Remeber this name, Shane Van Ness, the son of former RU wrestling great Rodney Van Ness who won over 100 matches while wrestling for the Scarlet Knights in the 90's. Rodney coaches for Somerville High, his alma mater and his son Shane is an 8th grader at St Ann's in Raritan which does not have a wrestling team. Rod takes him all over the country to wrestle on weekends and tourney and Shane won out in Fargo at 120 pounds without having a point scored upon him. He is going to Blair next year as a freshman so hopefully after he wins a few national prep titles he will give RU a look about coming here so we can see him wrestle. Remember these predictions 4 years from now.

WNG - love the RU connection.

Per Intermat, Travis Mastrogiavanni is the 6th ranked middle schooler in the country and will also be a freshman at Blair. HIs brother stepped in to win the Prep Nationals when Blair's starter got hurt. Wonder if Van Ness can make the first team.

Sounds good. How has he done at kids states?
Speaking of Blair any info on Merola?

2016 - Intermediate 105 - 1st.
2015 - Junior 91 - 2nd.
2014 - Junior 85 - 6th.

Hoping Robinson is the kid that cracks the Blair code for RU. If he is we can go from a perennial Top 10 team in duals/Top 20 in Tourney to competing in the Top 5 in duals and Top 10 in the tourney.

Wng: so if your prediction is for Van Ness to give RU a serious look, you will be 100% right b/c that's not saying much. Of course he'll give us a look - that's his dad's alma mater, and his state university. If you are going to make a prediction, you gotta say he'll come to RU for wrestling.

He can win 10 national prep titles, I would only care if he came to RU.

He was also a Super 32 MS champ in 2016 & really dominated this season. I thought I heard that he was held back a year so he would have been a freshman in HS this season. I sure hope he comes here, if he wins some prep or HS state titles.

Oh, btw, for everyone, it's Shayne with a y.

Van Ness only lost to Travis Mastrogiovanni 4-2 at the 2016 VAC National Duals.

If I could predict 4 years from now I would not be on this Board but in Las Vegas getting very rich. OK he will come here in 4 years and be a 3 time AA!

I know what you mean, but that earlier prediction of him giving us the look is pretty weak.

Shayne has been in the room so he knows what we are about. He and dad have been to our matches so they know what wrestling in front of our fans is like. That being said, if he accomplishes what I think he will accomplish at Blair, all of the giants of college wrestling will have him on visits and throwing bouquets at him. Then all bets are off.

He will have the power five after him for sure. I'm sure we will have a chance because of Rod so hopefully he does come here. That kid is a special one.

Van Ness has won everything he has entered. I came down in the elevator with Merola at the NCAAs Rutgers social so hopefully he enjoyed himself.

Merola will be a good role model for him,hes a hard worker, he jumps right into freestle at the end of the season. Would love to see Merola here, actually would like to see a bunch of the middle school Scorpion national team here. Merola, both Raimos, Gerard Angelo, Mainero, Castellano, Grellos here, and if he didnt go off thr tracks Kareem Askew prob best of the group.

Bill is there any relationship between RU and Buxton? The Blair kids and most of Delbartons kids go to Buxtons club
