kudos to Shaq. Who would have thought down the stretch against an athletic 5 he'd be the defensive substiution guy.

Whenever the team needs a lift it always seems to be Mike Williams making the play.
Again tonight when we were down and appeared out he gets the offensive rebound and the three point play.

That could have been a turning point of the game... it certainly kept RU in the game. It seemed that he came out of nowhere to grab that board and score the basket.

I will argue that Mike Williams may just be the hardest working, and one of the toughest, college basketball player in the USA ... he does not always hit the clutch shot or FT, but has anyone seen any player work harder?

The last RU player this hard working and tough that I remember was Kelvin Troy ... that goes back a LONG way. MAYBE Rashod Kent.

Mike is my favorite Knight -- incredible motor and effort. And, Shaq is showing great improvement and should be an upgrade to fifth-year senior Getty's by the middle of next year (Shaq's Jr. year).

8 rebounds from a Guard .. Even Michigan coach mentioned him by name in his post game interview and praised him (and Pike, and the RAC atmosphere)

Our team plays with much effort no doubt but Mike is our toughest kid by far..and his toughness is consistent. If everybody started the game with that same toughness, we had a great chance to win this game. As coach indicated, we lost this game out of the gates. Being consistently tough is still a challenge for our improving team.

Agree Mike brings max effort every game. I was pleasantly surprised with Shaq. He made two very good defensive plays, one inside and one on the perimeter. These plays earned him his minutes.

However I was really surprised that coach did not give Sa any run in the second half. In the first half when he was in we made a run to cut it to 2. Then he came out and never got back in. CJ could not guard outside and was a liability defensively last night. I felt Sa should have gotten some of CJs minutes in the second half. Sa is more mobile defensively then CJ.

Mike needs to play 35 minutes a night

I thought that as well, but not sure he could go as hard as he does for 35 minutes . Thats specifically why they have been bringing Mike off the bench for much of the season. Either way he has the most heart, so its hard not to have him out there as much as possible , plus he's our best 3pt shooter.

Williams is a player. He might have a shot at playing pro ball outside the US. Longshot for the NBA unless he develops a consistent jumper.

Joel Salvi too, but he didn't play the minutes.

Why we need Geo in here FAST ... another guy that can come in and give Mike and Corey a rest so they can be at max strength all game, but so we still have a second long shooting threat on court if say Nigel is also in. Freeman seems to be getting his 3 down also.

Shaq is another major off season with a big S&C year from being a legit 7 and 7 guy in 24 mpg.
Maybe, but this season he has made 16 total FGs, and shot 3 of 14 from the line. Unless he develops some kind of offensive game, and learns to make an occasional free throw, I don't expect those numbers to change much. But I sure hope they do.

He needs the continue to get better in the off season, but unless we bring in someone else, his minutes are going to increase next year.

I thought about this a bit during the game, too. He dropped 50 pounds coming into this year... so a lot of his S&C was probably spent just getting weight off and getting back into playing condition. Hopefully another year can get him more involved in the offense and give him some better body control.

Doorson is also scheduled to have another foot surgery after the season so I'd temper any expectations regarding offseason improvements in his game.

Joel Salvi too, but he didn't play the minutes.

I mentioned that last night while watching the game. To me, Salvi was the poster child of someone who gave 250% every time he was on the floor. Mike has worked his way into that category too.

Williams has turned into a nice player. He needed either time to develop or be coached up. Or both.
I expected Shaq to really improve next year. I think he can be a serviceable BIG player.

Wherever Mike Williams goes, I hope he makes as much money as possible. I think he can play overseas.

He would need to. Like others have mentioned, another foot surgery. I think Pikiell might search for another grad school transfer center.

I think Shaq improved the most of any player on the team. He is now an intense defender and I agree that another off season of conditioning with the body he has now is going to be great for him. I also think he can develop a post game like Gettys. He does need to make the FTs though like everyone else on this team.

I love Mike Williams, and I feel like 75% of my post for the past 2 years have been about him. For a guy that came in here and expected to shoot lights out, he has turned out to be heart of the team. When he struggled early with his shot, he lost confidence quickly. A lot of kids would have never recovered. Mike worked on his d, and through effort and persistence, he has turned into a threat. With defensive intensity now he is getting easier scores. That only makes his confidence rise....and now he is hitting more open 3's. Just great to see. It is so much easier to be a coach when you have guys like Mike on the team that give 100% all of the time.

Foot surgeries can be tricky, especially for big men. I hope all goes well.

And Salvi developed a 3 point shot during his final year- a nice surprise.

If we were winning more games, we'd easily be able to look back at a few plays by Mike as the difference between winning and losing. We're just not making the clutch plays on offense to cash in on Mike's hard nosed plays.
