SHU fans

I don't even read their board anymore. I still consider them a rival, but the rivalry isn't what it was while were in the BE. We don't play 2X each year and we don't compete for the same recruits very often. Ignore them.

not sure what to be upset about. They are mostly praising Rutgers.

Personally, I'd love for SHU and Rutgers to be great teams consistently. Throw in St. Johns. If kids stayed home at these 3 schools, we would all benefit. And theres plenty of talent to divide between the 3 of us. Put NYC back on the college hoops map. Schedule OOC games with SHU and St. Johns consistently.

Eh, for decades now our program earned the right for them to look down on us. Fortunately, those days are rapidly ending.

huh--they would root for isis over RU???-- try to do more selective reading

I only read the first half dozen or so posts but they seem very complimentary of Rutgers and how its season is going. Perhaps another thread illustrates why the OP thinks they are scum?

You should really peruse the whole thing.

More than a few of their posters are basketball versions of Penn State football fans.

I haven't been over to that board in years and years. Ever since one the putrid scum that (used to) post there threatened to harm my family if I "didn't get his name out my mouth". Just wasn't worth it.

there's enough excitement and news over here to keep us all busy. why waste and spend time on others message boards ? never understood why anyone cared so much about what random message board posters are saying about your team (not even you personally). Unless its your mission to defend RU in all arenas of the world.

The part where they said they'd rather see isis win than Rutgers win? That guy deserves a solid punch to the throat IMO

Only a true scumbag would say something like that or like the comment @cernjSHU @donnie_baseball @BabyBlue @Potbelly407 @HallX2 @SHUisNJsTeam

Meh, I never take any comment like that seriously. That's the kind of thing that if said among friends in a bar everyone laughs & moves on.

I can't imagine any American who loves his/her country would really want ISIS to win anything other than maybe a self immolation contest with the Taliban. Personally I'd root for that contest to go into overtime and be ruled a draw due to all participants on both sides dying.

Who cares? We beat our true hoops rival last night.

Seton Hall is just another non conference opponent.

Let it go
Come on BK. Penn st is not our true hoops rival. Seton hall is. Or at the very least they are not just “another OOC” program. It’s a jersey battle and we have and will fight for recruits over them.

Don't be so sensitive...you'll enjoy life more.

Bottom line is that Rutgers is doing well and that is all that should matter. I'm sure if we had a thread on Seton Hall basketball, some less than complimentary things would be said about that school and the people who support it. In the grand scheme of things, that thread is meaningless.

We fight for recruits with lots of teams (and if we didn't, then our fans would complain that no one else offered).

Seton Hall is local, so it is easy for fans of both teams to get to the game. And because they are local, a lot of fans of one school know fans of other the other school.

Rutgers has a much larger alumni base than Seton Hall, so Seton Hall alumni are more likely to know Rutgers alumni, than the other way around. But since the Seton Hall basketball program has been better than the Rutgers basketball program, and basketball is more important to the student experience at SH than at Rutgers, alumni at SH are more likely to be basketball fans. I think the factors of basketball being more important to SH alumni and SH alumni more likely to know Rutgers alumni combine to make the game more important to SH alumni.

I also think there is a desire by the administrations of both schools and local media to pump up the Rutgers-SH game to sell tickets, ads, newspapers, and clicks.

But in terms of game importance, fan anxiety, and excitement, the Penn State game was far better than the SH game.

You don't think winning games that count for conference standing are more important than the OOCs?

When SHU was in the Big East with us, I completely agree that they were our most important rival. Just don't feel like it matters as much anymore.

Maybe that's just me...but I wanted a win last night way more than against SHU, because in the big picture, it helps more now to be better than Penn State.

I think we can all agree they are both games that excite the fans and mean something a little bit more for the year. We hate both shades of blue. Both are rivalries and thats great for RU.

1 guy said that. Did you read what 1 guy from here said in the post SHU thread ?

Frankly reading just part if that thread and what has been said over here I've never seen such mutual respect overall in my 43 years.

General comment. Bottom line beating both shu and psu is AWESONE BABY! lets keep in mind we play them late again light last year. That one could be even bigger game. At their place.

wrong ----not one guy, read the likes --why make excuses for the haters? BucBloc, BabyBlue, donnie_baseball and 3 others like this thought and now three pages about our win, many belittling RU -- we know not all are haters but excusing the haters is BS

I just read the first page or good part if it and only saw one crazy post ..the Isis one. And frankly I just ignore moronic comments like that.
All fan bases have their doozies. And I'm just love that we kicked their butts and made some of them go off the rails.
Let em yak.

And remember, this is how they respond to good news. Us winning helps them out quite a bit as well. They are still fighting for the tourney

LOL - I would root for ISIS vs Rutgers

Many good fans over there, yes we all have our zealots and ones that take it a bit too far. But still good rivalry with them.

PSU was the more important game, and will be a more important game going forward. However, in terms of rivalry for those of us that were in school in the Big East days, SHU is the the rivalry game (although a much less important game now).

Does PSU know that RU is their true "hoops rival"? Guess it depends on the definition of rival.

38-30 W/L edge to them since 1950.
Head-To-Head is 3rd most played opponent for both teams. (WVU is top 2 for both of us with Pitt for them and Princeton for us occupying the other slots.)

Those factors considered I'd say yeah, we're rivals regardless of what their hyper arrogance might admit to.

But kicking the sh*t out of Shoe will always be special considering our proximity and the fact you are our #5 most played opponent (your #8) and you only have a 10 game edge at 35-25 W/L since 1950 (bet you thought it was way more).

Many of the earlier posts were complimentary but then the oh-so-familiar names began the oh-so-familiar story. Old timers here will remember them. Donnie Baseball. Joe Pepitone2012 who used to be plain old Joe Pepitone. HallBall02. Vegaspj who still comes on this board on occasion to stir things up--like he did about Peter Kiss. Piratz. SHUisNJ'sTeam. Been a while since the BE Boards days when RU and SHU posters would raid each other's boards to flame. And others. They need practice; their words lack the old meanness; and nobody used the term, Little Red Schoolhouse. Keep them bitter.

Are you implying Seton Hall fans consider Rutgers their biggest rival over every Big East program.

As far as PSU being RU's biggest rival, combining football and being in the B1G,
For some RU fans , conference ties make PSU a far bigger rival than Seton Hall.

The Hall , though in the same State, is just an OOC opponent and a lesser opponent, when it comes to a rivalry, than a conference foe like Penn St.
Add the B1G conference football connection and you'll find even more RU fans putting Seton Hall in a secondary rivalry position.

From what I can take from your message, you're worried about Seton Hall not being Rutgers main rival in the eyes of Rutgers fans , because you have Rutgers as your Hall's main rival.

Since we have no instate football rivals, I like having one is basketball.
The fact that SHU is usually a good program makes RU try that much harder to be #1 in the state.
But, PSU has always been the team to "hate" and now we are in the same conference to boot.
The fact that SHU fans are happy their loss to us is Q1, says a lot.

I have to disagree here. Most RU alums have shu employees working for them and have to listen to their hoops boasts and put downs all year long. At least this year I can be a little sympathetic with salary and bonus decisions.

SHU fans are fine. Despite some idiots, mostly a good bunch, some even root for RU football. Gotta disagree with BK a little, while PSU is way more important, still get a bigger kick beating the SHU. We are in the same State, bragging rights, fighting for recruits, and many of us in North Jersey have to work with the wee Pirate people.

And you can always lay them off... I kid, I kid.
