.
This is now the template for success for a program like Rutgers . Building a program with 4 and 5 year guys is getting harder to do. Better to go get some talent in the portal than retain crappy players , which Schiano has done. Thats a recipe for at tops 7 wins and trips to bowls like the Pinstink . Schiano knows this now

This board doesn’t like the portal and the new age of this professional sport.

We do not have the diehards needed to compete with those schools who have the diehards and the will to help the team get better players. It takes money in 2024 25 and beyond.

Exactly which fans like the portal ?

Whats wrong wit transfers?

Are you saying you'd prefer we go into next season without these transfers as starters?
Just take a huge stepback and play the kids already on the roster?
No. I'm saying I question how many fans like the portal...as it currently exists of course.

You can't like upgrading our QB from Wimsst to AK or reloading the defense with potentially 7 defensive starters next year without also liking transfer players.

I mean unless the person is a hypocrite.
"I hate transfers. Unless the transfers are coming here to improve my team. I hate good players from my team leaving. But I like bad players leaving my team. Especially when those bad players leaving makes make room for good players from other teams to improve my team."

(Also, I think you mean "transfers". The "portal" is just a database.)

Be careful speaking the truth around here

No. I think there have been transfers as far back as I can remember in college sports. This whole portal thing is what irritates most college football fans I know. I think it's principally the fact that guys don't have to sit out a year anymore.
And that they can now be bought.

The “portal” is literally a database.

“Guys don’t have to sit out a year anymore” has nothing to do with the “portal”.

I agree that a most significant change is the one year rule being removed.
But that is a separate thing from the “portal”.
Players can be forced to sit out and still have the transfer portal.

The “transfer portal” is an efficiency improvement to provide transparency about who is looking to transfer. That’s it.
Any other rules around transfers are separate.

It’s okay. A lot of people conflate the various items around transfers.

“The rich get richer and the poor get poorer”.
I don’t think so in college football as opposed to real life which is obvious. I think things are getting more competitive thanks to the portal and NIL. Instead of 5 or 6 teams competing for a NC, there maybe 10-12 teams. It was so refreshing not seeing Alabama, Georgia and Clemson not dominating the playoff this year.

Defense will have some depth this year. I think the depth with roster is the best GS has had. The transfers are good, the guys coming back from injury will help and the rest of the players have another year of experience.
Smith will need to get the coaches aligned with the defense GS wants.

I liked the old Al better. The one who had us winning the national championship every year.

This new model is a bore.

How could anyone project the 2025 season with no knowledge that Athan would remain healthy for the season ??

While I'd like to hit on both edge rushers, we've seen enough to know that Thompson and Walker are capable of contributing as well. I am excited to see what all 4 can do next year, especially with a healthy Toure on the field too.
I wouldn't be surprised if one of the four DE recruits in the 2025 class contributes as a freshman.
Canaan Edwards, Robbie Johnson jr., Raedyn Bruens, and Miron Gurman.

Can’t say I agree with your first sentence. We lost 8 starters on Defense due to graduation. The Portal has helped tremendously on D….especially on the DL and Secondary. Can’t our depth is better however.

When I said "contributes" I was thinking of occasionally providing a pass rush. I miss a pass rush. Pressuring the quarterback is a good thing. I remember when we used to do that.
